Key Verse: Genesis 28:15

…Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.

God makes promises! In this way He encouraged Jacob. Jacob had heard the stories of God’s promises to his grandfather, Abraham, and his father, Isaac, over and over again. It has been said, “God has no grandchildren.” In other words, every generation must enter into a personal relationship with God. Jacob needed to hear from God. He was in a place of turmoil, running away from home, driven to desperate measures because of his own bad decisions. Jacob may have been blaming his disfunctional family. No doubt that night trying to sleep with a stone as his pillow was truly a “dark night of the soul.” But “between a rock and a hard place,” God took the initiative and gave Jacob assurance of His Presence. From this place going forward, Jacob knew he would never be alone again. God would fulfill all of His promises.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, I humbly call on You. Please speak to me. I need You! Please give me a promise for my life, for my future as You did for Jacob. In the Name of Your Son, Jesus, I pray. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Throughout my life I have received promises from God that moved me forward in His plan. For example, Norma-Jean and I had been producing a weekly telecast for 14 years, plus a children’s telecast for 3 years, when I became aware that it was time to move into a daily production. I believe I had heard that “still small voice” about this, but I was still not prepared to move out of my comfort zone, taking on a challenge that would involve creating the first professionally equipped TV studio in Canada devoted exclusively to Christian productions. It was at a prayer meeting in August of 1976 that God spoke clearly through two Scriptures, Psalm 19:2 and Acts 2:47. The first says, “DAY UNTO DAY utters speech,” and the second says, “The Lord added to the Church DAILY those who were being saved.” The combination of God’s communication with my spirit and the confirmation of Scripture was enough. On June 15, 1977, the daily 100 Huntley Street telecast was first broadcast live from that address in downtown Toronto, and it’s still going strong daily today! (click here for a 100 Huntley Street program from two years ago when my son Ron and his wife Ann showed some video clips from the very first daily program in 1977). Yours, believing God with you for God to speak to you today,

David

  1. Thank you Pastor David for today’s message! I often wondered/meditated about that scene in Jacob’s life, and what the lessons are for me, personally.
Your blog is such a blessing to me as it touches on application…
Thank you for 100 Huntley Street, the Lord’s Presence is in its history and we should share it, declare it many times on how The Lord moved in your life.
God willing see you again this Sunday.

  2. I ve watched since day one and the program has been there through yhe death of my son in times of financial lack and through sicknesses of my daughters I have called the prayer lines countless times
Thank You for being there for Me

  3. Thank you for your insights on Jacob. Never thought of it in terms of the ‘dysfunctional family’. Good point. I think we all run away from this from time to time in certain ways. Sometimes by just being indifferent or quiet. Or, in my case, say something confrontational & they stay away : ) Oh boy!! But further to that I appreciated your explanation of how the Holy Spirit spoke to your heart & how God confirmed it in Scripture & teaching. Thank you for sharing that. Sometimes I hear something & think it’s just wishful thinking on my part because it sounds too good to be true. May have missed a few things that could have been blessings but have prayed always that I would be able to identify that ‘still small voice’. Think I am more in tune & able to hear it as I go along, but your teaching today helped very much. Thank you for always sharing what God has put on your heart & all the personal touches. It is so very helpful. God bless you David.
P.S. Been saying the 23rd Psalm each morning from memory. Adding another verse/promise – Isaiah 41:10 I received this from the Lord in 1984, carry it in my purse but am now carrying it in my memory bank.

  4. Good morning friends. …thinking about your prayer for today DM… We’re planning a trip to Italy this fall and because of this my wife downloaded an app for her smart phone. When you speak into the phone in English, the app converts it to Italian and an audible voice in Italian is then heard from the smart phone and the reverse works as well… Is it possible to find something similar for your blog, so that others whose language is not English can also share and enjoy this wonderful blog?

Happy and fruitful trails my friends…

    • We’ve downloaded an app for the laptop from which I write most often. If I click onto a website that is in Italian, the app converts everything to English… So there is probably something similar available that could be used for converting this blog…

      • That’s a great idea. I’m not an expert at this, but perhaps a link to Google Translate where the blog text is automatically pasted. Then the language desired could be selected and read. Their own bibles in language would need to be read unless they know of a link to their language.

Enjoy your travel to Italy! We were amazed at every turn and sight! Great works of architecture, art, food and wine!

    • Yay! Have a great trip! We may go next year to my husband’s family reunion. My husband is of Hugenot lineage and they escaped from France to Italy. Always thought he was Italian, but no. Have a wonderful time and hope u keep in touch on your travels DL. God bless.

  5. It was good to go to the link and see the very first day with Ann and Ron.

Thank you for each breakdown of the scriptures and I am always amazed at how prevalent they are for our times too. The Lord is yesterday, today and forever!! Praise His Holy Name.

  6. Thank you for the great video of your early shows Rev. DM. I pray your show lasts as long as the Bible.
I’m speechless as far as Genesis 28-29 goes.
There are goats in the middle East so thought I’d post this cute video.
    Blessings on all saints.
    A sheet of Metal

  7. I started through the Bible with you in May. I like the format of one book at a time. I had tried the method of new/old/psalm eac day and found it confusing, hopping around. Thanks David , I am sticking with your format

  8. the 5 words that can stop wars, stop divorces, stop fights, stop abuse, …………….I’M SORRY PLEASE FORGIVE ME! Just that simple.
I am surprised how scheming people are in Genesis just as they are today…I don’t do very well with people who do this. If they plan to do things to help others in a good way, I am ok with that road. Sure enjoy going through this blog again. Thanks to David Mainse and his good health progress. What a blessing!

    • I enjoy your comment, I would like to expand on it a bit if I could.
Saying those five words without a commitment to true repentance, changing the behavior you are sorry about will make those words meaningless and hallow. Addicts, those who abuse others, adulterers are known for saying I’m sorry, please forgive me, over and over, and they might even mean it, but if they don’t actual change the behavior, those words lose their power. Often those five words become a quick way to release the uncomfortable feeling related to a guilty conscience and nothing more. There is no willingness to accept responsibility for changing the real issues. Those five words by themselves don’t resolves conflicts, but they are a critical first step in a long series of steps that will lead to reconciliation and relationship.
Also an equally important part of the process are another five words, that if not said will make the first five less effective and those five words are YES, I WILL FORGIVE YOU.

Thanks sah for insight, I hope you didn’t mind me adding to it.

  9. How corrupt is human nature…until the Transformer of our soul enters in and fills us with Himself, and we are clean.

I wrote this a few years ago…when going through some of my things today, I came across it and thought to share it:

    Where does my hope come from;
My hope comes from You, Lord:
My life is in You, my dreams come from you,
    who are true:
My peace and joy are fulfilled in you.

Why so downcast oh my soul?
    Put your hope in God:
Where does my help come from?
    My help comes from the Lord;
    My light and my salvation.

The River of life ever flowing, ever new,
ever fresh and ever true, and it all flows
    from You My Lord:
To fill every dry crevice and crack,
to moisten my soul with Your love so divine
as it floods this heart of mine
    thirsting for more of you;
saying, won’t You be all mine?

How can I say thanks for the things you’ve done
and let Your light shine ever out of me to those in need
to see all of You through me.

Oh Lord, let your River flow for all to see Your love
    and life through me.
