HEAR – SEEK – LIVE

Today’s Reading: Amos 5-6

These ruins are located in the area of ancient Samaria. Jesus said that if people failed to praise God, the rocks would cry out. In a very real sense, these rocks are crying out to us that when people don’t want God in their daily lives, He does not force Himself upon them. They are left to their own resources, and ruin is the inevitable result.

Key Verses: Amos 5:4, 6:14

For thus says the Lord to the house of Israel:

“Seek Me and live…”

“But, behold, I will raise up a nation against you,

O house of Israel,”

Says the Lord God of hosts;

“And they will afflict you from the entrance of Hamath

To the Valley of the Arabah.”

God, in His mercy, so often grants individuals and nations the opportunity to repent, yet again and again that offer of forgiveness and a new beginning is ignored or rejected. Here in chapter five, after God, through Amos, points out Israel’s continuing rejection, He still continues His appeal to His people to repent. Four words in our key verse say it all… “SEEK ME and LIVE!” The word “seek” is in our reading three times. The dictionary says that “SEEK” means, “An attempt to find someone or something…searching…hunting.” Jesus said, “But SEEK first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness!” (Matthew 6:33a). He also urged seeking again in His powerful message on the hillside, “SEEK and you shall find!” (Matthew 7:7). Therefore, we are to SEEK for Him! The fact is…He is looking for us! Jesus said, “The Son of Man has come to SEEK and to save that which was lost.” Let’s read the story that illustrates this (Luke 19:1-10).

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I seek for You! It’s not that You are lost, it’s that I’m often distracted by the pressures, events, and everyday happenings in my life. I pray that the Holy Spirit will shine the light on You every day through my reading of Your Word. Thank You that I know where to find You. You’re right here in Your Word to me as I read! You’re there every time I kneel to pray in a manifestation of Your presence. I’ll find You also at church, because You said, “For where two or three are gathered together in My Name, I am there in the midst of them!” (Matthew 18:20). I ask You to continue to provide me with daily light. In Your Name, Jesus, I pray…Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I’ve just looked for “Orion” (5:8a) on Google. Click here for a look at this tiny part of the cosmos which God has created. I’m so glad that in order to find God, we don’t have to travel a billion miles into space looking for Him. I sought for Him this morning and there He was, so very close to me. He didn’t hide inside the mystery of a religious ceremony. God said that He is near to those who have a broken heart (Psalm 34:18a). I pray often that God will break my heart with those things that break His. He’s right here! The Apostle Paul quoted the prophets Moses, Ezekiel, and Jeremiah to make the point that God dwells in His temples, our bodies (2 Corinthians 6:16b). I don’t have to travel far. I simply begin to read His Word, meditate on His Word, worship Him with my love, and praise Him for Who He is…for Jesus and His suffering and death on the cross for my sins. I experience that sense of love, peace and security which is a manifestation of His presence.

Yours for having the knowledge of His presence, even if I don’t feel His presence. That’s because He promised to be with us!!! (Matthew 28:18-20),

David

  1. Amen to today’s prayer! Yes, we seek You, oh Lord, oh Adonai! We need You, Lord God, now, more than ever! We soak in Your Holy Presence! Be with us God, through every step of this day–as some receive news too shocking to bear and others feel overwhelmed with suffering. But You Lord God, are our rock and our strength–our mounting salvation–and it is to You, that we cling! Wishing all saints a blessed day.

Lift up your heads, you gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Psalm 24:7-8 NIV

    • Thank you so much Beverlee, David’s prayer and yours means a lot to me. Also thank you for that beautiful song with pictures. I was feeling a bit down but now I can face the day.
Blessings to each and every one. Eleanor M.

    • 100 Huntley Street has changed the prayer lines! It is a taped message! This is not good! Very cold and impersonal! Maybe all the people who worked on the prayer line are on holidays, I understand and God bless them BUT I HOPE that real people will begin to answer the prayer lines…In Jesus Name we Pray amen

      • Sah, I haven’t called the prayer line for a while . Could it be that all operators are busy and that is why there is a recorded message? We need to pray for more volunteers.

Praying that you and your daughter will be reconciled.
God bless you and grant you the financial breakthrough that you are in need of.

      • The prayer lines are not blocked; there is no message; they are open 24/7; it is not because they are short volunteers. I just called to check, confirmed with the lovely prayer person who answered and prayed with me for this misinformation to be corrected on the blog. Perhaps you are calling the wrong phone number, or misdialed, Sah:

        24/7 PRAYER: 1-866-273-4444

    • For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.

      Seeking.

A lot of the readings this past month have been about God’s judgment on the nations that forsake Him. I can’t help but think of Canada & our current leaders who seem to be continually forsaking the Biblical values on which our country was founded. Please pray for those who are standing for Truth in our dark and deluded world.

“Pray for us, too, that God will give us many opportunities to speak about his mysterious plan concerning Christ. That is why I am here in chains. Pray that I will proclaim this message as clearly as I should.”
      (Col 4:3-4)
“And pray for me, too. Ask God to give me the right words so I can boldly explain God’s mysterious plan that the Good News is for Jews and Gentiles alike. I am in chains now, still preaching this message as God’s ambassador. So pray that I will keep on speaking boldly for him, as I should.”
      (Eph 6:19-20)

I pray God will help all His people to share – clearly, boldly, unashamedly, honestly, compassionately – the gospel. As Paul said, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” (Rom 1:16)

  2. God, in His infinite Mercy, continues to ” bid us come” to Him, call upon His Name and repent so that we may live. He has every right to be punish us for our disobedience, yet, He continues to direct us back to Himself. He takes no pleasure in punishment. His desire is to hold us and lavish His love upon us!
Oh! What a wonderful, merciful Father! All glory and honour be to His Name, forever!
May He bless each and everyone of you and answer you when you call on His Name!

  3. Thank you Lord that I am lifted up every day with David’s and your posts, friends in the Lord! It is true that there are many things down here on earth to distract us. What a different day it is here with the sun shining and no wind. God bless you saints!

    • 100 Huntley Street has changed the prayer lines. It is now a recorded message! It is very cold and impersonal. Maybe all those that attend the prayer lines have gone a holiday, I pray real people will begin to come back to the prayer lines! I have always enjoyed talking with the prayer partners and so thankful that they would pray for others…..In Jesus Name I Pray they will return….in Jesus Name we pray AMEN

  4. Thank you for the photo of the rocks…the mood the sky presents!!

    David great photo of “Orion”!

God’s word tells us that we did not choose Him; He has chosen us!! Even though His word also tells us to “Seek, and we will find”. Its comforting to know that He is always with us, we are never alone!!! PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME!!

  5. The prayer lines have changed at 100 Huntley Street! It is a recorded voice, very cold and impersonal! Lord forgive us all our sins and please bring back people to answer the prayer lines and pray with us IN JESUS NAME WE PRAY AMEN AMEN AMEN
