Key Verse: Luke 10:18-19

And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you…”

Here we are back in school as “Talmudim,” students in Jesus’ study class for disciples. 1st, Jesus teaches us that He has a prayer request of us! (verse 2). 2nd, Jesus says “Yes” to His prayer request when we pray it. He says to us, “You, yes you, are the answer to my request for prayer.” 3rd, Jesus equips us for the harvest of precious souls by giving us His authority. 4th, He teaches us to beware of the sin of pride in the results He gives us. Jesus does not say, “Good job” to the seventy. He immediately refers to Satan’s fall from Heaven as a result of pride and the desire for self exaltation. 5th, Jesus instructs us that the greatest reason for His joy and our rejoicing is the fact that our names are written in Heaven. 6th, as any good trial lawyer, the man who asked the question of Jesus already knew the answer. 7th, The Good Samaritan story teaches what true ministry is all about. 8th, like Mary, we learn to sit at Jesus’ feet and learn from Him.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, the prayer request You ask Your pupils to pray is obviously very important to You. I’m available as a labourer in Your harvest field. “Here I am, send me” (Isa. 6:8). I ask You Lord to consider this blog as a small part of my daily labour. Help me to be a Holy Spirit starter, and not just a self starter for the rest of the next 16 hours until I retire at 10 p.m. Amen!!!!!!!!!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

When I work in His harvest field, all I have to do is pray with anyone who’s willing to have me pray with them, share the Word of God concerning their need, give money and time, work with my hands whenever the opportunity presents itself, and Jesus will take care of the results. He will accomplish His purpose in each willing mind and heart. He gets all the credit. According to Luke 17:10, having done my duty, I’m to consider myself an “unprofitable servant.” I know that the correct attitude will enable me to avoid the sin of Satan, pride. I am reminded of the Good Samaritan by Reynold’s picture. I have a friend named Bob Curle who spoke in chapel recently. He said, “I always prayed to be the Good Samaritan, and one morning while sitting in Church the Lord spoke to me”…and it totally rearranged Bob’s thinking…Jesus said to Bob, “You can’t be the Good Samaritan, that’s my job. You are the innkeeper. I’ll bring hurting needy people to you. I’ll provide the necessary funds, and when I return you’ll be paid in full.” I really enjoy going to Jesus’ school daily.

Yours for the best education in the universe,

David

  1. Good morning, David.

Thank you for your continued guidance and reminder to keep us rooted throughout the day. Keeping in mind it is all for the glory of Jesus that we are set free and enable others to know Him as we do.

    Wishing you a blessed day!

  2. Pride is arguably our most predominant sin. In the western society in which we live it is promoted and hailed as a great attribute. It’s a society all about the ‘individual’ and their self-fulfillment, perhaps the adage of the American dream has promoted individualism. Individualism particularly in the setting of secularism is dangerous, for it promotes a people who ‘look out for themselves’ unfortunately, and not the needs of others. There’s no room for this kind of thinking in the church. The church, based on Jesus’ teaching, is a group of people who look out for one another and who serve one another, setting pride aside. Jesus’ teaching is revolutionary to a culture such as ours, and will therefore be quite unpopular as a result, no wonder He is so reviled by secular culture and the prideful religious. We who believe are Jesus’ disciples today, we must heed the words of Jesus and at every opportunity put our pride aside and choose the better way … by keeping our eyes firmly fixed on our redeemer, Jesus Christ! Charles Stanley states it best when he says “Obey God and leave all the consequences to Him”.

    • It’s interesting, Scott, because the western world, which is classified as ‘individualist’ and the eastern world, seen as ‘collective’, are at opposite ends of the spectrum. Both attributes are predominant as a result of the cultural and religious perspectives people are raised in (and subsequently, choose for themselves).

For instance, the Chinese are a collective society and yet fail to embrace Jesus because they did not grow up learning and practicing His teachings compared to the eight noble steps of Buddhism. The Chinese have had to learn to live together in larger family units and to be a more cohesive unit for survival. But what about their position on salvation and forgiveness?

Only in Jesus are we completely set free because we are blessed by God’s grace and the love and forgiveness that Jesus’ sacrifice allows us to follow.

      • I admit to not being very knowledgeable about missions but from what I have heard, China is probably the fastest growing mission field in the world with regards to Christianity. Maybe God is using this “collective thinking” in Chinese culture to bring many to Himself, which I say AMEN! Because we are going to need these missionaries to evangelize western society, and I don’t think that day is far off! I hear that Christianity is booming in Korea as well.

        • Back from Europe and caught up. This is exactly the kind of condescending thinking that alianates people … the opposite of “love”. No wonder there is little room for debate, without being “labeled” as secularist or an “unbeliever”. Physician, heal thyself!! Enough of preaching to others … speak for yourself and how God’s word speaks to you.

  3. Good Morning David,
As you said in the harvest field like you I pray when someone asks me, and I give
and help those in need whether spending time with another or not. God is the one who will answer our needs.
    Have a wonderful day

  4. I found that word to your friend Bob Curle , so freeing David. It takes the pressure off us to “perform”. We just need to be available and sensitive to
the leading of the Lord whenever He brings the needs to us.As the word says…
He will do it.(but He uses our hands, feet, mouths and hearts to touch hurting
    humanity) Blessings!
