THE BOILING POT

Today’s Reading: Ezekiel 24-25

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion).

This large boiling pot of beans is at the Mully Children’s Family in Ndalani Kenya. Through the years, much support has been given by our 100 Huntley Street viewers for the thousands of children cared for by Charles and Esther Mulli. This pot represents blessing, but Ezekiel’s pot in today’s reading represents judgment.

Key Verse: Ezekiel 24:14

“I, the Lord, have spoken it;

It shall come to pass, and I will do it;

I will not hold back,

Nor will I spare,

Nor will I relent;

According to your ways

And according to your deeds

They will judge you,”

Says the Lord God.

Ezekiel 24 has three illustrations which provide a picture of judgment. (1) The cooking pot. (2) The loss of Ezekiel’s wife. (3) Ezekiel has not spoken for some time, and now he speaks again. The reason for all this is found in verses 24b and 27b…that “you shall know that I am the Lord God!” Ezekiel’s knowledge of the future siege of Jerusalem (24:2) constitutes a confirmation of his genuine, God given, prophetic gift. Our key verse points to the fact that judgment is “according to your ways…your deeds, they will judge you!” The Judge on the bench simply recognizes facts and passes sentence accordingly. The people are their own worst enemy, bringing judgment upon themselves. It’s not God’s fault!

Ezekiel 25 points out that Israel is not alone in the destruction they’ve brought on themselves. Neighbouring countries also suffer the consequences of their sins.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I repent of my sin, and according to Your promise You forgive me (1 John 1:5-10, Psalm 51:1-4). I pray that I will turn 180 degrees away from sin. I realize that while I’m forgiven, sin still has its consequences in my life, my family, and my community. I cry out for purity of heart, mind and deeds. I do so in the Name of the only Person who never sinned, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I’ve just watched the movie, Son of God. The scene of Peter’s sin in denying that he even knew Jesus was so powerful. The producers may have been easy on Peter because, while the Scriptures say Peter “began to curse and swear,” I don’t think I heard the cursing and swearing (read Matthew 26:69-75). The events of Jesus’ life were there with great strength, even though the order of those events may have been changed somewhat. A movie producer must be given the leeway to cover the material as he or she (Mark Burnett and Roma Downey) see fit (for a 100 Huntley Street interview with this amazing husband and wife team, click here).

There’s also a new movie out on the resurrection of Christ called “RISEN.” Click here for info and trailers.

Yours in support of powerful visuals, as well as words, which, like Ezekiel’s word pictures (a boiling pot), convey “Truth!”,

David

  1. Praise to our Saviour, Jesus Christ, who never sinned. Thank You Heavenly Father for sending Your Son that we might be saved. Giving thanks and praise for Shammah Jolayemi’s safe return. God’s blessing on you, fellow saints.

  2. Lord God, this world is depraved, as corrupt as You showed Ezekiel. And there will be judgment on us. Canada seems to be very much like the world was in the time of Noah, oblivious to the fact that God is supreme. Please have mercy on us, Lord, and raise up Godly leaders who will help turn people back to You. You know how to do it, Lord, so please help all Your people to work together for Your Kingdom. In Jesus’s great name, amen

  3. Thank you Lord for answering our prayers by bringing Shammah home. You are an awesome God.
    I pray for those who are suffering pain, sorrow and loneliness today. I also pray for those of us who have loved ones that havn’t yet asked you to come into their lives.
    Draw them to yourself by your Holy Spirit , I pray this in the precious name of Jesus. Amen Eleanor M.

  4. Yes, so thankful for the safe return of the 14 yr old boy. In agreement with Rob’s prayer that God bring forth Godly people to bring the knowledge of Himself to this generation who are more and more less likely to hear about the Truth of God & His love for them. Blessings all.

  5. “74 Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know the man!”

    Immediately a rooster crowed. 75 Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.”
    I remember some tears while watching this movie and I think Peter’s tears were the trigger.Jesus,via the Father,created us so be designed and built in to our humanity the will to survive and knew it would likely over ride his loyalty to Jesus.That is why He sought out Peter after His resurrection.I will watch this again tonight.
    I was still about a year away from reading the bible when I wrote this.I never signed nor dated my poems until Facebook revealed a professional “author/poet” with the same name living in Ct,thus I added my initials too:
    Off The Cross

    They opened my flesh to the bone,
    Harder still when they heard no moan,
    As meat was torn from my ribs;
    For my clothes they claimed dibs.

    As the cross was still on the ground,
    A mother’s sobs were the only sound,
    My body ached in so much pain,
    From the whips that fell like rain.

    They drove the spike through my hand,
    As my Father’s shadow covered the land,
    Then they raised the cross up high
    To where my body would soon die.

    Each breath then came with bolts of pain
    As Satan sought this world to regain.
    But he knew I would do it again
    Just to break his worldly reign.

    That is why I broke the serpent’s sword
    And became your loving,willing Lord,
    For to step down off the cross,
    The world then would be My loss.

  6. Glad that the 14yr. old boy was restored to his home. Now Laura-Lynn Tyler Thompson needs prayer as she stands in the battle against the sex activists who do not defend parental rites and the vulnerability of children. Laura is calling for a 3 day fast and prayer(Fri-Sun) before they go to the Supreme Court in Vancouver on March 9, Monday. You can check her out on lauralynn.tv. My sister shared this with me yesterday. Unbelievable things happening like in Ezekiel’s day as you were saying saints.
