COME

Suggested Reading: Psalms 95-97

Israelis love their trees...Here in the Jordan Valley, you can see how the bulldozers moved the soil around the precious Acacia trees.

Key Verse: Psalm 96:7-8

Give to the Lord, O families of the peoples,

Give to the Lord glory and strength.

Give to the Lord the glory due His name;

Bring an offering, and come into His courts.

Psalm 95 is God’s invitation to “COME!” What do we do when we “COME!”… We “SING!” “SHOUT JOYFULLY!” offer to Him “THANKSGIVING!” “WORSHIP! BOW DOWN! KNEEL!” 95:7b invites us to hear His voice. We hear with our inner voices as we read or we can hear by clicking on the above scripture link and hear the Words being read out loud.

Psalm 95 was sung as the national anthem of Israel. In Psalm 96 we move beyond Israel to the whole world. All nationalities are invited to “COME.” By modern technology, Crossroads is inviting all peoples to “COME” and to “WORSHIP” the Lord in the beauty of holiness! What does crossroads360.com say to over 200 nations? “The Lord reigns!” (96:10-12a). The result will be that even the trees, including those Acacia trees in Reynold’s picture, will “REJOICE!”

Let’s not forget our key verse. When we come we give the offerings listed above, but we must not miss the exhortation, “BRING AN OFFERING!” Jesus watched as the widow placed her offering in the receptacle, and He announced that she had given more than all the others. When Jesus counts the giving of His people, He counts the level of sacrifice involved (read Mark 12:41-44). Psalm 97 carries on from Psalm 96.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

O Lord God, Your Name and Your message must be communicated more effectively to all the nations. I pray for Crossroads’ new Global Chief Executive Officer, Dr. John Hull, and the entire team of up-front people and those who make it all possible by working skillfully and by giving offerings sacrificially. Bless and strengthen us all in Jesus’ name! Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

It’s Sunday morning and I’m expecting to hear a message from God’s Word by our Pastor. As well, I’m listening to another message online. Our grandson-in-law, Rev. Jason Patterson, is preaching a message on “Overcoming the Giant of Fear” in the pulpit of The People’s Church, Oklahoma City. I’ll cut my personal words short so that there will be enough time for Jason’s message (click here).

Yours for living as Psalms 95, 96, and 97 encourage us!

David

P.S. Please write me a note regarding Jason’s message. I’ll pass your comments on to him. Also, please indulge a proud grandpa and great-grandpa. Here’s a picture from this past summer of Jason and our granddaughter Andrea, who is a PhD student at the University of Oklahoma, and our precious little great-granddaughter, Jadice Elizabeth Patterson. She’s now almost 10 months old.

  1. Inspiring message today by Rev. Jason Patterson about fear, commitment and hope. Sometimes, when life is a struggle, I am reminded of the fact that a plane takes off heading into the wind and not with it. But, we need power, wings to lift us and guidance to where we are heading. Life in Christ grants each of us hope and security with a destiny we can be sure about! Have a great day, to all!

  2. What a beautiful family! I can see why you are such a proud great- grand pa.
It is so wonderful to see the young people going into the ministry.Jason is a very powerful message, everyone struggle with fear, but praise be to God we are overcomers .

    God bless you!

    Denise

  3. Praise God for His precious word
I will bless the Lord at sll times His praise dhall continually be in my mouth forget not all His benefits , we are so blessed in our homes our country in our churches and our christian ministries on television , oh how we can bless the Lord through our tithes snd offerings abd the person o the street in need of a warm blanket and a hot meal and that single mom with diapers for her children and that child that sleeos on the floor without a mattress how can we bless the Lord in whatever way that the Holy Spirit speaks to you we are praising God by helping others

  4. Beautiful picture. I am on my way to worship the Lord this morning with the little ones (2 & 3 year olds) They are so precious and they are like a sponge. They pick things up so easily. Have a glorious day in God’s house blog-buddies and sing, “Come, Now is the Time to Worship”

  5. Thank you David for sharing Jason’s message. You are both right – God can be trusted! He is the One that is and always has been faithful! May God bless you both as you keep on proclaiming the Good News that never changes!

  6. What a joy it was to listen to your grandson in law Jason! He pointed out so many different ideas that made me look at my life and future in a more positive manner. I especially enjoyed his sermon when he talked about the fear of giving the tithe and also how GOD will reward and provide us with his blessings. So many of us (including myself) have had fear in giving tithe to our churches and/or ministries (especially if we are on a fixed income), for fear we will not have enough to pay our bills. I loved how he is so upfront, honest and sincere in giving the tithe back IF GOD does not reward those with HIS blessing that give with in 90 days.. I just loved that. Please thank Jason for helping me to look in a different way for giving the tithe. God Bless you David and your lovely family for these posts everyday!

  7. Wow! Wow! Wow! Your family is blessed Sir! One thing I enjoyed most was his sense of humour:) He teaches the word of God, Hope, Love and Faith with a great sense of humour. The audience gets to laugh and not be all tensed up in the process of digesting the truth, and that to me is a great way of telling people about God’s promises. Thank you so much, I enjoyed the readings, sermon and the blog in general:) GOD BLESS YOU! GOD BLESS YOU! And GOD BLESS YOU!

  8. I greatly appreciated what your grandson had to say about the fear of death. For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. II Cor. 5:1 What a blessed hope that is!

  9. Numbers 13 and 14 describe how some of the people who Moses sent to “spy out the land” of Israel which God promised them, caused all of them to fear saying that the rephilim are there, and told them not to try to enter it. Joshua and Caleb begged the people saying God promised that place to them and have faith. Yet, the people rebelled also there out of fear. Then, for this, God told them they would spend forty years in the wilderness. When it came time for them to return, only Caleb and Joshua remained of the generation that were there forty years earlier. Moses saw the land but God did not allow him to enter because Moses did not mention God when he struck the rock with his staff and caused water to come out of it (at Meribah). Myself, I have noticed that doing the right thing sometimes takes courage. When many people say love sin, deny Jesus and conspire to cover evil, it takes courage to say love Jesus, refuse to conspire with evil and repent from sin.

  10. Thank you for your faithfulness, David.I have been enjoying your morning blogs
And it has been an inspiration for me to spend time in God’s word even if I am
    Running off.
What a beautiful family you have. I too have 4 children, 9 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. They are the pride and joy of my life.My husband died 30 years ago but even so God has been so faithful and has blessed me so bountifully .Praise be to His wonderful name.

  11. Thank you Jason for that inspiring service on our blog today. I had a discussion
with some one today ,about tithing today. Should we tithe on our net income or our gross income? I said gross!!! the other said net!!!.. Well needless to say I was out
numbered no pon intended. God bless you in your ministry good preaching…R…

    • My husband is a CPA, you are correct, a person tithes on what they make, which is the gross income, not on what they take home, which is the net income. Also, Jadon is our son and we are so thankful God uses him to preach God’s Wird. We are blessed with Jadon, Andrea, and sweet little Jadice!!! God bless you!

  12. Encouraging message on fear, Jason and keep at it. All generations need to hear messages like this and especially the youth. God bless you in your ministry. Lovely family and photo. I have discovered that the Lord was sufficient for my fear of surgery. Blessings on the Mainse family today and fellow bloggers.

  13. I am left speechless and for me my husband would say how unsual .
Rev.Jason is confronting fear with such divine wisdom with also a sense of humer that definetly has a touch of the Mainse family character.
I will be sharing with great enthousiam Rev. Jason with our youth counselor and all the congregation so much hope from such a young ministry.
    God bless each and everyone

    XXXX Carole.

  14. Worship at my church, today, was so incredible. Praise God, and all His angels who sing in honour of our King! Amen!

Two days ago, Irene requested prayer for her sister, Ollie, and her husband, Merv. I have not had time to make a sincere post until now. Irene– please forgive me.

Dear Heavenly Father, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and to the sanctity of the Holy Spirit. We come before you, on bended knee, with love in our hearts for our fellow saint, Irene, her sister Ollie, and brother-in-law Merv. Lord, you know what Merv’s physical, spiritual and emotional needs are and we thank you for the extra medical care that is now being provided for him. We pray that Merv and Ollie are able to spend a great deal of time together, for their love for one another is great. We lift up Ollie to You, and ask for comfort and reassurance for her, Lord. She has carried the weight of caring for Merv on her own for so long, now. Her guilt fear and grief of placing her husband in a home are great. May Your Holy Breath blow away these feelings and cover her with a mist of comfort peace and hope, Lord. God bless their children, and bring their entire family together in unity under the coverings of Your wings. Wrap Your loving arms around them all, and keep them safe. Bless them with Your divine love, Lord. In Jesus precious name, we pray, amen, amen, and amen. God Bless you, Irene!

  15. The message Jason preached was really good. The fear of failure….even if we fall flat on our face, the righteous will rise again and Christ will strengthen us. Coming to the acceptance that I cant do it on my own, but with God all things are possible. Thankyou.

  16. A very good message from Jason. I am going to forward, by e-mail, this lesson and blog today. (I am very afraid of turbulence too). The message is very relevant for all ages – struggling students and seniors as well as the working public.

  17. Awesome preaching and message, Jason! Excellent scriptures!! We can overcome any fear and achieve the greatest of potentials God has planned for us! With His power and strength supporting us, we can do it! Amen!

  18. What a powerful message Pastor Jason – you certainly do have the gift of preaching! Your sense of humor as well as your boldness in sharing so many of God’s promises is so refreshing and inspiring. May God bless you, Andrea and Jadice as you continue to preach in His power
