BY HEART!

Today’s Reading: Psalms 31-32

King David’s Tomb is a site traditionally believed to be the burial place of David, King of Israel. It is located on Mount Zion in Jerusalem. Notice the harp, violin, and musical notes on the drapery that covers a sarcophagus, a stone casket. Songs, hymns, and poetry in the Hebrew language are the inheritance we have from King David. Jesus would have sung David’s songs in Hebrew. Our English language translators have done a great job in capturing the beauty of David’s language, particularly in the King James Version (1611 to about 1770 English). One of the reasons the New King James Version (the 1970s) is used in this blog is that while moving to modern English, the translators managed, for the most part, to keep the beauty and accuracy of the original English translations.

Key Verse: Psalm 32:5

I acknowledged my sin to You,
And my iniquity I have not hidden.
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”
And You forgave the iniquity of my sin.

The key verse should sound familiar to us because of our common human condition. David shows us that the only way we can experience the freedom and joy God intends for us is through acknowledging and confessing our sin. A New Testament teaching we should read regularly is 1 John 1, the entire chapter.

There are two other verses in today’s reading that we may want to read again. Jesus began His ministry quoting His Bible during His wilderness fasting, and now here are His last words from the Cross quoted from this psalm/hymn composed by David (31:5). Let’s move to these words, “Make Your face shine upon Your servant” (31:16). Back in Psalm 4 David writes, “Lord, lift up the light of Your countenance upon us.” David is borrowing from Moses here. Moses taught us a three-fold blessing which we use in our benedictions even today. Check it out from Numbers 6:22-27.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, my prayer today is Psalm 32:5-11. I’m reading this to You Lord! Thank You that as a result I can “be glad,” and I can “shout for joy!” Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

From my childhood the expression “to know by heart” meant I had memorized a poem for recitation to my public school teacher in front of the class. In Sunday School I was required to recite the weekly memory verse “by heart.” My mother and older sisters made sure I had it right. Again and again Jesus quoted from His Hebrew Bible. He’s my example of the importance of the “Word.” I’m learning daily to count on the Holy Spirit to bring to my memory Scriptures which I’ve learned by heart that show me how to respond to the need at hand. Please join me in reading John 16:7-15. The Holy Spirit guides within the authority of the written Word of God. I’ve learned to always check with Scripture, and to take the next step and actually pray the Scriptures.

Yours for proclaiming the joyful message of salvation through Jesus,

David

  1. We proclaim the joyful message of salvation through Jesus, amen. Thank you William, Luisa, Doreen, Eleanor, Laur, Rob and all the saints for having prayed for me. Yesterday pm, I went to the hospital as my leg was swollen twice the size. 14 steel staples removed and blood tests done. Ultrasound was ordered for today to check for blood clots. I will get the results directly afterwards. Ever grateful, we thank You, Lord God, and for the saints as we pray for one another. Centered in Your Word, we worship and adore You. His blessings upon you. Amen.

You shall serve the Lord your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from among you. Exodus 23:25 ESV You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah. Psalm 32:7 ESV

    • Beverlee can’t imagine what pain you must have been in. I am praying that you will have good results from you MRI.
I love both of those praise songs, they were new to me and I really enjoyed listening to them.
I am sitting in our car outside the hospital waiting for Edward. He had a spot removed from his back about a month ago. He then had a call last Thursday to come to the hospital today for the Doctor to dig deeper. I would appreciate your prayers that they will get it all this time. The poor guy has enough on his plate with the Leukemia. We should get blood test results on that the first week in October.
      Blessings to all Eleanor M.

  2. Thanks Beverlee, for the worship link. It’s always fun to sing along. Sorry to hear about your swollen leg. I pray for the Drs to have great insight & wisdom in diagnosing & treating you. Exodus 23: 25! I will take sickness from you! My daughter had serious hand surgery yesterday also. Her fingers were curling into the palm of her hand. (She’s a nurse & this was challenging along with a back injury). Alberta is short of nurses & they are overworked. Let us know your results – we will keep praying. Blessings all.

    • Holding your daughter’s fingers and hands in prayer for healing and protection, and for all the health care workers across Canada, especially where the hospitals are shortest in care and most in need, Doreen.

  3. I have a praise report to tell you all. Yesterday I got groceries and from there we were going to another store. Oh my goodness where was my purse? I left it in the grocery store. Back we go to Zehrs. I prayed God would protect it. Sure enough it was still in the cart where I left it. It was not even touched. I just gave God the glory and praise. He is so good. Next time purse goes in car first.

Praying for you Beverlee and Doreen s daughter. May God heal to both of these wonderful ladies. God bless.

    • That is a wonderful praise report Nan.
Joining in prayer with everyone for Beverlee, may the doctors have God given wisdom in knowing how to proceed and may the blood flow increase and bring healing to your wound and may the swelling decrease!

Also praying for Doreen’s daughter for strength and a good post-op recovery!
May God Bless and keep our health care providers!

  4. Amen to all the prayers. May God bless and be with all those needing medical care. May the hand of the Lord be with all the physicians, surgeons, nurses, etc. to help them bring healing.
I don’t comment everyday, but I do add my prayer to those that are in special need, and also for others that may not post their needs, that God will bless each and everyone.
I pray for all the health care workers that were being proclaimed as heroes, working tirelessly, with improper equipment for months and are now being threatened with firing if they don’t get the vaccine. The hospitals can not afford to lose them. Other vaccines are not mandatory and I am sure there are a lot of medical people vaccinated but I pray they will not for political reasons make them mandatory. Many people are relying on natural immunity provided by our Savior and I’m sure his immunity far exceeds a shot in the arm. For those that want and feel the necessity of a vaccine, pray and go get it for yourself.

  5. I also am joining the fellow bloggers in prayer for Beverlee ( May the test results show that there are no blood clots), Edward (and Eleanor…being a care giver is a difficult, demanding job), Doreen’s daughter and everyone else.
May God touch and minister to your area of need. May His presence be very evident and comforting to all!
    We have hope. Ps 71:14

  6. Thank you to all the saints who prayed for me. There was no blood clot–just bleeding and infection. The swelling will just take time and once the infection is cleared up, it will make a difference. Staying off it as much as I can and will keep it elevated above my heart but also need to walk a little bit each day to work the muscles. So grateful and thankful for your prayers. God bless each and every one of you.
