Key Verse: Numbers 11:14

I am not able to bear all these people alone, because the burden is too heavy for me. If You treat me like this, please kill me here and now — if I have found favor in Your sight — and do not let me see my wretchedness!

Imagine how excited all the people were as, “They started out for the first time” (10:13). It is plain to see that the emotions they felt were not grounded in faith. Almost immediately they began to complain about the food. They remembered the menu back in Egypt, and they were not happy campers. Complaining always has a ripple effect. Now Moses is complaining to God. God has a solution as He always does. We need to read twice Numbers 11:16-30. Moses’ response was prophetic, “O that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them.” Joel’s prophecy (Joel 2:28) predicted this. Peter quoted Joel (Acts 2:14-21) to explain that God was now doing what Moses longed for. God put His Spirit upon the Lord’s people and they prophesied. What is New Testament prophecy? “The testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy” (Revelation 19:10b).

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, John the Baptist said of You, “He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” I ask for today, and every day, that You will immerse me in Your Holy Spirit, and keep me submerged in the Spirit always so that I will constantly speak, “the testimony of Jesus.” Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

When I first became a Dad, I remember reading Numbers 11. There were two Dads (I’m stretching it a bit here), Eldad and Medad, who were home, and while they had responsibilities as elders, they had not made it to Moses’ meeting. Nevertheless, God put His Spirit on them at home just as He did on those who were in the tent of meeting. They prophesied (11:26) right where they were. I expect God’s Spirit to come upon me when I’m at a meeting, but also when I’m not. Moses was so depressed over the complaints of the people that he asked God to kill him. Then, He and Elijah (who also asked God to take him out of this life) showed up on the Mount of Transfiguration to strengthen Jesus who, in His humanity, needed the ministry of these men. If Jesus needed their company, so do I. I’m here in Israel as I type this, but I don’t actually expect Moses to show up. However, Moses’ words are showing up before me, and his words encourage me to press on.

Yours for uplifting messages from Moses, Peter, Elijah, and most of all from Jesus!

  1. Thanks, David, for today’s message–very re-affirming. “Ask and so shall we receive…” We, too, need only ask to be blessed with the indwelling Spirit of God, to guide us. Have a blessed day, walking in the footsteps of Jesus (and Moses, Peter and Elijah)!

  2. It appears in this reading many of the Israelites forgot it was in God’s plan to be where they were, having been freed from Egypt. The carnal complaints for meat ended in destruction for them. Meanwhile the elders prophesied. It is amazing how the two “Dads” still received the gift, though they were not at the meeting. Obviously, they were in God’s leading, instead of lacking faith.

  3. I pray that Jesus will show up for me too. I have heavy burdens and I can’t seem to see a solution. I do love this blog. Thank you so much. God bless and strengthen

    • I hear you Doreen. When we can’t see a solution, that is when we have to say out loud – several times a day – “I walk by faith, and not by sight. Thank you Lord that You hear my prayer, and the answer is in the way”. Say this often until your faith rises up and your worries take a back seat.

      Jesus loves you Doreen!

      • I have comfort here in God’s words and the friends in Christ. I thank all of you whom have prayed for me and I will do the same for you.

  4. Your title, “Rise Up” inspired me after a restless night. Also, the thought that same Spirit, the Holy Spirit that was on Moses came on the elders, his helpers and they prophesied. That was Moses’ desire for all God’s people. The Holy Spirit is our helper and will bear us up. God bless David and Norma-Jean and all the tour group.

  5. Thankyou for your insights, David! I was thrilled to see so much
more clearly how Moses and Elijah, two strong leaders, had moments of frailty,
in their humanity, and then were the very ones who came to encourage Jesus
when He needed it .We have an awesome God!!
It is wonderful to be reminded that His hand has not been shortened regarding
His power and ability to take care of us, and your concerns, Doreen. We have
been blessed with His precious Holy Spirit! We need to just trust Him! I am speaking from experience here….He WILL bring you through!
Bless each one, Lord, this day. David , Norma Jean and family, we pray a refreshing, healing time for you, full of Divine appointments!
    Thankyou!

  6. Hi David and Norma Jean, We are remembering you in payer often while you are away in Israel, those flash prayers which we know are prompted by Holy Spirit are being lifted up for you by many. What a loving and caring Heavenly Father we serve! There is nothing hidden from him and he is totally faithful,he always comes to us in our time of need when we cry out like Elijah and Moses and many others. Praise the Lord!

  7. Thank u David for your words, for your honesty.

May God bless u and keep u and Norma Jean safe in Israel.

I marvel that God spoke to men and that He speaks to me.
I enjoy this blog and reading the book of Numbers.
Esp. where Moses was so honest with God and hid nothing from Him.
Not that u could anyhow but the familiarity that Moses has with God is amazing.
    Now we can as well.
I simply marvel somedays that I am saved and that God loves me
    It is that simple
I marvel about the things He is doing worldwide. I marvel at His goodness. I know that He is good b/c He has confirmed it so many times in my life.

Reading this daily blog is one way God has shown His goodness to me.
So thank u David for your faithfulness!

I am reading a book by Anne Graham Lotz also.
I am keeping a journal b/c God is showing me so much.
Esp. regarding resting in Him. He is the vine and I am the branch.
I do not need to strive but I need to rest.
I totally understand where it states in the bible to take my yoke upon yourself for I am humble and meek in heart.
I constantly strive, wanting my family to be saved etc.
Instead I need to rest in Him and as I seek His face and lift up the name of Jesus all men will be drawn unto Him. That means my family and I claim it.

Thank u again David and Norma Jean for your faithfulness and lovliness in the Lord.
May the Lord carry u and keep u in peace and may His grace be found in your words.

    In Christ
    mellany

  9. Dear David and Norma Jean

Thank you for your ministry. You have brought me back to God. Your blog with God’s scripture, the bible study of your knowledge and your personal touch has given me strength, and God has come alive in my heart. God bless you!

  10. It can be the cloudiest of days, but always remember a bright sun shines on the other side.

God has a plan for each and every one of us. He loves us and desires to be in relationship with each of His children. Although it may seem like dark times in one’s life right now, God’s Son shines within and will make all circumstances work for the best, for those who are in Christ Jesus.
