BEDROCK CONFIDENCE

Today’s Reading: 2 Chronicles 23

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion).

On several occasions when Israel was in big trouble, they cried out to the Lord (eg. 2 Chronicles 20:9). This photo is of an annual initiative on Parliament Hill in recent years called “The Cry,” where Christians gather to cry out on behalf of Canada. I was asked to lead in prayer at one of these events (photo below).

Key Verse: 2 Chronicles 23:16

Then Jehoiada made a covenant between himself, the people and the king that they should be the Lord’s people.

In the midst of a record of ungodliness and the self-seeking lives of the Israelites, our key verse stands out like a jewel. In one of the darkest periods of Israel’s history, it is encouraging to find leaders who are faithful to the true God. The actions of the priest, Jehoiada, along with Jehoshabeath, reveal a bedrock confidence in the faithfulness of God. They had not rescued Joash for selfish purposes; instead they had a deep desire to see the people brought back to a relationship with God. The influence exerted by this God-fearing pair resulted in the nation being raised from the depths to which it had fallen.

We need to look beyond our present circumstances to the living God. In our day, spiritual renewal will become a reality when we, as individuals, are willing to risk all in a fresh covenant relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, grant me the grace to commit to a renewed covenant with You today and every day. I ask for Your Holy Spirit to enable me to risk all for You. In Your Name I pray, Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

After I had made my lifetime decision at 16 to be a 100% follower of Jesus, I must confess that I slipped from 100% to 99%, and lower, from time to time. I would be moved by the Spirit to rededicate myself to the Lord over and over. Someone said that my “rededicator” was broken from so much use. I’ve mentioned this before I’m sure, but here goes again. I learned thoroughly the foundation of my faith in the doctrines of salvation. I reaffirmed that I was kept by the power of God. I memorized the words of Jesus in John 10:27-29, “My sheep know My voice, and I know them and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.” Those words of Jesus, and other Scriptures, gave me a solid foundation on which to build a consistent Christian life. This is a primary reason why I’m so very committed to this program of reading the Word of God every day. It’s tough going here in 2 Chronicles, but please don’t give up. In a few days we’ll shift over to the “Epistle of Joy,” Philippians.

Yours for the development of a more solid knowledge of God’s Word,

David

  1. We are the sheep, Lord, You are the Master. We have made a covenant with You, to live as loving servants, everlasting, for the glory of Your Kingdom. Praise be to You, that Your will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven. All the saints, bonded together by Your Word, sharing a faith so strong and sure, steadfast and true, give all the praise and glory that is due–to You, and You alone, Lord–our most high and eternal King. Amen, amen, and amen!

  6. David Mainse, Canada Day’s reading, spoke to me powerfully, so 2 Cronicles is good. I am having health issues, I am to have a hip replacement on Aug 31st, I need a left shoulder replacement, and I have injured my right shoulder, now it is the most painful. My daughter moved back home last August, and needs to heal from burnout from caring for Special needs adults, we live in a small house, and I am not able to do much. My daughter made a commitment as a child, but was hurt by people in the church, I really didn’t know if she was saved or not.
My husband has had a stroke 8 years ago, and has eye problems since last Oct, he has had surgery, but his eye will never be better, one eye is blurry.

The battle is not yours but God’s…..you will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you. Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the Lord is with you. Praise the Lord, for His mercy injures forever.

I have known and told others, that God had a purpose in all this in my life, at this time. He has been teaching me “He is enough”. Now that I know my daughter is saved, and that yesterday she got a job interview. I am content that even if the other things don’t change anytime soon.
God is still in control. He loves me unconditionally and He will never leave me or forsake me. What have I to fear? Nothing.

    • Praying for your healing, Mary, and that your surgery will make a difference. Holding you up to get through the summer. Angels of light are all around you. Amen.

      • Praying for strength for you, Mary.
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

  7. Beverlee, I come in agreement with you in prayer for Mary…may the Lord’s hand guide the surgery and healing come quickly. I pray also Lord Jesus ease the pain in Mary’s shoulder.

  8. Thank you David Mainse for those pictures of “The Cry”. Recently I saw Feytene being interviewed on 100 Huntley Street…one of the clips taken a few years back.
I am joining in prayer with the “House of Prayer” for the upcoming October Federal election. Lord God we need your intervention that Canada will awaken to pray as never before, and that people be wise when coming out to vote.
