Key Verses: Psalm 8:1a (and 8:9)

O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth.”

The shepherd king, David, sang the words of Psalm 7 “to the Lord.” Imagine singing of persecution, tearing apart like a lion, being trampled upon, etc. Somehow when we sing in our pain, it makes it more bearable, particularly when we also sing, “My defence is of God,” Who is, “angry with the wicked every day” (Psalm 7:10-11). When in trouble, sing of God’s excellence. One of the benefits of an early morning start to our devotions is the time alone with God. There’s no rush. The telephone is not ringing. No one is texting you or knocking on the door. Therefore, since we have the time, I recommend that we listen to an excellent singer, Larnell Harris, singing, “How Excellent is Thy Name O Lord” (click here). Larnell has often appeared over the years on 100 Huntley Street, singing of the excellence of the Lord!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

“O LORD MY GOD, IN YOU I PUT MY TRUST!” O Lord, I commit to praying the prayers of David throughout my devotions daily in the Psalms. I thank You that while I pray spontaneously most of the time, I also find that it often helps me focus more intensely when I read prayers directly from Scripture or those prayers written by men and women who love and serve You passionately. I pray Your blessing and provision for all my fellow blog followers! Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

In preparation for partaking in communion at a Sunday service, Anglicans often read together the following powerful prayer, “Lord God, we have sinned against You; we have done evil in Your sight. We are sorry and repent. Have mercy on us according to Your love. Wash away our wrongdoing and cleanse us from our sin. Renew a right spirit within us and restore us to the joy of Your salvation, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.” Let’s make that prayer personal to us today, as an additional “Prayer for Today.”

Yours because of the “excellence” of the Name of the Lord “In all the earth,”

David

  1. Lord God, have mercy on us in this land. We have become so proud, thinking we are better than others and in no need of God. Please help us to humble ourselves and turn back to You. Thank You for all your people here, who seek your ways in all they do. Open the doors for your gospel to go out throughout Canada, and draw many to You today. We ask for your leadership & guidance in Canada, in Jesus’s name, amen

    • Amen,Rob !
      Self Is No Master

This scripture is so very true,
But those who’s yokes are hearts of stone
Hold onto only the darkest view
With no guilt from which to atone.

But we who have thus surrendered,
Have given freely of our souls,
That He shall change the hearts we rendered
To use us for His holy goals.

So shed your ego and then live,
For self is no master to cleave,
Then you will have the freedom to give,
To those without strength to believe.

  2. Amen,Rob.Thinking of Ann now and ‘trusting’ in our Lord to rest His healing hand on her.Amen !
I have just caught up with the blog.Power was restored Tue at 455 PM but they are still working on the highway where I live which was completely washed out and almost washed out in another which would have completely isolated many homes.I was busy thanking God for His protection.I had to jack up one shed and reposition the bricks in one corner and a few mid sized trees were down. It’s amazing the things that weren’t blown about.Just a reminder of the praise we owe Him.God bless
    Praise

Let us praise Him in our day,
Let us praise Him in our sleep,
    Let unceasing praise convey
    The harvest our praises reap.

    Unending love is always ours,
    So unending praise is owed,
Then His word of truth empowers
    From the Spirit He bestowed.

Let only truth bespeak His praise,
Let not hope flee from sight,
Thus, let us dance and voices raise,
To soak in His eternal Light.
