Key Verses: Psalm 8:1a (and 8:9)

O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth.”

The shepherd king, David, sang the words of Psalm 7 “to the Lord.” Imagine singing of persecution, tearing apart like a lion, being trampled upon, etc. Somehow when we sing in our pain, it makes it more bearable, particularly when we also sing “My defence is of God,” Who is, “angry with the wicked every day” (Psalm 7:10-11). When in trouble, sing of God’s excellence. One of the benefits of an early morning start to our devotions is the time alone with God. There’s no rush. The telephone is not ringing. No one is texting you or knocking on the door. Therefore, since we have the time, I recommend that we listen to an excellent singer, Larnell Harris, singing, “How Excellent is Thy Name O Lord” (click here). Larnell has often appeared over the years on 100 Huntley Street, singing of the excellence of the Lord!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

“O LORD MY GOD, IN YOU I PUT MY TRUST!” O Lord, I commit to praying the prayers of David throughout my devotions daily in the Psalms. I thank You that while I pray spontaneously most of the time, I also find that it often helps me focus more intensely when I read prayers directly from Scripture or those prayers written by men and women who love and serve You passionately. I pray Your blessing and provision for all my fellow blog followers! Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

This past Sunday, I participated in worship at St. George’s Anglican Church, a congregation which meets in the chapel at the Crossroads Centre here in Burlington. The Rector is Rev. Ray David Glenn. I performed the wedding for Ray David and Rhonda a number of years ago. Rhonda was my co-host on 100 Huntley Street television, and in 2010 she passed into the immediate presence of the Lord. In preparation for partaking in communion at the Sunday service, we read together the following prayer, “Lord God, we have sinned against You; we have done evil in Your sight. We are sorry and repent. Have mercy on us according to Your love. Wash away our wrongdoing and cleanse us from our sin. Renew a right spirit within us and restore us to the joy of Your salvation, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”

On Tuesday of this week, I hosted on television, along with our Chairman of the Crossroads Board of Directors, Don Simmonds, the introduction of our new Chief Executive Officer, Dr. John Hull. John served well as the Pastor of The People’s Church Toronto, from 1993 to 2000. If you can take the time, please watch this interview (click here). Also, HERE is the press release from Crossroads about this change. I believe with all my heart that this organizational move is in God’s perfect will. While Don Simmonds has stepped aside as CEO, he retains the Chairmanship of the organization. Don’s wife, Faye, is not well. Please pray for her complete recovery. Amen!!!

Yours because of the “excellence” of the Name of the Lord “In all the earth,”

David

  1. Father God, we thank you for this new day, a new opportunity to glorify You and to do right in your sight, for as today’s scripture says “O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth”. We give thanks for Your Holy Scriptures which illuminates our path and leads us in Your eternal way. We also give thanks for this daily blog which aids our praise of You and helps us in learning more about the scriptures daily. We think on those who are less fortunate this day, those who don’t have nourishment, those who are treated unjustly, those who have to fight moment to moment just to survive, Lord be with these people I pray, provide their needs this day and have mercy on them. We pray for Crossroads and all the staff who make Crossroads and 100Huntley what it is, encourage them and help them to know that they are doing a mighty and most necessary work of the Lord in today’s technological age. We pray and give thanks for the new CEO Dr. John Hull, Lord, sustain him and give him guidance for this new journey ahead. As well we pray for the outgoing CEO Don Simmonds, his family and particularly for his wife who is currently suffering poor health. Lord we ask a healing hand be placed on this woman for You are the great healer, nothing is beyond Your ability particularly when we agree together and pray in Your will. As well we continue to pray for the complete healing of David Mainse, restore His body to be completely healed, we also pray for the healing of blog buddies that may suffer this day from an array of troubles, health and otherwise. Lord, we know that nothing is beyond Your ability, You created the world and everything in it, including each and every one of us. You know us more intimately than we know ourselves. We entrust our lives to You, for You are our life, our promise, our hope, our faith. This day I pray all of this in Jesus’ glorious name. Amen.

  2. Watched the video with Don Simmons, Dr. John Hull and you, David. Wow, what a powerful team with such an expanded and linked in vision!! On another note, last nights storm here brought amazing lightning and thunder. This, combined with Reynold’s early morning sunrise photo was an inspiration and awe towards our Almighty Father and His slendor. As you have suggested, it has been peaceful to start the day following your blog and reading the assigned scripture early in the morning without distractions. Thank you for all the effort and prayers!! Have a great day, to all!

  3. I was just taking a moment to appreciate dawn exactly the moment I read, “how amazing it is to see the sun come up over Gallilee!” I am not in Gallilee but it is still a peaceful and optimistic thing. Often God does things to say, “I am watching and I love you.” Light at dawn is one beautiful thing. Light and a comment from God about it at the moment I stop to enjoy it is true Grace of God – are you not speaking God’s Word? This is not what I was talking about yesterday but equally personal in nature/quality. The fact that people can make fun of God’s Word does not stop God from speaking to those who will listen.

  4. “inspiring…over the sea of Gallilee.” maybe sometimes there is a prompt forgoten about but when God wants to give a tap on the shoulder we can know a good tree by it’s good fruit.

  5. What a wonderful reading to wake up to today, and wow the picture of the sunrise over the sea of Gallilee is amazing. Our awesome creator gives us wonders we sometimes cannot imagine, but having a Saviour who loves us and died for us is The Greatest Gift of all.

Will be much in prayer for all you asked Pastor David. Saw the great interview with you, Don and Dr. Hull, quite a team! Will be praying for Don’s wife Faye. Blessings to all at Huntley St. And our fellow bloggers.

  6. Hi David
I trust that you believe in healing and deliverance ministry’s. because Gods word says we will be casting out deamons. Jesus himself took our sins and infirmities when he went on the cross, for those who have sickness in there bodies. God is raising up great deliverance ministers in our communities . I have been watching on the you tube, people moving in great authority from God. One such apostle, I recommend is Gillermo Maldinato,of King Jesus Ministries. Out of Miami Florida, I know you vacation there. What he has,is worth the while to check out. I myself listen to his teachings, they are very powerful. They fill you with Great hope and faith to do what Christ had done and is doing know, through us. I believe there is a healing for those around you when you learn the truth because the truth sets you free. Many Blessings to you and yours. Sister in The Lord Margaret.

  8. Wow!! what a amazing photo its nice to see as I cannot see a sunrise or sunset through my window all I see is alot of rain in Charlottetown at the present.
How do you pray the scriptures David??? I know David and Paul have prayers in the bible. The prayers are not all for today or am I wrong
    Lianne Hogg

  9. Hi Lianne, When l first came to the Lord , my mentors told me to pray the Word of God.It was one of the best things l learnt to do, as there is power in the word and since it is God’s heart, we are praying in a delightful way to him. You take a scripture that fits your heart at the time and adapt it to make it your own. .g.Psalm7:i0 My defense is of God most high, who saves the upright in heart, You may choose to pray: Heavenly Father, thank you that you defend the upright in heart, help me to be that kind of child to you, l love you so much.

  10. Excellent photo today – just magnificent!!!!!
We had some severe thunderstorms last night and my almost 3 year old granddaughter was with me. I said to her so she wouldn’t be frightened (and me too), ” My, the clouds are really angry and fighting with one another”. LOL. Then after a bit the skies clear and sometimes a beautiful rainbow can be seen. How awesome is that???

I love the Psalms. There are so many choruses and worship songs that we sing that come directly from the Psalms including the one from our key verse today – O Lord, O Lord how majestic is Your name in all the earth. I loved the song by Larnelle – he is a gifted solist.

Thank you again Pastor David for bringing up this blog every day. It is always inspiring and uplifting and “just what the doctor ordered”.

  14. For David :
    In The Blood

I pray for healing in the blood,oh Lord,
I pray You will stretch out your hand,
That You,my Lord, with Your fiery sword,
Will show justice and not let evil stand.

    I know,my Lord,that Satan has cursed me
And that only you can remove this hex,
For it is you,Most High, that none can see,
Who can take any scourge from our necks.

So I pray for healing in the blood,my God,
That you allow me to serve you,
So as I spread your word all may laud,
The name of the Father in all we do.

  15. Hi! Thankyou Scott for that inspiring prayer, God bless you, And thankyou again
David .M. for this blog , . May God bless you and keep you strong, Amen…R…

  16. Iam reading this blog every night before I turn in, which puts me in a peaceful mood. Thank you David for this?I realize how much effort it takes. God is good and one day we will see His Glory cover the earth. Thanks to all for your entries, I was strengthened by them. PTL

  17. This is one of my favorite blogs – thank you David and all bloggers who contribute daily. When I was searching for truth God led me to read the Psalms for which I’ll forever be thankful. Many verses are underlined and every so often when I am needy, I have a spiritual feast and read the underlined verses which continue to inspire and comfort me. I’ve also used God’s Word as prayers – He tells us to “Cast all our cares upon Him for He cares for us” (I Peter 5:7) He is always so loving and kind and cares about every detail in our lives. Because He is so faithful I know I can count on Him for the rest of my life. May God bless each one of you and meet all your needs – our God is so wonderful and worthy to be praised, and He promises to “never leave us or forsake us (“Joshua 1:5”).
