A view of the Dead Sea, also known as the Salt Sea. Somewhere in this vicinity of the valley of salt, the armies of Israel and Syria met in battle (2 Samuel 8:13).

Key Verse: 2 Samuel 9:7

So David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat bread at my table continually.”

In Chapter nine we see the Lord’s kindness to King Saul’s descendants. Saul’s grandson, Mephibosheth, had a son, thus preserving the family name and inheritance.
David was faithful to the covenant relationship into which he and Jonathan, Saul’s son, had entered, as recorded in 1 Samuel 20:14-16. How much more faithful will Jesus, the Seed of David, be to the covenant He has made with His loved ones. That’s us! — we who believe in Him. Jesus’ new covenant is described in Hebrews, chapters 8 & 9. We may want to find that in our Bibles to read and meditate on Jesus’ faithfulness.
Twice in our reading it is mentioned that Jonathan’s son was “lame in his feet.” Those feet were placed under David’s table continually. This was grace…unmerited favour from David. Jesus has placed our feet under His table, seating us in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:4-9). Our lameness is covered, and we sit at the table of the King. God has “blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3).

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, You not only place our feet under Your table, You have set an example of washing Your disciples’ feet. I pray that, by Your enabling strength, I will do a better job of washing the feet of others, as their servant, in a variety of ways. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

On Palm Sunday we celebrate the anniversary of the day Jesus fulfilled the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9 (click here). Jewish people were coming to Jerusalem by the thousands from all over the world to celebrate Passover. They knew the prophecies well and the reputation of Jesus. They shouted “Hosanna,” which means “save now” (Matthew 21:1-11). No doubt, many believed that Jesus was about to overthrow and declare Himself an earthly king, freeing Israel from the rule of Rome. Matthew would show us that Jesus’ commitment was meeting the needs of people like “Mephibosheth,” rather than sitting on an eartlhly throne.  I believe God has spoken to me about a “Mephibosheth” for whom I should show more love and practical service.

Yours for placing feet under the King’s table, because of His amazing grace,

David

  1. Such a blessed message, scripture, and prayer, this morning. Your love is so enduring, Lord God. We are your earthly servants and we serve You with a grateful heart for all You have done for us. We praise You on high, Lord. You are our everlasting King and we are ever so grateful to be Yours. Wishing all saints a blessed day in the Lord. May it be a warm day full of simple joys and surprises!

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Ephesians 2:8 NKJV

I agree with you, such a blessed message this morning, David’s blog always challenges me to look up and try to live closer to God!

    • Thank you, Anne. David’s guidance is with us. He always inspired us by God’s Word and was a great living example. Amen.

      • and still is through this bible study/blog.

        All The Way.

You have been a light to many,
You sought to make them free,
And through the years of plenty
        You served me so faithfully.

I know you wanted to stay,
I need you more now than they,
So I brought you home that day,
Now you’re with Me all the way.

Your light shone so bright and so far
When you heard me and obeyed,
Now your torch is their bright star,
        From one who never delayed.

Faith will keep your light shinning bright
And love will feed the flame,
So the world can see His light,
The One who took all our blame.

Hallelujah! We have reason to rejoice!

  4. I have had to keep my foot elevated above my heart (It sometimes gets in my mouth, lol.) because I bumped my shin against a steel ramp over a week ago which caused bleeding under the skin. It’s getting better. That is why I have been slowly digesting the scripture and the blog and so late commenting.
I get lost searching through Robin Mark’s songs. It’s impossible to pick even a few favorites but this is one.Enjoy this worship.God bless

    You (4 Pst.David Mainse)

While I have served You my life through,
I learned to love You as I grew,
And then one day I suddenly knew
That all my strength came from You.

I hid no secret from Your eyes,
Nor did I create scornful lies,
For it’s only a fool who denies
Your truth that his heart defies.

You were my strength when I was weak,
You gave me sight so I could seek,
And it was You when amongst the meek
That gave the words I should speak.

You were and are not just my God,
    But also my lowly Friend,
And all the while I’m above the sod,
I’ll serve You ’til my life’s end.

Alas that time is now at hand,
And I can hardly wait to leave,
So I pray,Lord, let them understand
And know my joy as they grieve.

I’ll see them on the other side,
For their home also waits with You,
And we,the church, will become the bride
With a joy we never knew.

  5. If you can, imagine this woman, me, shouting from the mountain top, PRAISING and THANKING our wonderful and awesome Father for being with my son this morning.
My son, Chris was on his way home from work when he was t- boned by another vehicle. He was pushed into the ditch and his truck rolled a couple of times.
My daughter-in-love called with this news at nine this morning . Chris was able to talk to me on the phone. I sure was relieved.
He had a cat scan and he has no injuries, praise God. He is bruised and a few scrapes. The air bags deployed and his truck had an automatic shut off. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured as well.
I told Chris through my tears, I’m so glad I prayed for him that morning.
I just had to share my praise report with you all.

We were so greatly blessed this morning.

Chris is an Afghanistan war vet. I pray his ptsd will not be troublesome for him after this accident.
I am so grateful, Lord. Thank you.

    • Praise God your son Chris, is okay, Nan. God’s angels are around him. The power of prayer, so divine, to cover us with His wings. Also, that the other driver was okay. Amen. Praying for the healing of Chris’ bruising. Thank you for sharing this with us. God bless you!
