Key Verse: 1 Chronicles 7:2

“They were valiant men of might in their generations.”

Five times in today’s reading we are reminded of the number of those who were, as the last verse of chapter 7 says, “fit for battle.” They were also called “choice men.” We are coming up to Father’s Day shortly. In today’s battles, we need many more “choice men” who are “fit for battle.” Perhaps the key word here is “valiant.” According to the dictionary, valiant means, “boldly courageous, brave, or heroic.” Our reading numbers over 150,000 such men. In church this Sunday here in Canada, there will be many times more men than that. Let us rise up as “valiant” men of God. The women and children can pray for us that we will be men of character, fighting, not with human weapons, but with the “Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God” (Ephesians 6:17).

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I ask for the working of Your Spirit in me so that I may be “valiant” for You. Keep me faithful in the discipline of prayer and the reading of Your Word, so that as I exercise and practise with that weapon, Your Word You’ve given me, I may be “fit for battle.” May I today rise up, getting out of the trench and into the face of the enemy, where, by Your might, I will win in the battle of life. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

One of the names mentioned in today’s reading is Joshua, the son of Nun. What a valiant man! Joshua is the Hebrew equivalent of “Jesus.” Joshua met the “Commander of the army of the Lord.” This was likely an appearance of Jesus prior to His birth in Bethlehem (see Joshua 5:13-15). The spiritual song “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho” comes to my mind. I’m singing it quietly so as not to wake up Norma-Jean.

As a boy I would read daily the comic strips in the newspaper. There was a character called “Prince Valiant.” He was a knight of great courage and of sterling character. I remember thinking that when I grow up I want to be “valiant.” Here I am at almost 81 and I still want to be “valiant” (click here for a look at that comic strip).

Yours for becoming a person of valour,

David

  1. Father God, thank You for being faithful to us no matter what. Help us do what is right and good, productive and helpful today. In Jesus’s name, amen

  2. What a reading today! Can you imagine someone naming their sons, “Shuppin and Huppin”? I like the name following also, “Hushim” – that one sounds good to me!! Praise God – they were valiant men, boldly courageous, and, brave. May we all develop those qualities, in Jesus Name. (the comic strip mentioned did not come through for me). Keep well today (S Ontario is having a heatwave. Blessings all.

  3. Many times I want to post a comment but words fail me but often a message from a poem will jump to mind and this time I will post that simple message.I’m still reading 100 Words everyday and thankful for it (Since Sept 2013).Bruce Wilkinson said in the interview posted a few days ago that God blesses us so that we may bless others.I have his book The Prayer of Jabez beside my bed. Some of you are still on my prayer list.(Does anyone else have a prayer list where they forget where some of the names came from?)May God bless
    To Freely Give

May you praise God before you rise
And may you know His eternal love,
For it is Love that never dies,
    Free with forgiveness from above,
So with forgiveness you were bought
And with forgiveness you must live,
    For then angels see what they have sought;
One who freely takes to freely give.

  4. Reminded of God’s love and truth and ever grateful for today. Holding all in prayer and thankful for prayers received. So dear to have the Lord with us and ever blessed by the Sword of the Spirit in God’s Word. His peace and joy be with you, fellow saints in the Lord. Amen.

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 ESV

This is not the song I wanted to post, today, but I could not find the one playing in my head. However, I suppose this was meant to be. So powerful.

      • I enjoyed this song so very much, the words were very meaningful. I believed you were meant to post this today
As Doreen mentioned it is VERY hot today, telling myself to keep hydrated. I don’t drink enough water and I know I should.
Blessings and prayers, the Lord knows who need help today.

  5. Beverlee thanks for that song. It’s one of my favourites and I haven’t heard it for awhile.
Enjoying everyone’s comments today. God bless.

  6. I have a “Prayer Map of Canada” that has a daily focus that i use during my prayer time. For the 7th day of the month the focus is:
    1. Pray that the Lord will be close to the brokenhearted in our society and be their help. (Psalm 34:18, Psalm 145: 14-16)
    2. Pray for the staff and volunteers that serve in local churches in your city or community , that the Lord would anoint them for effective service. (Romans 12: 4-8, Colossians 3:17)
