CLEAN

Suggested Reading: Leviticus 14

(click scripture link to read online)

In the area of Caesarea Philippi in Northern Israel, clean cool water from Mount Herman runs swiftly below these waterfalls at Banias.

Key Verse: Leviticus 14:8

He who is to be cleansed shall wash his clothes, shave off all his hair, and wash himself in water, that he may be clean. After that he shall come into the camp, and shall stay outside his tent seven days.

Please click on this scripture passage: 2 Cor. 3:14-18. When reading the Old Testament we must read through God’s prescription glasses. He has provided that when we read Scripture, looking through the Person of Jesus Christ, we are able to see with insight and understanding. In yesterday’s reading, the priests were given instruction in the detection of leprosy. Today’s chapter deals with the procedures for cleansing and restoration into the community. Our cleansing is by the Blood of Christ (1 John 1:7). Restoration into the full fellowship of the Church, after spiritual leprosy is cleansed, is described in 2 Thess. 3:6-15. Please click that link and we’ll be blessed to read together.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Please help me to receive those who turn to You in repentance as You have received me. Lord Jesus, I need Your cleansing every day, and I thank You and my fellow believers for receiving me into Your Church. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Today’s photo is a magnificent demonstration of the intricate beauty of God’s creation for the cleansing and productivity of the land. I stepped outside a few minutes ago and gazed at the sky. The stars were so very bright and the moon was front and centre. A racoon scampered away from his breakfast on the seeds the birds had dropped from the feeder. How do I think about these things? The human brain is the most complicated organization of matter in the universe. One of our cells is more complicated than the entire man made electric power system of Toronto. I’m not surprised that, in reading Leviticus, sometimes my eyes glaze over with incomprehension, and I feel like going back to bed. The detail in Leviticus is tough for us to handle. God is a God of infinite detail. I know that I will stick with my reading and with this blog because of the grace God has given me. Lots of people give up their reading at this point. I know I’m stubborn enough to keep on keeping on.

Yours for persistent and consistent reading of God’s Word,

David

  1. I am Thankful for your words each morning, even when I am up early and you in the East and I in the west Your massage is waiting.I have been in the Word in early morn long before you started this blog. And I want you to know you add to my morning. I am 80 years young and sharing Gods Word with someone who cares give one a boast. I have had cancer and the Lord has been faithful. Many things cross our path yet we are never alone. God Bless you and yours. Lila

  2. yes your right, God is a God of detail, this morning I find that really reassuring !
Do you think women of that day went through the same cleansing rituals as men did if they were diagnosed with leprosy?
Thankyou David for your daily blog.

  3. The advancement of the time in Leviticus is facinating, such as the construction of their homes, plaster, oils produced, the advancement in fabrics etc. I look forward to each days reading, Reynold’s photograph and your timely, personalized words. Praise God in all His Splendor and Glory! I have one prayer I have asked of God for years … when I die, that I may have a tour of the Universe!!

  4. I am grateful for your daily blog David, it’s like a fresh source of manna to start the day everyday … even if it is Leviticus! haha! My stumbling point is usually the book of Numbers for some reason. At any rate, we shall all commit to moving ahead for many more early morning spiritual insights. Thanks once again David.

  5. Hi David, Thanks for your encouragement for hanging in there with some very heavy reading,. l also want to thank you for bringing our attention to the additional references that bring us so much more clarity. The part that speaks about if a man does not work neither shall he eat, triggered a memory when l was just a b rand new ChristIan and a lady was having financial difficulties because her husband was not working because he had some emotional and mental issues, l remember foolishly quoting this scripture to her in my ignorance and this made me this morning bow my head in deep repentance and l truly pray all is well with them now and he is well and they are happy and blessed.

  6. David, thank you for encouraging me to continue in the Word. A lamp unto my feet! It is sometimes hard to stay focused in Leviticus but God has something to say or it would not be there. I am so thankful He nudges me to keep going.

Continuing in prayer for strength for you with a grateful heart.

  7. Dear David; Thank you for reminding me of the diligence it takes to read, and stay with it. I know that even if I get behind a few days in your blog I really find it hard to go back and stick with reading all the details you have left for me, so I know what you mean by having glazed over eyes. Thank you, Thank you, for encouraging me. I love the click-on scriptures I can go to during the study. It’s so much easier than searching them out in the Bible. God bless you, and give you the strength you need from day to day.
    Much love and prayers,
    John

  8. Good morning David. Sometimes we ‘gotta do’ what we don’t want to do and reading some part of the OT can be such times when we just ‘gotta do’……Leviticus is just such a book so that I and many others struggle through, but to know the Lord, it is something we need to persevere with, and in doing so He will bless us with increased understanding, and even a love for all the intense detail. If it wasn’t important for us to know all these things it would not be a part of His love letter to us. Your daily message on scripture and your own personal prayer and words make slogging through these ‘heavy’ parts much easier ~ not just get through the book, but to understand. Happy Thanksgiving and blessings to your David, and your family.

  9. Thank you Mr. Mainse, for your daily blog and all that you teach us. And for your son’s beautiful photographs.
I enjoy each morning’s read with all the comments too!

    Happy Thanksgiving Everyone !

    Enjoying your daily blog 🙂

    Diane

  10. It is such a blessing and comfort each morning to sit in the presence of God, reading His love letter to me. What an added joy to be mentored by you David and as well the faithful across this beautiful country who add their comments to the blog. I am strengthened and nurtured by this spiritual family. We are one in Christ! Blessings to you and yours David. Happy Thanksgiving to all. We have much for which to praise and thank our Loving, Generous Father!

  11. Mr. Maines; I found it interesting how you compared one single human brain cell to Toronto’s electric power system! The complexity of not only the human brain but, of every living thing on this planet is far beyond our full comprehension and impossible to duplicate, although man is desperetly trying to create life? There are living creatures out there that man has not discovered yet. How anyone can review all of this and attribute it to evolution and not to intelligent design by our mind boggling God amazes me! Praises for you, Jesus, for your fantastic artistry and creation! Amen. Have a great Thanksgiving, everyone!

    • Dear David,
I have so much to be grateful for as a new christian and being able to follow you’re daily teaching step by step with everyone is truly a blessing.
Happy thanksgiving to you and all the gang at Crossroads !

P.S. I will also use my being hard headed to persevere through Leviticus.

  12. Thank you for this reading…yes it is a little difficult but remember Psalm 1: the man who meditates in the Law is blessed. Thank you for leading us through it.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and all your family.
ps I particularly enjoyed Moira Brown’s comments Friday on the origin of our Canadian Thanksgiving holiday. (on 100 Huntley St. Broadcast)
Thanks again to you and Norma Jean for initiating and founding Crossroads Communications. 🙂

  13. With gratitude for God as a constant source of supply, my God will fully satisfy every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. “Happy children make a Happy Thanksgiving”!

  14. As I read all these replies, it reminds me that I read somewhere ( or maybe heard it ) that the Old Testament has also been described as: ” an intensive course of Life With God! ” We need an understanding of this ” Course ” to fully grasp the New Testament and consequently the ” Jist ” of the Word of God. Does that make sense? OT, NT, It’s all important! And deserving of our time and effort in an attempt to understand. Thank you, Lord, for Leviticus, Numbers and your entire word. Amen.
