WALK ON WATER

Today’s Reading: Matthew 14

A calm settles on the Sea of Galilee, just after a storm.

Key Verse: Matthew 14:31

And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

Peter, the man of faith and doubt, boldness and fear, is one of us. His faith carried him out of the boat, but his doubt immediately brought big problems. Don’t be too hard on Peter. Those still in the boat were safe, but they missed a great experience with Jesus. On the walk back to the boat, I think Jesus held Peter, and Peter surely hung onto Jesus for dear life. Later Peter’s memory was greatly improved by the power of the Holy Spirit. The result?…faith and boldness marked his total life. Are you willing to sink and look like a big fool? Or are you just playing it safe?

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, I know You won’t let me down as I let go of the boat and start walking. Grant me the grace to attempt the humanly impossible. May I not be discouraged by the comments of those still in the boat. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

There are several things that could’ve sunk the ministry of Crossroads. Check out our history. The money was not on hand to do any of these major initiatives (e.g. Pavilions in four World Expositions). In two of the Expos, we were sinking, but Jesus was there to catch us. He had said, as He did to Peter, “Come.” As leader, I had stepped out of the boat, and so did our Board of Directors, as did our fellow team members, and our supporting partners. In Spain alone (Expo ’92), at least 53,000 people registered decisions for Christ. The Archbishop of Seville said weeping, “My people, my people need this message.” Please pray fervently for the Meeting today of the Crossroads Board of Directors. The position of Chief Executive Officer is being decided. The future is in the hands of people who pray and support the ministry financially.

Yours for walking on water,

David

P.S. While I was in hospital, my son Ron helped me to write a letter to the Crossroads ministry supporters. I’m out now staying with my daughter and son-in-law, Bruce and Elaine Stacey. The book Crossroads wants to send you in appreciation for your gift this month is by Billy Graham’s eldest daughter, Anne. I had no idea before reading the book that she wrote it while serving as her husband’s primary care giver, and she often wrote beside her husband’s sick bed. He graduated to Heaven last August (click here to donate and receive your copy of Ann’s book, THE DANIEL PRAYER). This is MUST reading for the serious Christian! You can read the letter I wrote in the hospital by clicking HERE.

  1. We can all benefit from the Peter’s story, as we identify with his dilemma. Here Peter was, just an ordinary average run-of-the-mill fisherman, yet called to a higher purpose. Yet with him even being in the very presence of Jesus, he had times of doubts, fears, weakness and little faith. He wasn’t educated nor was he refined in speech, but when the Holy Spirit moved upon him there was no turning back, he was fully committed to the purpose at hand and not even Satan could stop this great man of faith from his mission.. When we have our own doubts, fears and lack faith for the journey, let us remember to look upon the life and example of this great man and disciple Peter, and be encouraged in God’s grace and faithfulness towards us, that we too might be greatly empowered for the mission that Christ would have us do in our midst.

  2. Dear David,

So sorry to hear about your recent hospital experience and so glad that you are currently with family.

It was very good of Ron to keep this blog going in your absence and I pray for wisdom today for the Board of Directors, as you request.

    Shalom,
    Graham.

  3. Thank you for the encouragement to pray. Please, God, help us (me) not to be lazy or unkind or selfish, but to be more like our Lord Jesus, who gave up His all for others. In Jesus’ name, amen

  4. Jesus walking on water is one of my favourite scriptures. Praying for the Crossroads meeting to elect the new CEO, dear David. Thanks for the link to the Anne Graham Lotz book, and beautiful photo, Reynold–a painting in the making. Wishing all saints a blessed day, in the Lord.

  5. Praying God would fill the board with “the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding” (Col. 1:9) as they select a new leader for Crossroads.

  6. Pastor David having read the letter and heard your heart-felt cry for the Ministry of Crossroads…I join in prayer for Wisdom for the Board of Directors as they meet asking for The Lord’s guidance and direction for this Ministry.

  7. Hi, David, Trusting that the Board of Directors will hear accurately from our Father, for the future of the ministry and the right man to be CEO going forward. If it was me l’d take a look at the Quick Study Family, Rod Hembree and his family. They are as good as it gets!……….just a thought!

  8. Love the Lord’s comforting words, “Be of good cheer; it is I, be not afraid.(14:27). Trust my prayer is retroactive as I also pray for the Lord’s will to be done in choosing the new CEO of 100 Huntley St. That photo today Reynold is spectacular!

  9. Christine I agree with your blog! I think Rod Hembree and HIS familty would be a good choice! Lord hear our prayers! TY Lord for healing David Mainse! Bless his ministry!

  10. God bless you and have a wonderful Father’s day with the family. You are a blessed godly man. We love you in the name of Jesus Christ.
