EVANGELISM

Today’s Reading: Acts 8-9

The Port of Joppa was a busy place during Bible times and still is today.

Key Verse: Acts 9:5

And he said, “Who are You, Lord?” And the Lord said, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting…”

What a team of the Lord’s servants in today’s reading! Stephen’s broken body is buried. Philip heads out to evangelize. Peter and John join him in Samaria. The Ethiopian treasurer heads home to witness for Christ. Saul of Tarsus is converted and boldly witnesses for Christ. At Joppa (present day Jaffa), Dorcas is raised from the dead as a witness for Christ. Aeneas of Lydda (present day Lod where the International Airport is located today) is healed. What is the result of all this? Exponential growth of the Church. “Multitudes with one accord heeded the things spoken by Philip” (8:6). “The churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria…were multiplied” (9:31). “All at Lydda, and Sharon…turned to the Lord” (9:35). In Joppa, “Many turned to the Lord” (9:42). God’s purposes have not changed. God’s power has not changed. Let us move out in bold faith to see the same happen today. Amen!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, we have a word today that I don’t find in the Bible. It’s “retirement.” You are filling us with new energy as we do this blog daily. Show me, and all who read this, how we can be a part of the dynamic growth of Your Churches. Amen! and Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I believe in and seek to put into practice outreach ministry beyond the church walls. In villages where I was a Pastor, I sought to take the lead in mobilizing some members of the congregation to visit every home. We would ask if there was a need for which we could pray. We would inquire about children for Sunday School or teens for the youth activities. In the large cities this was more challenging, but we would stake out areas to visit. I trust that I will have the health, strength, determination and the blessing of my Pastor to keep doing this. By gently asking about needs for prayer, I’ve never been turned down. People know when they are cared for, not like the door-to-door cults that try to indoctrinate people by visiting them to add points to their religious record.

Yours for consistent growth, early church style, in Jesus’ Church today,

David

  1. Thank You, Father, for Your life-giving Spirit here with us. Thank You for Your church all over this world. Bless, strengthen, encourage, and embolden all Your people everywhere, that Your will is done on Earth as in Heaven. In Jesus’s great name, amen

  2. Amen Rob. What an exciting and eventful time in today’s reading. I pray for us all as well, like David, that we have strength to also minister in our settings, whatever they be. Retirement does not mean “close up shop”!!
    Blessings all.

      • Thanks Beverlee. Saw my Acute Care doctor today. He is very dedicated (hard to find that these days were the virus stats are so high). He ordered another medication which I will receive in a day or two. He’s in touch with my cardiologist as well. It has been an uncomfortable time for me. I totally put my life in God’s Hands each day. He’s trustworthy!!!! Amen.

  3. My 16 year old granddaughter is to have a Covid-19 test done today at 11:45. Pray for her. That her results will be negative. A student in her class has it. I pray he will recover quickly. Other students that have been tested , they were negative. I have a good feeling about this. She is in quarantine right now.
So if all reading this could say a quick little prayer for her it would be greatly appreciated. God bless you all today.

    • Yes Nan. Praying for your dear granddaughter. Father, in Jesus Name, minister to this girl & her classmates and direct their care. Placing them before You and asking for Your Perfect Plan & restoration. Amen

  4. Nan I have just seen this and I have prayed for your granddaughter, that her results will be negative. If she is positive, I pray that the Lord would heal her quickly. It will be hard to wait for the results but I will continue to pray that they will be negative. Blessings Eleanor M.

  5. Praying for Luisa’s husband, Joseph. Lord God, we pray that You bring an end to his nausea; perhaps a medication that will help. We pray it was only for one day and that he improves from this treatment. Lord God, give him comfort and hope–the hope we know that You are. Ease Luisa’s worries, Lord. Hold them safely in Your arms. In Jesus’ precious Name. Amen.

    • Thank you so much, Beverlee! He has been doing better. He has some medication which he takes when the nausea comes on. He finished one week of treatment today, two more weeks to go. We are asking the Lord to keep him strong throughout the treatment and beyond.
      God Bless you!

  6. Praying for Ger’s leg numbness and tingling, Lord. Ger wonders if it is neuropathy. We pray she gets to see her family doctor about this and be tested for diabetes just to be sure. Lord bring an end to this troubling numbness and give Ger a sense of peace and ease her worry. Give her Your strength, Lord God, and grant her peace. In the mighty Name of Jesus. Amen.
