The Valley of Elah (1 Samuel 17:2), where David picked up five smooth stones from the brook, one of which he used in his sling to kill Goliath.

Key Verse: 1 Samuel 17:45

Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”

David knew for sure that the God of Israel was much bigger than any giant the Philistines could produce. David’s past experiences gave him great confidence that God would enable him to defeat Goliath. All of us can think of times when we’ve seen God doing great things in our own lives, or we’ve heard of God doing great things in the lives of others. Soon we’ll celebrate the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus, the greatest victory in human history. The historical fact of Jesus’ resurrection happened in the past, and it is also a present reality. He is risen!!! David was the champion of Israel. Jesus is the Champion for all time and for every challenge. The Apostle Paul writes of “the seed of David” (2 Timothy 2:8-13). Jesus said, “Because I live, you shall live also” (to read it in context see John 14:11-21). With our faith in Jesus, we too can be champions. Jesus assures us that the person who believes in Him will win the battles. In Him we are bigger than any challenge!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, You have defeated the last human enemy, death! Therefore, I have complete confidence that with You living in me I can win over every giant that I face. I pray for boldness to take that which I know You’ve done in the past, apply that knowledge to the present, and move forward into future battles with the secure knowledge of Your Presence. In Your strong Name I pray, Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

When God gave us Canada’s first professionally equipped Christian television production studio back in 1977, I could not stand to see God’s resources sitting empty for much of the day after we went live to air with the daily 100 Huntley Street telecast. Therefore, we began producing telecasts in many languages other than English. We also did shows for children and teens. Nite Lite, an open-line show which ran live 5 nights a week from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m., was what one of our hosts, Rev. Ken Campbell, called “the best fishing hole in Canada.” In one staff Chapel service in the early 1990’s, I shared that the challenge of the middle-of-the-night ministry needed a champion who would assume full responsibility for its future. Later that day, Jim Cantelon, who had been one of my co-hosts on 100 Huntley Street after returning from Jerusalem where he established a great Christian congregation, approached me with these words: “David, I want to be that champion for the middle of the night.” He covered not only Canada but the U.S.A. as well for many years. I’m excited to rise every morning to champion the ministry of this blog!

Yours, praying Jesus’ prayer request: “Pray the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers [champions] into the harvest field” (Matthew 9:38, Luke 10:2),

David

P.S. In the God Rocks children’s animated TV series produced by a champion, Bruce Stacey, the actor Mickey Rooney, certainly not a “giant” in stature, is the voice of “Bullseye”…the little rock that bopped Goliath. It’s a creative re-telling of today’s reading. Below is a poster from that episode (signed by Mickey). The episode is called “Splat Ball Square Off” and here’s a link to a trailer for it. Some of the God Rocks “Bible Toons” are archived online HERE. You might want to share them with the children for whom you can be a champion for Christ.

  1. So enjoyed today’s scripture reading of David and Goliath, which teaches the greatest lesson of overcoming the impossible with utmost courage and faith in our God. It is uplifting as we all face our burdens. I was diagnosed yesterday with Myositis Autoimmune Disorder, which is very rare and overlaps with the spinal issues I deal with. God is uncovering things for my doctors and I am ever grateful. I will not be afraid but have trust in My God to help me through. Thank you saints for your prayers. Encouraging more of you following daily on 100Words.ca to post more regularly. His blessings upon you fellow saints in the Lord. Amen.

“Yet even now,” declares the LORD, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments.” Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and he relents over disaster. Joel 2:12-12 ESV

    • P.S. Thanks Reynold for the photo of the Bible with 5 stones in the Valley of Elah. It is very meaningful for today’s scripture reading and symbolic of courage.

  2. I just read yesterday and super appreciated the wisdom, from Donna. Thank you.
It is often difficult to not tell The Lord how we expect HIM to respond, in various situations.
Each of us so desires to pray continually and be aware of His Leading and Guiding.
A very dear friend of mine said that she and her husband were not praying for healing of her husband’s 4th Stage Cancer, but that GOD be glorified whether HE chooses to heal or doesn’t heal; that His Will be done.
My friend said, (and this may be of help to the many who are going through health issues):
“We do not want to make Hezekiah’s mistake; he turned his face to the wall and cried for an extension of his life after Isaiah told him that his sickness was going to end in death. God agreed and lengthened his life, but shortly thereafter he displayed all of his wealth to the Babylonian ambassadors who had come to inquire after his health.
What a monumental mistake! What a missed opportunity to introduce them to the true God.”

Prayers that each Blogger know that we are all important in The Body.

    Missing Rob’s Prayers.
Thankful that William posts his heart-felt poetry.
Sorry to Beverlee K re. Recent diagnosis but glad Dr able to confirm reason for back problems and probable muscle fatigue, so proper treatment can ensue.

May HIS Peace ‘like a river’ flow over and through all.

  3. Dear Beverlee,
Very sorry to hear your doctors diagnosis.

The scripture that came to my mind was Joshuan1:9
Have I not commanded you? Be Strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Beverly, I listen to Keith Moore each day on the Victory Channel at 10 a.m.
His program is called Faith School. http://Www.faithschool.org. Great teaching on Healing.
Our faith grows the more we hear His Word.
Praying that The Great Physician bring complete healing to your physical needs Beverlee. I can see bynyour postings you have a strong faith in Jesus.

  4. Love the life of David’s sincerity. Even though he had extreme failures later in life, he repented sincerely and God called him a man after His Own ❤️ Heart. My closest friend died yesterday. I had a really bad day but I’m feeling some better today (she’s with the Lord now). Life is full of challenges .Edna was going to drive me to Opthamology appointment (drops in eyes prevents me driving) and now she has passed. I’m praying for you Beverlee that Father God will give wisdom, skill, and availability, for your care. Blessings on you all today folks. Amen

  5. Very inspiring and encouraging blog today by David and you bloggers. Thank you. I had to go get my 5 smooth stones that I got from the brook in the Valley of Elah and put them on my Bible like Reynold did to help face challenges. Sorry to hear of your doctor’s diagnosis Beverlee and will pray for you that you will now get the right treatment. Condolences for the loss of your best friend Doreen. May the Lord give you a new one in future. God bless each of you as God sees the true heart of everyone.

  6. Beverlee, I am so sorry that you have this painful condition. Lord, thank you that Beverlee has a diagnosis for her condition. Please help her successfully deal with the pain. In Jesus name, Amen!

  7. Thank you to all the saints for your prayers. The recent diagnosis is not a solution for my back problems, it is in addition to the severe spinal stenosis and two pinched nerves in my spine. It is an autoimmune disorder on top of the need for another back surgery, which I continue to wait for. I realize others are dealing with much more than I and we all need prayer. But thank you for keeping me in yours. You are all wonderful and God bless each and every one.

  8. Amen to prayers above. Amen to all comments.
Beverlee my heart goes out to you. I feel like I know you. Though we have never met. I pray for you every day. FYI. Just wanted you to know.
May God bless you all today in answering your prayers.
