THE BOILING POT

Suggested Reading: Ezekiel 24-25

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion).

This large boiling pot of beans is at the Mully Children's Family in Ndalani Kenya. Through the years, much support has been given by our 100 Huntley Street viewers for the thousands of children cared for by Charles and Esther Mulli. This pot represents blessing, but Ezekiel's pot in today's reading represents judgment.

Key Verse: Ezekiel 24:14

“I, the Lord, have spoken it;

It shall come to pass, and I will do it;

I will not hold back,

Nor will I spare,

Nor will I relent;

According to your ways

And according to your deeds

They will judge you,”

Says the Lord God.

Ezekiel 24 has three illustrations which provide a picture of judgment. (1) The cooking pot. (2) The loss of Ezekiel’s wife. (3) Ezekiel has not spoken for some time, and now he speaks again. The reason for all this is found in verses 24b and 27b…that “you shall know that I am the Lord God!” Ezekiel’s knowledge of the future siege of Jerusalem (24:2) constitutes a confirmation of his genuine, God given, prophetic gift. Our key verse points to the fact that judgment is “according to your ways…your deeds, they will judge you!” The Judge on the bench simply recognizes facts and passes sentence accordingly. The people are their own worst enemy, bringing judgment upon themselves. It’s not God’s fault!

Ezekiel 25 points out that Israel is not alone in the destruction they’ve brought on themselves. Neighbouring countries also suffer the consequences of their sins.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I repent of my sin, and according to Your promise You forgive me (1 John 1:5-10, Psalm 51:1-4). I pray that I will turn 180 degrees away from sin. I realize that while I’m forgiven, sin still has its consequences in my life, my family, and my community. I cry out for purity of heart, mind and deeds. I do so in the Name of the only Person who never sinned, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I’ve just watched the new movie, Son of God, on the big screen. The scene of Peter’s sin in denying that he even knew Jesus was so powerful. The producers may have been easy on Peter because, while the Scriptures say Peter “began to curse and swear,” I don’t think I heard the cursing and swearing (read Matthew 26:69-75). I must purchase a DVD copy of this movie when it becomes available and view it again and again. The events of Jesus’ life were there with great strength, even though the order of those events may have been changed somewhat. A movie producer must be given the leeway to cover the material as he or she (Mark and Roma) see fit (for a 100 Huntley Street interview with this amazing husband and wife team, click here for part one and here for part two).

I was thrilled to see that several big-budget movies are coming out this Spring which are featuring the fact that, as Hebrews 11:6-7 says, “He that comes to God must believe that He is!” There’s Noah (click here for the movie trailer), Heaven Is For Real (click here for the movie trailer), God’s Not Dead (click here for the movie trailer), and Mom’s Night Out (click here for movie trailer). Four such movies in one season represent quite a shift in Hollywood. My good friend, Dr. Ted Baehr, is “Salt and Light” in Hollywood (check out his “Movieguide” website).

Yours in support of powerful visuals, as well as words, which, like Ezekiel’s word pictures (a boiling pot), convey “Truth!”

David

  1. Today’s reading is such a blessing, thank you and thank you for the movie trailers, what an exciting year this will be for movie viewers. I am so…tired of the garbage commercials that my family is exposed to: vampire diaries, etc.etc.etc. and I can’t wait for the upcoming movies to be announced. I hope our TV screens are bombarded with these movies. Father continue to bless everyone involved with bringing YOUR WORD to our families in such way so as to ignite a want for more. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  2. God uses prophecy in someone He has chosen, as the voice and vehicle, to implement and instill, a miracle of change in the world.

  3. Oh, yes, we are our own worst judges. For surely what we sow, we reap. Where would we be without Your selfless sacrifice for us, Jesus? Because of Your gift, we are free through forgiveness. We have claimed You as our Lord and Saviour. We lift up and adore You, our Heavenly Father. We thank You for the gift of Your Precious Son, and for the blessing of the Holy Spirit, that lives and breathes through us! We are nothing without You and everything with You! We give it all for Your praise and glory! Amen, amen, and amen!

  4. I agree today’s reading is such a blessing

  5. Can’t wait for the movies, especially for this generation. I have been praying that the Lord send labourers into the entertainment field for some time. Thank you Lord. How wonderful.

  6. So thankful for the ones who are willing and obedient to be the “salt and light” in Hollywood, praying the Lord will encourage and strengthen them.
    May the Lord be with you all.

  7. Vivienne and I saw the movie Son of God in Brockville on Sunday afternoon and were very moved by all we saw (even the horrific crucifixion scenes). We especially enjoyed the singing of Mark Lowry’s “Mary did you know?” at the end of the movie.
    It was interesting to watch the audience of about 40 leave in almost total silence (and possibly reverence).
    So pleased to see how healthy you both are looking in Florida.
    Shalom,

  8. Today’s study is so black and white. Sin and get punished. My heart aches for Ezekial losing his wife. Everything God does is for just cause. Sometimes we don’t see the cause right away but have to fervently believe that God loves us sooooo much and always wants what is best for us.
    So happy bible stories are hitting the big screens.
    May God bless us all today and always.

  9. “…The people are their own worst enemy, bringing judgement upon themselves. It’s not God’s fault!”

    God created us with free will. Amen. It is in our nature to push the boundaries provided us through our parents… some of us extend that rebellious nature toward God himself. Even Paul in the New Testament confesses his sinful nature…

    Thank you God for sending your beloved Son Jesus, so that we could see the “standard” that you want us to strive for… to become more Christ-like…

    Thank you Heavenly Father for your grace. Through true repentance and Christ Jesus our sins are washed away…

    Create in us a new heart oh Lord… We praise you! Amen and Amen!

  10. In our dog eat dog world, we have all seen it! That is people falling from grace, ministers, political figures and even the guy down the street. No matter what they have done, it is a dangerous thing to rejoice in their fall, we are shown that instead we are to take the higher ground, and pray for their restoration in repentance and their turning to the Lord. Hard as this is to do at times, we must do it, as the Sowing and Reaping spiritual law is so powerful! Lord help us all!

  11. It is sad how sin can be perpetuated, although no one can be guiltless of sinning without volition. Thank you Lord for Your forgiveness and grace, as we acknowledge and take responsibility for our trespasses. May we be ever mindful of Your presence and joyful in our daily walk with You. Grant that we may discern correctly, you will in our lives, whilst not judging others.

  12. Can’t imagine not being able to mourn for someone who as died, but God has His purposes, which is sometime so mysterious, and to see Ezekiel’s obedience only affirms the need to trust and obey.

    Looking forward to seeing all of he wonderful god filled movies that are coming. I too pray for those who work in the midst of Hollywood and what it offers sometimes.

    Let us continue to pray for those, like ourselves who sin, and need the Lord’s forgiveness. Don’t forget when we point the finger there are three pointing back at ourselves!!!

  13. My husband and I saw the movie “Son of God!!” On Saturday last and loved it!! So glad there are more biblical movies coming out!! That’s what this world needs!!

    Loved your pictures today, so lucky to be in that area!! Not in the frozen north!!

    Winter in Edmonton has been horrific this year!! Looking forward to a warm up this weekend apparently!!

  14. Great to imagine that we can bring our unsaved friends and family to these movies and open up the conversation of our Jesus to them. We have 5 movies to chat up about at our work and home. Amazing. The joy, joy, joy!

  15. for some reason I cannot get in touch with the interview of Roma and her husband regarding their producing he movie….it states that something is wrong and there seems to be in infringement of policies of U Tube so cannot watch the interviews…..maybe someone can investigate, thank you
