THE PROMISED LAND

Today’s Reading: Numbers 33-34

The Dead Sea road follows the contour of the rugged terrain.

Key Verse: Numbers 33:53b

…for I have given you the land to possess.

Yesterday, Reynold’s photograph was of “The Great Sea,” the Mediterranean. Today it’s of “The Salt Sea,” or the Dead Sea. Both Seas are mentioned twice in today’s reading. “The Sea of Chinneret,” known now as the Sea of Galilee, is referred to once. Geography is obviously important to God. The 1948 miracle of the establishment of Israel as a sovereign nation for the first time in over 2,000 years, and the introduction of Hebrew as a language of daily life for the first time in over 2,500 years, has never happened to any people group before in human history. Israel is now on the land promised to the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob 4,000 years ago.  Israel is surrounded by 22 countries which are hostile to its very existence. These countries have 640 times Israel’s land mass and 60 times her population, and they have most of the oil that we know about in the Middle East. Was Israel pushed into the sea as Egypt’s Nasser said? Will it be wiped off the map as Iran’s Ahmadinejad said? Keep reading the Bible. Watch and pray. We’ll soon discover the answer to that question.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I pray for insight in my understanding of ancient and modern Israel. Help me in as few words as possible to communicate Your heart to others. May I think Your thoughts after You. As Samuel said to You, Lord, I say also: “Speak, for Your servant hears.” Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

[Written by David on November 24, 2016]

You may want to join me in reading the story of God speaking to Samuel (1 Samuel chapter 3). God sometimes speaks through dreams or visions, but 99% of the time it is through our reading and meditating on His Holy Word. Psalm 107 says,  “He sent His Word and healed them.” I’m now 2 1/2 years past the date of my appointment with death, according to the medical professionals. Twice now my wonderful oncologist was present when I thanked the medical team for all their help. He pointed up and said, “And you’ve had lots of prayer too.” True!…and I’ve also received the daily injection of God’s Word in reading the Scriptures and writing this blog. That’s powerful medicine!!!

Yours with the prayer that I’ll be a help in Christian growth and healing,

David

  1. Praying for Israel, always. Amazed by the Old Testament and how people lived during those times; in today’s reading, moving all the time. God chose Samuel and would place the gift of prophecy upon him. Thank You Lord for today’s Word, message and prayer. His blessings of peace love and hope upon you, fellow saints in the Lord.

For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer.

  2. Wow ! Moses certainly kept a strict ‘daytimer’ of the exact locations and order of the Encampments of Israel. I find it a challenge to recall all the places I’ve lived in on my journeyings in life. Nevertheless, God knew them in advance and always manifested his Presence !

    • Moses was inspired by the Holy Spirit to keep the records like that, and every detail is in there for a reason. For example, the number and form of the different camps of Israel while traveling from the air has been shown to form a giant cross. Here is a link to a video that explains it better than I could– it about 20 minutes into the video. It is quite fascinating.

  3. Thank You, Father God, for always being True and faithful and good, not just in what You do, but in Your very essence. We pray, in line with David’s mom, that the sin of corruption will find out the perpetrators in both Canada and the U.S. Forgive us of our sins; we are no better than anyone else – we all have sinned and come short of Your glory – but we ask for You to move in our countries. Bring people to repentance and bring Your own healing Presence here among us. As Benjamin Franklin said (paraphrased here), “If we called on God at our beginnings, what makes us think we no longer need Him? I move that we pray for Divine Help in our affairs.” Lord God, please have Your Way in us, through us, and among us, in Jesus’s great name, amen

  4. Amen!
Lord God there is so much tension, corruption, sickness and upheaval in this world (as Linda mentioned yesterday).
Like Rob prayed, we all fall short of Your Glory.
Father God, thank You that we may freely express our needs and concerns and cries of of our hearts, whatever they are.
May we humble ourselves and lift each other up, for we are Blessed to be one in You.

  5. I’m sorry Linda. I didn’t mean to discourage your comment, yesterday. We can all disagree about politics. It doesn’t mean we disagree about God being our sovereign grace and mercy or the greatness of His Word.
