SEEK THE LORD

Today’s Reading: Zephaniah 2

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion).

Today, 3,000 years after David fought Goliath in this valley of Elah, Israeli farmers plant crops here to feed their people. In ancient times Israel lived in the mountainous regions and the Philistines on the more productive farmland all the way to the sea coast. Today’s reading informs us of God’s future judgment on the Philistines and other nations which surrounded Israel.

Key Verses: Zephaniah 2:3, 10

Seek the Lord, all you meek of the earth,

Who have upheld His justice.

Seek righteousness, seek humility.

It may be that you will be hidden

In the day of the Lord’s anger.

…This shall they have for their pride,

Because they have reproached and made arrogant threats

Against the people of the Lord of Hosts.

“Righteousness,” “humility,” “pride,” and “arrogant threats” are contrasted in today’s reading! As people whose desire it is to be followers of Jesus, the One Who humbled Himself even to death on the cross, we must learn to be humble before God and people. Pride brings trouble! (Proverbs 13:10). Pride hardens hearts! (Daniel 5:20). Pride causes spiritual decay! (Hosea 7:9,10). Pride hinders our progress! (Proverbs 26:12). “Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18).

It seems that those who seek God and humble themselves before Him are in a perpetual minority. We must firmly resist cultural pressures to just go along with the crowd. For those who believe in the cross of Jesus, “the Lord’s fierce anger” (Zephaniah 2:2) has been born by Jesus as our Substitute. But what about those such as the nations around Israel and Judah who chose to remain in pride and arrogance rather than humbling themselves before God. It is a fact that the majority have it wrong. Jesus said that the “many” are headed for “destruction,” and the “few” for “life!” (Matthew 7:13-14).

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I pray for grace to live humbly before You and before people. You have promised that as I do this, You will lift me up. I thank You Jesus that You humbled Yourself even to death on the cross. I pray this in Your Name Jesus. Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

The “Standing Orders” from Jesus to His followers is printed on my T-shirt (pictures below). I must obey Him at all times. Sharing the News of Jesus with “All the world” is not optional for me!!! My wife and family feel the same way about their lives and time here on earth.

I am facing some major decisions regarding future ministry responsibilities. I need a breakthrough from Heaven concerning any days, weeks, and months during which God may spare the life of this almost 80 year old man!!! Perhaps I will be able to report about this in about two weeks, God willing!

Yours to participate in reaching the world for Christ!!!

David

  3. I prayed David’s prayer also this morning also.
Thank you Beverlee for sharing the music this morning. It was so beautiful.
Praying also for those in Nova Scotia and seniors in nursing homes that have been affected by the virus. My brother is one of them. Although he seems to be doing ok.
    God is good!

  4. I’m planning on dropping off a stuffed animal & some pictures for my sister in nursing home. It is not just those who contact the virus who suffer. It is every resident. They have to be quarantined in their rooms & the usual programs are cancelled. I have not seen my very disabled sister in 5 weeks. I would go most days to feed her & take her to events & now that has come to a stop. I miss her so much but put her in God’s hands through out the day. Beautiful worship today. Thanks Beverlee

    • Our mens’ group sang at local nursing homes for 40 years until this virus stopped us.I have a good idea of life there. We all miss it.Keep trusting in God,He knows better than all of us.God bless

    • Lord God, I bring my sister Doreen before Your Throne of grace. May you comfort her and give her peace and happiness of memories to hold onto as she misses her beautiful sister who is quarantined in the nursing home. We pray for her sister’s safety and are sure she is having all her immediate needs met. The gift of Alzheimer’s and related dementia, is that the person does not sense anything different, as I know first hand from my dear mom Jean having had the disease. But the pain here, Lord, is in Doreen feeling empty without giving her sister back the love she so needs to give, being there to spend time with her and to care for her. It is all about love God and we know as Your beloved saints, that is Your department of specialty. And so, we call on You and thank You for hearing our prayers. We ask for the Ruach breath of the Holy Spirit to breathe through Doreen and give her a sense of peace that passes all understanding until they can meet again. We ask You to hold them both ever so closely in Your divine Hands, Lord. In Jesus’ precious Name we pray, and give You all the glory and praise. Amen, amen, and amen. xoxo

      • Beverley: Agreeing with you in this wonderful prayer for dear Doreen and safely for her sister. I can only add that the Lord is merciful and He hears and answers our prayer. Thank you Lord we lLove and Trust You. You are the Rock of Ages, we cling to you in this time of sorrow and hardship for some. Bless all who read this blog and keep them in your care. Amen.

        • Praying along with you, Beverlee and Eleanor.
Praying God’s protection on all Nursing Home residents and staff. I pray healing for those who have contracted this terrible virus and ask that it will spread no further.
Comfort and sustain everyone who is unable to be with their loved ones because of social distancing. Oh Lord! We appeal to your mercy. This is a time of distress and You alone can help us. We trust and depend on you and are confident that You will not forget us.
God’s peace on all of you, dear brothers and sisters!

      • Thank you for the beautiful prayer Beverlee. Donna Lea was brain damaged from a fever of 106 F as an infant. She is like a child of mine more than a sister. I can place her in God’s hands throughout the day. Praise God. He is faithful.

  5. Dear Father God, thank You for this ministry, and for all of Your ministries throughout this world – those that reach out with Your Word, Your love, and Your help to a world in need of Truth and grace. Help us humble ourselves and follow You, Lord Jesus. Use all of us to help bring others to You.
Bless all the caregivers in their service to others. Help them to know You, the greatest caregiver of all. Use them to bring that cup of water to a thirsty soul, and bring Your living water to many today, Lord, we ask in Jesus’s loving name, amen

  6. Say Amen to David’s blog and all the beautiful posts this morning. Remembering all the families who suffered tragedy and tremendous loss in Nova Scotia. We got a heavy snowstorm last night and I have been out raking earlier. God bless you all saints!

  7. Agreeing with all of the beautiful prayers of each one on here today. Thank you for posting this beautiful song Beverlee, it is the very one that has been playing in my head all day ever since we heard some amazing news earlier today. A long-time friend of my husband, who now lives in the Yukon, has very recently been born again. He shared his powerful testimony to all his friends and family in the most beautiful email which we received this morning and read with tears of great joy! God is moving and working in people’s hearts in so many amazing ways in the midst of these difficult days. His light is shining ever brighter in the darkness!
Also, praying for you, Doreen, that you will experience the deep peace and comfort of our dear Lord during this time apart from your sister.
    Blessings on you all!
