Damascus Gate is the main entrance to the Old City of Jerusalem. It is located in the wall on the city’s northwest side where the highway leads out to Nablus, and from there, in times past, to the capital of Syria, Damascus. As such, its modern English name is Damascus Gate.

Key Verse: Genesis 35:1

Then God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there; and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.”

“Bethel,” “House of God,” “Dwell there,” is the best guarantee of living in the Presence of God. Anna (Luke 2:36-38), an 84-year-old widow, “did not depart from the Temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day” and was blessed with a revelation of who Jesus is when Jesus was just eight days old. It’s IMPORTANT to spend quality time in the House of God, “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together as the manner of some is” (Hebrews 10:25). It’s IMPORTANT, if at all possible, to get to Church this Sunday, and any other services the Church provides. Go “back to Bethel” again and again. “Bethel” is the place where, on most occasions, God reveals Himself to you. Like Jacob, “purify yourselves,” and “make an altar.” An altar is a place of consistently meeting with God. Your daily devotions, the family altar, the “House of God” will grant God the opportunity to speak to you, guiding the direction of your life.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord, like Jacob (Israel), reveal Yourself to me so that I may follow You into the land to which You have called me. By Your grace lead me by Your strong, protecting hand. I pray this in Jesus’ Name. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Today and tomorrow, I want to share some examples of comments left by some of your fellow blog readers:

God’s voice speaks to the listening heart! God loves “MAN” and spending time with MAN! “Morning, afternoon, night!” Yes, you may call it a MANifestation! ~ Connie

David, my husband and I have to make a very important financial decision today. Praying about it and while reading your blog the first thing I look at, “I am with you” “God listens.” What a mighty God we serve, cares for everything in our lives. Thank you again, David, for the daily blog. ~ Thelma

I have always found it harder to lay down my strengths than my weaknesses. Somehow we have to find that balance of allowing God into our “best laid plans of mice and men.” ~ Yeurgen

Thanks to all of you who have responded from day to day with such thoughtful comments,

David

  1. Praying David’s prayer. Such powerful scripture today. Troubled, as always, by the disrespect and use of women by men. We rely on a stronger God to sustain us. The victory in today’s scripture by our relationship with Him is clearly evident for Jacob, Esau, Isaac and their families. We serve an almighty God. Amen. Wishing all saints a blessed day in the Lord.

    I must perform my vows to you, O God;
    I will render thank offerings to you.
    For you have delivered my soul from death,
    yes, my feet from falling,
    that I may walk before God
    in the light of life. Amen.
    Psalm 56:12-13 ESV

    • Praying David’s prayer as well.
      Beverlee….your comments are always thought provoking, thank you for them…..agreeing with you.

      I believe that Jesus treated women in the Bible with respect and dignity, in a culture where they were not valued at all.

      • Indeed, Anne. Jesus was a totally different story in the new testament compared to the old, and meant to build women up through love value and respect. That is why they followed and so believed in Him. I also believe that is why it was Mary who was the first to see the angel telling her of Jesus’ resurrection in the cave, and Jesus appearing to her outside the tomb. God bless you, this day!

  2. There are more people reading this blog than those who comment.I sometimes feel God created it for me to get to know Him.In any event,I have gotten to know Him more each day.When I had my first knee replacement,I missed about 4-5 days without catching up.When I had my second knee replaced,I caught up with the days I missed as I did in any other days missed.This ministry has been a great blessing to me.Thank you Ron and Crossroads.May God bless(I still pray for total healing for Anne.)
    The Psalms were poems set to music but because of translation any rhymes were lost.I didn’t realize until just now that this short poem may be what God intended me to write?
    Inspired by Psalm 73:24-25
    With wise counsel Thou will guide me
    ‘Til in glory Thou make me free,
    For Who in heaven have I but Thee
    And with no mortal I choose but with Thee to be,
    For earthly strength may up and flee;
    But Thou be my portion for eternity.

  3. Deceit, rape and murder, in today’s scriptures; but God protected Jacob/Israel in it all.
    The Lord is our shield and rampart, a very present help in trouble.

    Thank you Ron and Ann for this blog where we are able to be fed the Lord’s daily bread; as well as share with each other our need, and pray for one another.
    Be blessed saints of the Lord
