A boat trip down Egypt's Nile River is one of the best way to see Egypt. Today's reading mentions "The river of Egypt."

Key Verses: Amos 9:9

For surely I will command,

And will sift the house of Israel among all nations,

As grain is sifted in a sieve;

Yet not the smallest grain shall fall to the ground.

God pays attention to “the smallest grain.” Nothing escapes His attention! It is impossible that God could be untrue to His pure and holy character. God has provided a substitutionary payment for the sin of the entire human race…past, present and future…by the death of His sinless Son, and our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Sin violates God’s holiness, but His justice has been satisfied through Jesus, and we are made right before God when we repent and ask for His forgiveness.

Amos ends his book with five promises from God! God heals sick people and nations. God will (1) “Raise up,” (2) “Repair,” (3) “Rebuild,” (4) give the right to “Possess,” and (5) “Bring back the captives.” We all love happy endings! Thank You God, and thank you, Amos!!!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God I confess my 24/7 need for a constant attitude of repentance. As John wrote, “If we [ I ] say that we [ I ] have [present tense] no sin, we [ I ] deceive ourselves [myself] and the truth is not in us [me]” (1 John 1:8). Yes, Lord Jesus, I thank You for Your promise of salvation. I pray that prayer that You, Lord Jesus, guaranteed would justify me in Your holy Presence, “God be merciful to me, a sinner” (Luke 18:9-14). Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

The famous actor, Mickey Rooney, died at 93 this week. I want to watch some old movies of Mickey from the late 1930’s and 1940’s because I think he’ll look like that now in Heaven, and I want to recognize him when, by God’s grace, I join him. The last time I saw Mickey was here in Lakeland, Florida. He was in his late 80’s then. He was singing, playing the piano, and even dancing a two step. I purchased a memento picture album, and Norma-Jean and I got in the lineup for his signature. Just before he signed, he looked up and peered intently at me through eyes which were failing, and said, “Is that you, David?” We had a happy reunion. Back in the late 70’s Mickey was performing live on stage at a Toronto theatre. In the wee hours of the night he could not sleep. He turned on TV, watched a 100 Huntley Street repeat show, called in to our prayer line, and one of our prayer partners led him to Christ. I found out the next day when he was being interviewed on a live talk show, and he told this story. He said…

“There was this guy, Mainse, brains, or something, talking about Jesus. His guest was an Indian Chief (Bruce Thum), who held up his five fingers on his right hand and explained the word grace with an acrostic. The Chief said, (here Mickey held up his right hand with his thumb and 4 fingers extended) ‘GRACE means God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense!’ I prayed the prayer, and I know God has given me His grace.”

That afternoon I found out where Mickey was staying and called him, asking if I could come to see him. He joyfully welcomed me and we became friends. Every time he was anywhere near Toronto, we would get together for prayer and a great visit. Mickey had been married and divorced at least seven times when I met him. His first 40 years in showbiz were the hardest. The last 30-35 years of his life were difficult at times, but God continued to give Mickey G-R-A-C-E !!! I’ll see you soon my friend!

Yours as a participant in God’s wonderful, marvellous, matchless GRACE,

David

P.S. I suggest showing one of Mickey’s old movies to children and grandchildren. Then open the blog and click here for info on one of our animated productions, produced by Bruce Stacey, where Mickey Rooney (his personality, input and voice) portrayed the character of “Bullseye: The Rock that Bopped Goliath.” The episode is called “Splat Ball Square Off” (here is a preview). Check out our other GodRocks children’s productions (where the rocks and stones of the Bible come to life). They are at our e-store (click here).

  1. I never cease to be amazed by the influence you have had on people, politics and public opinion. If for no other reason, if I were God, I would keep you here a bit longer to “keep on” with what you began so long ago…

  2. What a wonderful and humble story about Mickey Rooney! It is certainly by recognizing the sin and emptiness in our life, that we are drawn to the saving grace of Christ, our Lord! Thank you Father for placing people in our lives who have enlightened us with their lessons of kindness, commitment, selflessness and long suffering, as we strive to live and extend God’s love, honouring our Creator. In times of weakness and despair, You are our eternal rock and shield! Blessings to all bloggers!

  3. I did not receive this daily reading April 7 and today, how do I sign up for it again? I do so enjoy this as it is the first thing I read in the morning when I wake up. Blessings

  4. Thanks, David, for sharing Mickey’s testimony of claiming Christ through the prayer lines of 100 Huntley Street, and coming to personally know and share a relationship with you. What wonderful memories of Christian fellowship you can look back on! Praise God he is in heaven with our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ! Safe in the arms of Jesus, safe on His gentle breast, sweetly, thou shalt rest.

So in love with the words of scripture. They paint a masterpiece of God’s absolute omnipotent power as creator. He touches the earth and it melts. He builds his lofty palace in the heavens and sets its foundation on the earth. He calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out over the face of the land. The Lord is his name! All powerful and mighty God, we give thanks and praise from the depths of our hearts! We are awestruck by your almighty power and saving grace. You have bestowed upon us the gift of eternal life through the sacrifice of your beloved Son, Jesus Christ. You are amazing God!!! We love You, so!!!

  5. Amos must have been relieved to hear that God would one day favour His people again.
So happy you were a friend to Mickey Rooney, Rev. Mainse…the right kind of friend. We tend to think that famous people have it all together and forget that they are human just like us. I know some children who would love to see Mickey’s animated movie about the rock. Will get it for them. Thanks for being you, David M.
Looking forward to our next study. Blessings to all.

  6. I remember when all that happened (when Micky phoned in)! He was an amazing person. I’m claiming those 5 promises from God. Struggling some physically just now. Encouraging words from the reading. God bless you all family.

    • God bless you, Doreen. May you be comforted and relieved of the physical distress you are experiencing, dear sister-in-Christ.

  7. Luke 18: 9-14

“…everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted”

Father God thank you for doing just that through your son Jesus…

Thank you God for giving us your son Jesus. For without his sacrifice on the Cross as an atonement for all mankind’s sins past, present, and future we would all be truly lost forever…

Whatever quagmire we find ourselves in – if we come to You Lord Jesus and repent of our sins through Your Loving Grace we can be saved…

Mickey Rooney heard the knock at the door through a repeat episode of 100 Huntley Street and his life hear on earth and ever after has been changed forever… Praise God! Amen!

Thank you David Mainse, David T, David, and Beverlee for your words of wisdom and insight…

Thanks to the Mainse family for this wonderful blog… It is as if the presence of the Holy Spirit is here with us each day… Can you feel it? Amen and Amen!

  8. Good morning David:

I do enjoy your blogs each morning. They are so uplifting and encouraging. However, I do not understand one thing. When a person has passed away, like Mickey Rooney, you say “I’ll see you soon.” No one knows when a person will die – only God. How do you know these things. I pray that by God’s grace you will be ministering to thousands for several more years to come. You mean a great deal to Christians everywhere. Hope you have a great, and blessed, day. Christy

  9. I imagine television will be playing the old Andy Hardy movies this weekend on most movie channels!! Looking forward to watching again!!

  14. God bless you David. It gives my heart a little fuzzy hug to know that you were personal friends with Mickey Rooney, and to think you were also involved in his coming to our precious Lord. Doreen what a blest memory to have, is there any thing about the joyous occasion that you can share with us. It seems like we all loved him. On the T.V. 2 days ago, Ron mentioned that Mickey said, he did not retire but inspire. David you must have herd him refer to the don’t retire but inspire. God bless us all , and Lord help us all inspire each other. In the precious name of Jesus.

  15. Thank you so much for sharing Mickey Rooney’s story, I am so thankful he was led to Christ through your ministry and that you got to pray with him. We have been blessed for many years by his amazing talent, now he can dance and sing on streets of gold with his Lord and Savior, Jesus! Hallelujah!

  16. I am always amazed…just when I think a certain person is not open to things of God…I stand amazed to find how wrong I was…’cause in Christ “nothing is impossible” …even someone as popular in worldly thing as movie stars …The Love of God is able to save…Thank you for sharing that story David!!!
