ROCK SOLID

Suggested Reading: 2 Chronicles 24

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion).

The hill of Golgotha, next to The Garden Tomb. The Cross of Christ and the empty tomb are the solid bedrock of our faith! (John 19:41; Matthew 27:59-60).

Key Verse: 2 Chronicles 24:2

Joash did what was right in the sight of the Lord all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

Yes, as long as Joash had the powerful influence of Jehoiada, he did well, but when Jehoiada was gone, he was like a ship without an anchor. He moved with the next wind that blew. The new influences moved him away from God to introduce idolatry back into Judah.

We all have influence! How are we using that influence? There are those who are easily swayed one way or the other. They seem to lack a strong foundation. What more could Jehoiada have done to cause King Joash to be unmovable in his faith and service to the true God? Perhaps Jehoiada kept control for too long. After all, he had ruled as regent while Joash was still a child. Let us who are in the older generation be sensitive to the next generation. In wisdom, let us know when to back off our authority, using our influence wisely, so that those who follow us will become strong in their own relationship with God.

Jesus said that the wise man built his house on a rock (Matthew 7:24-27). It seems that Joash had built upon shifting sand.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I need to understand in a greater way that You, and You alone, are my solid Rock! By Your grace I pray that I will build my life on You, not being moved off my foundation by the floods of the current opinions of those who would push me away from You. Also, please let me know how and when to use my influence, so that those who follow after me will not be so dependent upon me that they will not be strong in You themselves. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Today is “Independence Day” in the United States. The time came when the leaders of 13 of the colonies of the United Kingdom had to stand on their own, not being ruled by King George III and the government across the Atlantic. The Americans had a faith in the God of their fathers and honoured Him in strong statements of their faith, which are found in the documents of the new republic. It was obviously important for these colonies to take a stand. The result is there for all to see. Happy July 4th to my American blog readers. There is a book I’ve read more than once called, “The Light and the Glory” by Peter Marshall Jr. and David Manuel. To any who want to know the true history of the United States before the historical revisionists wrote their books, this is the one! (click here for information on getting this excellent book).

In 1982, Crossroads produced videos honouring the United States and highlighting their Christian roots (click here for a sample of our efforts). As the U.S. Presidents have been saying since the days of Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan, “May God bless America!”

Yours for a strong rock solid foundation on which to build our lives and our countries,

David

The signing of the Declaration of Independence, July 4th, 1776. The Founding Fathers of the United States believed that their reading of the Bible gave them the right to resist tyranny. They had a "rock solid" conviction that they had the blessing of God.

  1. Hi David, Wow, what a disappointment that King Joash fell from faith in God, after Jehoiada’s death. God is good and kept Jehoiada alive until he was 130 years old, to make sure that there would be many true believers in Judah, under his Godly influence. It is interesting to note that Jehoiada was buried amoung the kings to honour all the good he did, whereas king Joash lost his place of burial amoung the kings in the royal cemetery, so was buried elsewhere! It is so true that leaders must raise up replacements with great wisdom, and know when that person is ready, letting go and letting them do it, while they are still alive to help from the sidelines. We also learn from Joash’s life that we must keep pressing on with our \Lord, as in Eccl ll:3 warns..As a tree falls ,so is it” Thanks David for helping us keep on track! Have a great day everyone! Happy Independence Day America!

  2. Dear Brother David,
I’m listen your message on your blog now and I want to tell you that because of the Chronicles I realize the holiness of the Lord, the obeisance, the knowledge of the Scripture , and applying in my life. It is the sure way to please the Lord. I have a family, children and grand-children and my hope is that they will walk in the lord, some already walk but not all yet. And I’m waiting of His return, may the Lord bless you . In His name Lise Guertin.

  3. By being solidly grounded in faith in Christ with roots tied into the fundamental principles of the Bible, we can stand firm for the journey of life. Trying a little of this philosophy or of that religious practice will bring about disaster. Not only will it not guide you to Christ for salvation, it would not be within God’s perfect will for your life. Solid rock or shifting sand … it’s ours to choose.

  4. I guess I will just have to type it out – copy & paste is not working properly.

My hope is built on nothing less
    Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

On Christ the Solid Rock, I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness veils His lovely face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the vale.

His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood
When all around my soul gives way
He then is all my hope and stay.

When He shall come with trumpet sound
Oh, may I then in Him be found
    Dressed in His righteousness alone
Faultless to stand before the throne.

On Christ the Solid Rock, I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand.

    Praise the Lord, Hallelujah!!!!

  5. Gratefully reminded by this morning’s reading and messages that we stand on the solid rock of Christ, together. The Bible is the only answer. Let us glorify God and achieve the freedom of everlasting life through Him.

So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth; it shall not return to me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. Isaiah 55:11

“I am the Bread of life. My very life is sustenance for your soul. I break the bread of My word, giving you your daily portion, sustaining you in your earthly journey. As the Israelites needed their daily supply of manna, so you need My freshly broken Bread.

“My word does not return to Me empty. It produces the fruit of the Spirit in your soul. Bury it deeply by faith, so that its fruit may be abundant. I want your life to bear an abundant harvest. Remember, My child, that harvest comes toward the end of the year, and do not mourn that you will not see it all. Trust it to Me, and keep listening for My freshly broken word of life to you. That is more than enough.”

  6. Dear David M . and precious fellow bloggers
It is so clear this morning what kind of consequences will happen when we compromise and turn away from His Righteousness and dont stand on that Solid Rock which is Jesus .

  7. Today’s readings reminds me to stay strong in The Word and I love the psalm David wrote after being delivered from his enemies and the hand of Saul. I claimed this when I was diagnosed with BA as I considered cancer my enemy…..

Psalm 18: 1-3. I will love thee, O Lord, my strength,
The Lord is my rock and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from men enemies.

Blessings to our American friends and bloggers on this July 4th.

I pray fresh touches from The Lord for all my fellow bloggers today. Blessings!!!

  10. To days bible study proves how important it is for each of us to have our own personal relation ship with the Lord. The way I see it is ….If your fallowing some one else’s walk with Jesus and they suddenly stop walking you’ll bump smack dab into them and also come to asudden stop. What then? If they stray would you stray. God forbid.

No! We must walk in our own walk with the Lord so we can stay grounded and
be there for our fellow Saints when and if they do stop walking while going through a dry spell. As already discused It can and dose happen .

I like Davids way………….. a redediction prayer ! How reasuring and fresh.
