Today’s Reading: Isaiah 34-36

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion).

This Book of the Lord was well used to the glory of God by my Father, Dr. Roy Lake Mainse. The notes attached are for a sermon entitled, “Time to be fully dressed.” If it is enlarged to the full size of the screen I can read his writing. He believed that we need to “Search from the Book.”

Key Verses: Isaiah 34:16a, 35:10

Search from the book of the Lord, and read:

Not one of these shall fail;

Not one shall lack her mate.

…And the ransomed of the Lord shall return,

And come to Zion with singing,

With everlasting joy on their heads.

They shall obtain joy and gladness,

And sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

Chapter 34 points out the desolation that will come upon Zion (Jerusalem) but the birds and animals will continue as usual. In Genesis chapter one, God created living creatures before He created man. To this day they find a mate and produce after their own kind. When we search the Book of the Lord, we find this to be a fact!

Chapter 35 is a beautiful promise of restoration. The words of our second key verse form a joyous song that we may have sung in the past (I unsuccessfully looked for a Youtube video of the song for us to link to).

Chapter 36 follows this promise with the terrifying threat against Jerusalem by Sennacherib’s mighty army. Sennacherib made two big mistakes. His messengers offended God by their over confidence in their own ability to conquer Jerusalem in spite of any intervention God might make. The Assyrian also overlooked a humble praying man, King Hezekiah. Sennacherib returned home leaving his dead army in the fields outside Jerusalem. In the temple of his god, his own sons murdered him as he worshipped. Click here for a poem by Lord Byron from 1815 that tells the Bible story.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, as I meditate on this story, I’m reminded that “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 9:10a). You are an awesome God! I rejoice in You with singing, and I am silent before Your all-powerful and eternally-wise judgments! Teach me more and more of Your ways, O Lord I pray! In the Name of the greatest Teacher ever, the Lord Jesus Christ, I ask these mercies. Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Yesterday I checked out of the Juravinski Cancer Centre  where I was participating in an experimental treatment. I feel great! However, I’m aware that my physical condition, like my spiritual condition, is not dependant on feelings. I need to rest on fact (the doctor’s report) and Fact (Holy Scripture)!!!

Yours for Truth!!!

David

P.S. I’m already two years past my “Best before” date or my predicted “Expiry date.” God is in control.

  1. Praise and thank God that you feel great Mr. Mainse! I don’t think there is anything wrong with feeling great! A person is able to do things, like go for a walk, enjoy a cup of coffee with family or friends, post a daily blog, appreciate life from a different point of view, pray for friends and family! THIS IS THE DAY THE LORD HAS MADE, LET US REJOICE AND BE GLAD IN IT!

  2. This was sent to my email this morning from Christine Caine

For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does (Psalm 33:4).

I believe we serve a God who doesn’t believe in expiration dates. What we need more than anything else as Christians is to trust that He who promised is faithful.

If God has spoken a promise over your business, calling, ministry or life, then – even if it looks in the natural as if His promise has expired – He will come through on His promises. Remember, He is faithful.

  3. Amen, David. Rest physically and spiritually in the Word. Lord, there is none beside thee to help (2 Chronicles 14:11, RV).

“When nothing whereon to lean remains,
    When strongholds crumble to dust;
When nothing is sure but that God still reigns,
That is just the time to trust.
‘Tis better to walk by faith than sight,
    In this path of yours and mine;
And the pitch-black night, when there’s no outer light
Is the time for faith to shine.”

This past Sunday, at Kingsway Christian Church, the hush of the Holy Spirit fell over the congregation–oh, what an incredible experience–leaving us speechless and in complete reverence. It was the end of our service and worship and we had been singing with utter joy, love and awe for our amazing Saviour. The song we ended with, is perhaps my favourite. I wish love and peace and blessings to all saints, today:

  4. Glad you are feeling so good, David, and good for you for having the courage to participate in the experimental treatment. I googled “Juravinski Cancer Center” and read it is very highly rated. Isaiah 51:11 is similar to Isaiah 35:10 and there is a song for that. If you Google “therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall return” you should find it on YouTube.

  5. I am praying for you David. There is nothing better than a song from scripture to become your ear worm for the day. Therefore the redeemed of the Lord will sing with joy today knowing an everlasting joy shall be upon our head. Bless you my brother.

  6. Yes, we stand in awe of You, the joy of the Lord is our strength and You are faithful. Also the Lord is to be feared as we read how He sent His angel and struck down the entire Assyrian army except for a few survivors including Sennacherib. May the Lord continue to strengthen you David and the Lord bless you as well Norma Jean.

  7. Dear David,

for several months I have not been reading 100 Words. Today, (Jan. 5) I decided to start again and read the word for Jan.3, thinking it was today’s. I am sorry to hear that you have been in hospital but I by the time you read this I hope that you will be home.
What you wrote on Jan. 3 was like a letter directly from heaven to me when I read it. For years I have neglected my own body but overwork, not eating regularly or properly and by not taking time to exercise and enjoy life. The Lord has been dealing with me about this as I have come to the point of physical and emotional exhaustion and can no longer carry my workload. a few weeks ago Jesus led me to this scripture in 3 John 1:2 “Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” He wants me to take care of His temple, my body. Today I will see my doctor and ask him for a letter for sick leave from my work. This decision has been a long time in coming. Thank you for sharing your journey with so many. In what you wrote the Lord has reminded me that my health is important to Him. So it needs to be important to me. I pray that you will enjoy good health and prosper physically, just as you prosper in spirit.

  8. Sensing you are tired, David. You have endured mighty waves crashing against you. Even so, you have endured! You have accomplished much and even changed the course of time for many! Thank you for the impact you have had on our lives, and for having us witnessed the many miracles in your life. We stand by in prayer, as Our Lord’s Strength carries you forward in His Eternal Peace, Love and Protection.

  9. Hi David, Glad you are out. It’s great to participate in these experiments that may help many other people as well. Welcome back! Beverley, l was very interested in your church’s”Holy Hush” encounter with the Lord. Spiritual manifestations are so wonderful, confirming what we knew all along, God is with Us. l was in a service too when the Holy Spirit had everyone become absolutely silent and immovable. The worship team stopped playing and even people walking towards the exits, were prevented from walking out by Holy Spirit (As it was at the end of a service, the worship team playing very softly in a sort of “After Glow” time) It lasted about 3 minutes before anyone could move…….Awesome! Do it again Lord! Keep coming Holy Spirit!

    • Amen, Christine! Yes–during the “after glow” is the perfect way to describe the timing of the melting. I have experienced what you described, years ago, at Polson Park FMC, under Pastor John Kurrish. The Presence fell over everyone, as if we were in a silent sleep; babies and children, all quiet. On Sunday, it was an indescribable feeling of love–as if we were glued to the soaking of the Spirit–all flowing in the gift of the Presence! Even as I think about it, now, it warms my heart. The more deeply and more often we experience the hush of the Holy Spirit, the more profound the effect in our souls.

    • I have one to share as well. It wasn’t a church setting – it was a Christmas Concert in Chilliwack, BC at the Evergreen Hall. I was in grade 12 and played first trumpet in our concert school band. We were performing “The Little Drummer Boy”… Shortly after we started playing, a spiritual rush came over all of us in the performance including the audience… You had to be there. It was awesome. Only the movement of the Holy Spirit could do that. Praise God!

Have a great day blog friends in Christ…

  10. Praise God for His anointing healing power to continue to sustain and strengthen you David Mainse. Thank you for sharing and I join with you in faith for complete healing for you and pray this in the Mighty Name of Jesus the Great Physician…Amen! and Amen!!!
The picture of your Father’s bible is a confirmation of the wonderful guidance you had in your life to guide you to be the man God created you to be for His Glory. How blessed you were to have had such guidance in your early days!!!!

The faith of King Hezekiah is a good example for us…in faith to bring before the Lord all our need and trust in His faithfulness for His Highest and best in all we do and say. That He may be Glorified. Thank you Jesus for this DAY, IT IS THE DAY YOU HAVE MADE AND I WILL REJOICE AND BE GLAD IN IT.

  11. God bless you,David and many thanks again.I’ve posted this a few times but don’t know if you have seen it.I wrote this shortly after I began 100 Words.Blessings

Catch The Fire (4 David Mainse)

Though you have walked many oceans
And spread My word to many nations,
I saw in you and your devotions
    A servant of joyous exhalations.

You have not asked for earthly wealth,
But just to be my most humble voice
And when adversity was kept in stealth
You still worshiped Me out of free choice.

So out of free choice I give you
More time upon the stage of learning,
Whereby My word you show to be true
And catch the fire that’s forever burning.

  12. Please pray for me as I go to see the surgeon tomorrow. Today there was some drainage from my incision again, which worries me. I am hoping he will set my mind at rest.
Please pray that I will find God’s purpose in all the problems I have had in this last 5 weeks. I find myself weepy at times, yet I know others have greater burdens to bear.
I am glad you are home from hospital, David, may God continue to bless you and this blog, thank you for all you do for us daily, also your family.
Thank you fellow bloggers, for your prayers. God bless you all.

  13. Lord my prayer for Mary Stewart Lord is for your “Peace that passes all understanding guard her heart and mind in You Christ Jesus”…I pray for a good report from the surgeon when she goes to see him…that the incision would be free from any antibodies that should not be there. I pray for total healing in Jesus Mighty Name…the Name above all names. Amen!!! I pray for you Mary…to rest in the arms of Jesus!!

  14. I have been praying for you Mary Stewart! I have your name posted different places in my home! on my calendar! Weeping is absolutly ok! It is good for the body, mind and soul! Let the tears come, let it all out! I am so thankful that you post your blog and let us know what is happening! That is another reason why this blog is very important, it gives us an opportunity to ask for prayers, to share any issues we may have, and gives others an opportunity to pray for others! Again, God bless you Mary, the Lord will heal this incision!

This blog is a very good neighbourhood! I don’t have a neighbourhood where I live! Every body is doing their own thing, lots of addictions, mental issues, in the very beginning, some 21 years ago, we had a closer group of people, but many have passd away, new people move in, and the drug problems are all around….the safety is somewhat challenged, it’s different.
so, I for one, appreciate this blog, and appreciate the value of prayers for each other.

I’ve had Holy Spirit encounters right in my home! A few days ago I felt the Holy Spirit telling me that it is ok with my sleep disorder, that God wants me to rest! I heard this for 2 days. I accepted it! I believe it, I am very thankful that when I do sleep I sleep very sound! It may sound unusual but I feel good when I do wake! Can’t do alot of things, but again, I heard the Holy Spirit tell me that was ok! I do feel peace about the situation!

Mary Stewart you are surrounded with the Angels of Mercy, they are keeping you safe! The Lord will watch over your visit to the surgeon, you will receive good news! You will be rejoicing with joy!

  15. Hi Mary Stewart,

Rest your mind about your incision, some drainage is often normal after surgery . I have been an RN for over thirty years and worked on a surgical floor in a hospital in Brampton. Normally if you have increased redness around the incision , foul drainage and often you may have a fever or just not feel well then you may have reason for some concern. Also weeping is normal as you have been on a roller coaster ride since the beginning of waiting for the operation through to now waiting to heal. I used to say to my patients that their brain was telling them their surgery was over and many expected to be back to normal but their body was saying wait it takes time to heal. At least six weeks to 3 months to feel better.
God is totally in control and we just have to be patient.
i am on my own journey with illness. I was diagnosed last year with uterine cancer and had surgery, chemo and radiation. Now I am currently on my second round of chemo so I am trusting in my God to help me through this. Mary you will be alright. I don’t normally tell about myself but if I can help just one person feel better then the Holy Spirit has helped me do it.
Rev Mainse I am happy to hear you are home. Rest and home comforts with family members are great healers. Praise be to God. Amen and amen.

    • God bless you Pam! I pray healing in your life, starting NOW, in the Name of Jesus Christ, Our Risen Lord and Saviour, you are healed Pam! YOU ARE HEALED! AMEN

  16. Thank you for your prayers, God has promised never to leave me or forsake me, I claim that promise in Jesus Name. Pam I pray for you that complete healing will be yours, Jesus is the Great Healer, He knows our bodies, He made us. Thanks you so much, bloggers, it is a privilege to be a part of this blog. You have lifted my spirits already, thank you. God Bless you all.
