BLESSINGS

Today’s Reading: Deuteronomy 28

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion on the right-hand side).

Looking east toward Masada, the dead remains of a tree and the cracked earth depicts the harshness of this desert area. This picture represents the world without the water of life. We choose “LIFE!” Jesus is the “LIVING WATER!” Jesus said to the woman at the well, “If you only knew the gift God has for you, and who you are speaking to, you would ask Me, and I would give you LIVING WATER!” At least twice in every daily 100 Huntley Street telecast, dry and thirsty souls are invited to come to Jesus and drink of Him. “LIVING WATER” is offered because people who love people give generously and sacrificially to bring JESUS’ LIVING WATER TO WHERE THE PEOPLE ARE!!!

Key Verse: Deuteronomy 28:2

And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God…

In verse one of today’s reading, Moses makes it clear that he does not refer to all the previous rules and regulations he has given the people, but only that which he states “today.” In chapters 26 and 27, he repeats the word “today” four times. These chapters were all one message. In our readings to come, we’ll see why Israel brought blessings and curses upon themselves. There are 68 verses in Deuteronomy 28; only the first 14 have to do with blessings, 54 are about curses. What does that emphasis say to us? Obedience to God brings blessings, and disobedience brings curses. This is the principle of “sowing and reaping.” The Apostle Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, wrote in Galatians 6:7, “Do not be deceived; God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” Let us remember always that every action has a consequence. Blessings “overtake” us, and so do curses. This is one of Moses’ final messages to all Israel. We may want to pay close attention.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Overtake me, Lord God, with Your blessings. Please give me the grace of obedience to these final commands given by Moses. Help me to know the difference between right and wrong and to always do what is right. Lord Jesus, You gave a prayer which made a sinful man right in God’s sight. I pray that prayer now… “God, be merciful to me, a sinner.” Amen! (check out Luke 18:9-14).

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I remember when Rev. Don Osbourne told our staff chapel that while battling a serious illness he had dreamed of a highway with two cars travelling on it. The first car had written on its side the word “understanding.” The second car was marked “peace.” The “peace” car was seen to “overtake” and pass the first. Don realized that God was confirming to him that the peace which comes from God overtakes and surpasses our understanding (see Philippians 4:6-7). God gave peace to Don in the midst of illness and proceeded to heal him shortly thereafter. I have been so very blessed by people God has sent to work with me through the years. I have truly been overtaken by blessings!!!!!

Yours for God’s blessings,

David

  1. Deuteronony 28 was difficult scripture to read/listen to. Woe to anyone in OT times who was disobedient. I believe the same goes for this generation. Death and hell are never wanting to those who do not claim Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour. Call on the Name of Jesus and you shall be saved. To read David’s story of Rev. Don Osbourne’s dream was a blessing. Happy New Year’s Eve, fellow saints in the Lord. Let us welcome 2019 as a year full of God’s blessings, peace, love and joy, for one another.

And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28 NKJV

  2. Have a happy and peaceful New Year all saints!

“Rip Parker is one of my faith heroes. I was privileged to be his pastor in Dallas and to know his story on a personal level.
Rip was a businessman, but his true love was for the homeless of our city. He fed them every day of the week. He was a constant and consistent force for love in their lives.
Speaking to our men’s Bible study at my invitation, he told us, “If one life is changed, that’s 100 percent better than zero.”

  3. A beautiful quote from C.S. Lewis:

“To love you as I should, I must worship God as Creator. When I have learnt to love God better than my earthly dearest, I shall love my earthly dearest better than I do now.”

  4. Happy New Year 2019 to Norma Jean and family and all my fellow bloggers May It Be a happy and healthy and prosperous New Year amen

  5. Happy New Year also to you Norma Jean and all the Mainse family! It’s comforting to see that David focused on the blessings at the eve of this new year rather than the curses but as he said the curses are there 54 verses of them in this chapter. Love those songs Beverlee and William. Praying to see some wonderful things happen in this new year as we dedicate ourselves afresh to Him. Blessings!

  6. Hi Everyone.
Just letting you know that I continue to be with 100words (and you) reading through the Scriptures. Deuteronomy is an amazing book. My big problem is that I want to stop and study more we we read through the Scriptures. One can see that many of our Western Laws have their roots in these books of the Bible. What blessings! What Challenges! What warnings! What promises and provisions! – today, all the precious promises are ours through Jesus Christ our Lord. Ephesians 1:3

We are promised God’s “strength” and “peace” (Psalm 29:11) as we journey into 2019. God’s richest blessings to one and all.

Special New Year Prayer and blessing upon Norma Jean and the Mainse Family.

“O Come, let us adore HIm… Christ, the Lord”
“For He alone is worthy… Christ, the Lord!”
“We’ll give Him all the glory… Christ, the Lord!”

    • GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU, SA,MUEL, HAVE A BLESSED AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR!

That is truly an encourage blessing for Norma-Jean and family!

  7. Dear saints,
I am asking for prayer for a young couple who is having marital problems. Unless the Lord intervenes, their marriage may be over. They have 3 small children. Their names are Scott and Celia.

Wishing everyone a most blessed New Year!

  8. Lord God I pray for a new heart for that young couple, a heart of compassion and understanding; I pray that they stop to hear and listen as they converse with each other not in anger, shouting at each other.
Lord I pray you intervene on their behalf, help them to remember their marriage vows and the love that brought them together.!! I pray this in Your Holy Name Jesus!! Amen and Amen!

  9. Praying for God’s will in Scott and Celia’s marriage. Lord may that couple turn to you and may their marriage become stronger than ever. May their three young children grow up to love and serve you!
