THE NEW KING

Today’s Reading: 1 Kings 1

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion).

Jesus would have walked on this now crumpled road that runs along the Western Wall of the Temple Mount. You see on the left openings where shops once were, and it was also the support structure for the walkway that led up into the Temple Mount. On the wall near the top you can see where the base of the walkway bridge was. It is called Robinson’s Arch, after Biblical scholar Edward Robinson who identified its remnants in 1838 (see the extra photos below for some close-up views and an artists rendering of how the walkway likely looked at the time of Jesus).

Key Verse: 1 Kings 1:48

Also the king said thus, “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who has given one to sit on my throne this day, while my eyes see it!”

Thank God for a peaceful transition from King David’s rule to that of Solomon. No precedent had been established in Israel to determine succession to the throne. Saul, and then David, had been chosen by popular demand (although God did the real choosing). It was not public knowledge, but David had earlier chosen Solomon to succeed him. With the reminder from Bathsheba, and the support of Zadok and Nathan, David moved decisively to avoid civil war and another family tragedy. The godly counsel of the priest and the prophet were key to a smooth transition of power. Within our homes, our churches, and our countries, tragedy will strike when struggles about authority and leadership arise. Blessed and peaceful are the families, the congregations, and the nations that allow God to influence decisions and pray for God’s will to be done. Solomon learned from God, Nathan, Zadok, and his father David. We may want to read what Solomon wrote in Psalm 72:1-17. It’s no wonder that a long period of peace came to Israel and its neighbours.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Dear Lord Jesus, have dominion over my life, my family, the church worldwide, as well as my local congregation. May Your influence be strong in the governing of our land and other lands. I pray for the peace of Jerusalem, Israel, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, and the other Arab states. I pray for Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, China and the Koreas. Please raise up people in those and in other states who call upon You, Lord God. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

The tragedy of the slaughter of the innocents in abortion, with no protection whatsoever in Canadian law, came about in the 1970’s. However, I thought that all was not lost in regard to the protection of these little ones when our government changed the words of our national anthem to include “God Keep Our Land.” These words are belted out at every hockey game, baseball game, football game, etc. For many who sing them, it may only be lip service, but for me it’s a fervent prayer. The other thing that encouraged me was that God was recognized in our new constitution in the early 1980’s. I was so hopeful when the Minister of Health, the Hon. Jake Epp, presented a bill to Parliament in the mid 1980’s, which would have protected the lives of some precious ones still in the womb. This bill passed with the votes of the elected members of the House of Commons but failed by one vote in the Senate. These people, most of whom were appointed by a previous government, overturned the will of the people as expressed by the elected members of the House. God takes most seriously, I believe, the commitment of Canada’s founders, who made Psalm 72:8 the motto of our Land: “He shall have dominion from sea to sea.” That scripture is carved in stone at the entrance to our Houses of Parliament. Therefore, I haven’t given up hope that somehow our representatives will all come to their senses and do something to stop these little bodies from being poisoned or torn apart in their mothers’ wombs. While Jake Epp’s bill would not have stopped all abortions, it is apparent that at least 100,000 Canadians are with us today as a result of the threat of passing that bill, which stopped many hospitals from performing abortions for a brief time. May God have mercy on us!

Yours for decisions that will please God in every area of human life,

David

  1. An appropriate prayer by David for this time. Israel’s peace is being tested right now by Iranian bombs, India & Pakistan are overwhelmed by COVID-19, and MAID, has come into the picture here in Canada – not to mention the abortions which are so freely available. Lord have mercy. May we look to You Lord in every situation. Amen

  2. Worshiping You Lord, our Heavenly Father, our Saviour Jesus Christ, and to the sanctity of the Holy Spirit. Thank You for this day. His blessings upon you, fellow saints in the Lord, as most of us worship on-line, today. Amen.

    “You are my servant, I have chosen you and not cast you off”;
    fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God;
    I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:9b-11 ESV

    • Yes Laur, I mentioned it later on Friday. He has to wait until around May10, for the results. He was a bit sore and a bit tired but he is feeling better today. Thanks for asking.
      God Bless all those who are suffering any ailment.

    • Beverlee: I have been meaning to tell you I saw little Judas over a week ago, when we were out walking. He is looking great and has a mass of curly hair. I asked his mom if he still goes to sick kids every three months. She was delighted to tell me he goes every 4 months now. That means he only goes 3 times a year now. God is so good.
      Take care, Eleanor M.

  3. The world is falling apart from lack of knowledge…generation by generation.Christians are supposed to ‘witness’ to the unsaved who have little or no knowledge (as was my case) but ‘something’ makes most of us afraid to do so.Faith makes the difference.Those who have strong faith are not ‘ashamed’ of our Savior.Luke warm Christians have their foot in the door of His kingdom and that is all they want but what about us in between???
    Some in other religions are successfully lying about Christianity and Judaism and that is why the UN,controlled by ‘them’,is isolating Israel (and we Christians will be next) and these evil nations are attacking Israel via proxies/3rd parties with no accountability because ‘our’ leaders are mostly spineless….Pray for Israel.
    The World Forgot

    The world forgot what is right
    For we were supposed to teach them,
    By sharing with them the light
    But we could not reach them.

    Not long ago we ‘were’ them
    Until we found the light He gives;
    The One the world would condemn,
    Then died to show He lives.

    They don’t want to know our ways
    For they think their ways suit them best,
    But we know how it dismays
    When one begins the quest.

    We must begin to reach out
    Or we may loose them all to sin,
    So we must defeat the doubt,
    To plant the seed within.

    Using words at their command
    Will allow His word to imbed,
    Thus they can then understand
    Why He rose from the dead.

  4. Amen for today’s reading which was very powerful just thinking and praying for Sah we have not heard from her for a very long time so whatever happened why she’s not doing the blog anymore it really concerns me in Jesus name I hope she’s okay 🙏🙏🙏🙏

    • I have a feeling Sah is still reading along with us, Marilyn; definitely praying for her. My concern of late is for Ger. We might be praying for her, as well. I was especially blessed, this morning when a former prayer leader/warrior from Kingston called and prayed with me in the powerful Spirit of the Living God. It was wonderful. By His stripes we are healed. We need call on the Name of Jesus, where two or more are gathered together and know that His Will reigns and we are safe in His loving arms. We lift everyone up who needs a touch, this evening. May this song give you strength to keep fighting. Amen, amen, and amen.
