Key Verse: Psalm 27:1

The Lord is my light and my salvation;

Whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the strength of my life;

Of whom shall I be afraid?

Like diamonds when the light strikes the many facets, so is the content of these two Psalms given to us by God and His shepherd king David. Let us join David in his prayers. He prays, “Vindicate me – Examine me – Try my mind and my heart – Redeem me and be merciful to me – Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice – Have mercy upon me and answer me – Teach me Your way, O Lord.” He encourages us to – Walk in integrity – Walk in truth – Tell of all God’s wondrous works – Dwell in the house of the Lord – Behold the beauty of the Lord – Inquire in His temple – Wait on the Lord – Be of good courage!!! As a result of prayer and of taking courage from God, David can state, “I shall not slip – My foot stands in an even place – The Lord is the strength of my life – My heart shall not fear – I will be confident – I will sing praises to the Lord – The Lord will take care of me!”

Now, why not confess out loud the words of our key verse! Are we ready to face another 24 hours of life? Yes! Yes! Yes!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

O Lord, today I’m joining king David in his prayers. I’m making those prayers an integral part of my petitions to You! I wait on You Lord! You are strengthening my heart! Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I’m thinking just now of the absolutely essential elements of loving and serving God which David highlights for us. In the 1970s, the song, “You Light Up My Life,” sung by Debbie Boone, was at the top of the pop charts for weeks. As I chose the key verse, “The Lord is my Light,” I was thinking of Debbie as she sat in the Green Room preparing to go out on the set of 100 Huntley Street. I may have told this story in a previous blog, but she was in Toronto performing the role of Maria Von Trapp in “The Sound of Music” production in a local theatre. My contact with Debbie was through her dad, Pat Boone, who had been our guest several times. As we prayed together, Debbie began to cry. I heard her say, “O Lord Jesus, it’s been so long, so very long.” She had obviously been so preoccupied with her role in such a famous production that she had neglected having a daily experience of the Presence of God. One of my reasons for this daily blog is so that I will never have to say, “It’s been so very long.” My son Ron just told me that I wrote about Debbie Boone in a previous blog, and we linked to a 100 Huntley Street interview with her. In case you missed it, here it is again.

One more thing…out of the thousands of guests I’ve had the privilege of interviewing, there were several who quoted Psalm 27:10 as their personal experience, “When my father and mother forsake me, then the Lord will take care of me.” I cannot imagine what life would be like if I didn’t know that God is taking care of me!!!

Yours for getting to know God better each day,

David

  1. Lord God, thank You for these 100 words and more – the Psalms are prayers we can all relate to:

    “One thing I have desired of the Lord,
    That will I seek:
    That I may dwell in the house of the Lord
    All the days of my life,
    To behold the beauty of the Lord,
    And to inquire in His temple.
    For in the time of trouble
    He shall hide me in His pavilion;
    In the secret place of His tabernacle
    He shall hide me;
    He shall set me high upon a rock.”

    May all your people, Lord, know that You are there always, no matter what happens. You promised (and You never lie) that You will never leave us nor forsake us. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
    We pray for your guidance in this country. Keep raising up Godly people who will keep calling people back to the Truth and what really matters. Help people see through the fog of confusion and lies, and put their (our) trust in You.
    We ask in Jesus’s great name, amen

      • Agreeing with you Rob!
        Today’s 2 Psalms are wonderful prayers that we can pray daily. Good to memorize some of these verses.

        So good to hear from you, dear Beverlee! We all have missed you! Praying that the Summer has been a time of ““filling up” on God’s Word and being encouraged by His faithful promises. Praying that He will guide you and direct you in the days ahead. ❤️

        Teresa, we welcome you to this blog and pray that it will be a source of encouragement and spiritual strength .

        Praying a blessing on all of you, dear saints!

  2. We are strengthened by King David’s psalms, this morning. Our prayers are to You, Lord God–Prince of Peace, King of Kings. You are our strength. You are our rock. You are our salvation. To You, do we humbly bow and cry. Wishing all saints a blessed day in the Lord! May He bless you and keep you. May His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and grant you peace!

    His brightness was like the light;
    rays flashed from his hand;
    and there he veiled his power.

    • Nice to see you posting,Beverlee.God bless

      Inspired by Psalm 73:24-25
      With wise counsel Thou will guide me
      ‘Til in glory Thou make me free,
      For Who in heaven have I but Thee
      And with no mortal I choose but with Thee to be,
      For earthly strength may up and flee;
      But Thou be my portion for eternity.

      Idols

      If only we could see
      What our idols truly be,
      For blind are the eyes ne’er free
      Until they have called out to thee.

    • Nice to have you back Beverlee , I saw little Judah Wednesday. He is looking very well and his parents said the tumour hadn’t grown since his last checkup. He will be going to have another checkup soon, so I am praying that it is the same as last time. He is 2 now so it is 18 months since he was diagnosed. Blessings to all Eleanor M.

  3. That song was a favorite of mine for a long time.David was blessed with an ability to write beautiful words of praise and supplication straight from his heart.I write ‘some’ good poetry but it is far from his level.(The translators did very well conveying his thoughts too.)
    I had only just begun reading the bible via this blog when I wrote this.Obviously my poems are amateurish but the similarity to the Psalms is obvious even though I was not conscious of them.(It’s not the poem but the message/prayer.)God bless

    Search Me

    Search me,oh Lord,I’m yours,
    Remove the cobwebs that hide,
    Find out what my heart stores,
    Then put the wrong far to one side.

    Search again,oh Lord,for light,
    Let not darkness cloud my mind,
    That I may freely do what’s right,
    For I want a heart clean and kind.

    Search my soul,Oh Lord,for me;
    Don’t let me be vain and phony,
    For such get lost and can’t see,
    Then become the devil’s crony.

    Search my heart,oh Lord again,
    Leave no trace of greed within,
    Then I can show,without pain,
    The love betrayed by my sin.

  4. When I reflect on David’s psalms, we all know that he had many struggles in life, so we should not be surprised with ours as well. He also showed us who to turn to help us through them. David was trying to live a righteous life but sometimes he missed the mark. Welcome to this blogging group Theresa. Went to see the Christian movie, “Overcomer” last night which was so heart warming and clearly shows the change that God can make in a life. Need to keep praying for our loved ones and friends. Blessings saints!
