The Tabernacle of Moses replica was set up at Crossroads in Burlington, Ontario, for the summer of 2012. This is looking from just in front of the divide of the Holy of Holies through the Holy Place toward the Outer Courts. The Golden Lampstand is on the right, and the Table of Showbread on the left.

Key Verse: Numbers 9:15

Now on the day that the tabernacle was raised up, the cloud covered the tabernacle, the tent of the Testimony; from evening until morning it was above the tabernacle like the appearance of fire.

Our reading begins with the arrangement of the lamps so that they give maximum light in the Tabernacle. The lamps enabled them to see with their physical eyes. Guidance when it’s dark is provided this way, there was light like the appearance of fire above the Tabernacle at night (verse 9:15). There is an inner light described here (verse 9:8). Hearing from God brings insight. That inner light shines for us as we read God’s Word each day. For example, we can observe that the Levites are a type of Christ as they represent the people before God (verses 8:17-18). In the Bible, this is called “typology”. There are many examples of this illumination so that we may see Christ with greater understanding as we read the Old Testament. To show how this works in the light of our reading, I suggest you read now Romans 8:29 and Colossians 1:15-18. Jesus is revealed in this light as the Firstborn among God’s children and the Firstborn in all creation.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, please shine the Light of Your presence so that I may see You always. As we saw in our reading two days ago, You make Your face shine upon me. I love You Lord, and see both outwardly and inwardly that You love me. Thank You for revealing Yourself to me. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Later today, I expect to have the joy of seeing, by the light of the sun, such sites as the ruins of Caesarea, the place where Pontius Pilate had his seat of power as Roman Governor. Back in the 1960’s, when I first visited there, great sand dunes covered what we now can see. Through the centuries, sand from the Sahara Desert had blown into the sea and been transported from the south coast to the east coast. Then the winds blew the sand into piles along the shore. There were, for example, so called scholars who claimed the story of Pilate was fiction. But then, in the 1970’s, as much of the sand was removed, a large stone was discovered with an engraving which revealed the accuracy of the Biblical account. To show this fact, I arranged for a replica of this stone to be displayed in our Expo ’86 Vancouver Pavilion of Promise. Later, as we opened the Crossroads Centre in Burlington, the same stone was displayed, along with replicas of many archaeological discoveries, all of which help us to see that if God’s Word is true as history, and it is, then it is also true when the Light of the World shows us eternal truth. God willing, I’ll be reporting to you tomorrow from the Sea of Galilee.

Yours, to help us “Walk in the light as He is in the light” (1 John 1:5-7),

David

  1. Jesus is our light and our life. His truth shines in the darkest moments in our life when we need Him most. His word is always there to provide guidance to show us the way of truth. His eternal light is always before us, beckoning us to move forward through life toward the finish line, in Christian character, integrity and grace. Soak in the light of Jesus Christ and know the beautiful vibrancy of our loving Lord and Saviour, for He alone is our light and life.

    • Hi David, Thank you for the blog. It is my newest connection to 100 Huntley. Thanks for the series over the last couple of weeks. I was in a deep depression and contemplating suicide. I kept in touch with my Pastors but 100 Huntley was such a blessing to me every morning. I had watched before in the 70s when you were hosting but I was away from the Lord. Even though I was off work and short on cash, I ordered the CD Healing Atmosphere because you said it would be OK. The fellow who took my order was exemplary. I called back to see if I could get an account number assigned to me so I can donate when I get back to work. Apparently that isn’t a problem. I am praying for your healing ’cause we are not ready to lose you. My uncle is 93 and he has the same diagnosis. You are such an inspiration! God Bless You and Norma Jean and all the Crossroads staff!

      • Please pray for me . I am alone and feel so abandoned at 83. Pray that God will forgive me for failing Him. I feel so hopeless.

        • Elizabeth I pray God will let you see this. Your comment showed up on the 9th instead of the 11th. I want you to know God loves you. and will never leave you or forsake you. We have all done things that we feel has let God down, but because of Jesus He quickly forgives us brings back into his loving arms. Grab hold of those loving arms and let Him hold you. You are not alone, God sees you and is there. Isaiah 41:10 says…Fear not, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed. I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will help you; I will uphold you with my victorious right hand. That victorious right hand is Jesus Christ, hold on to Him, He will never let you go. My prayers will be with you too. Your loving sister in Christ, Nancy

  2. Good morning from Canada, David! It will be facinating to see the Holy Land through your physical and spiritual sight, and read your commentary based on the knowledge and spirituality you have. Todays reading speaks of our inner eye. I am thankful for following through with our daily scripture reading, which opens new realms of sight. Enjoy your day!

  3. Thank you for continuing to write your blog even though you must be pretty busy! Your insights are tremendously enlightening and inspiring. May God continue to bless you and your loved ones.

  4. Never have I been more pulled in, than by today’s reading, and your guidance of interpretation, David–thank you. The Lord is speaking so clearly to all of us–it is indescribable. You are the vehicle God is using, to minister your gift via this blog, to open our eyes, so that we may grasp each grain of the Word; become enlightened by it’s deeper meaning; hear and listen to God as He speaks to us, and receive and live the harvest of His Truth.

As we are engrossed by the inner light, which breathes through us, we develop a more profound insight. In turn, we will pass that on to others, through our lives. The connection between the Old and New Testaments has never seemed more alive than by today’s reading.

Bless you, David, Norma Jean, and the others traveling with you, as you enjoy your journey in the Holy Land, today.

  10. What could be more perfect enlightenment than being ‘more than conquerors’ through Him that loved us! God’s Love is infinite, His love never fails and gives the ability to handle all needs. With God all things are possible. From the presence of God within, comes peace of mind and assurance that ALL is well! ‘God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides within’-1 John 4:16.

  11. Dear David: Today’s message reminds me of why we (my husband and myself) were invited to be guests on 100 Huntley back in I think, 1988. I wrote in about watching the program and seeing a glow about you. I asked my husband (a Christian) what it was, and he told me “it was God’s glory shown about you”. Later when I came to know Christ, I had been out driving on a cloudy day, trying to get my two babies to sleep and stop crying. I pulled over and gave my heart to Christ. Immediately, the car was filled with a bright light – though the conditions outside hadn’t changed – mine had – forever. Yours in Christ…Ellen
