A MAN AFTER GOD’S HEART

Today’s Reading: 1 Samuel 13

A rectangular ritual bath (mikveh/baptismal tank) has been recently uncovered just beneath the southern wall of the Temple Mount in the Jerusalem Archaeological Park. You can see the Mount of Olives in the background.

Key Verses: 1 Samuel 13:13-14

And Samuel said to Saul, “You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of the Lord your God, which He commanded you. For now the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. But now your kingdom shall not continue. The Lord has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.”

Understanding and obeying God’s Word is of eternal importance. Jesus said, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My Word shall never pass away” (Matthew 24:35). God’s Word is forever! God’s Word has the power to do good, heal, bring judgment, and to save. The Word is like the laws of nature. King Saul failed to obey what he knew were God’s instructions, and now he must suffer the consequences. God would choose another King who would be careful to obey both the letter and the spirit of the instructions he received. By believing and doing God’s Word, we, like David, who is yet to come onto the scene, will experience the blessing of God. David would keep God’s Word and the result was that he became the father of an eternal dynasty through his Descendant, Jesus Christ.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I pray that You’ll help me to wait for You. My natural tendency, like Saul, is to be impatient and to run ahead of You, but Your supernatural grace to do what is right is available to me when I wait upon You. You meet me every morning as I read Your Word and pray. I can always count on Your timing. Thank You for the peace and joy this brings me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Yes Jesus loves me. The Bible tells me so!!! “FACT!!!” One day last week I read the entire book of Matthew over a period of three hours. Forty-one times either Jesus or Matthew quote from their Bible, the Hebrew language Scriptures. This is true Kingdom of God teaching/preaching!!! Oh, how I long to be a man after God’s heart. This is just another reason for this blog! I need to focus more and more on the “More sure Word” (2 Peter 1:19) and less on the thoughts of mere men which are not solidly and clearly founded on God’s revealed written Word!!!

My New Testament reading for today is Philippians 4:4-9.

Yours for grace to “meditate on these things,” (Read Philippians 1:15-18),

David

  1. And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts (Peter 1:19). Let that sink into your bones, fellow saints in the Lord. It gives us such hope. Wishing you all a blessed day, for our Lord reigns! .

I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me.
I have set the Lord always before me, because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Psalm 16:7-8 ESV

  2. Presumption is a real snare. We are always intended to be Disciples ( followers ) of the Lord and His Word and He WILL provide specific Encouragement and Authority. However, we must be certain that we do not attempt to move ‘in front’ of Him, because He ever intends us to FOLLOW. After all, He is the Way and the Pathfinder. We’ll make mistakes as we learn, but must humbly acknowledge such and He’ll be patient and gracious with us. I’m being encouraged to follow along a certain path right now, and am walking most carefully to ensure that He is ALWAYS in front , leading the way.

  3. May those of Your choosing be sent forth in Alberta, Lord. Magnify Yourself in Alberta and in all the earth. Open our ears & enable our eyes to see and hear clearly. Draw us closer Lord. Thank You.

  4. Lord TY for this day and all its blessings! Lord You know what kind of governments we need; it was not that long ago that Alberta was governed under Premier E. Manning who was also a Pastor; Alberta flourished for a few decades; Social Credit was very good to the children, the seniors and those who could not help themselves and having a Premier who was a Christian and who was guided by God brought good things to the people. I grew up on a farm and my parents & grandparents were Christian and life was good….Lord You know what Alberta needs; You know the right person to lead this Province to a merciful, gracious, peaceful path with You our Lord God leading and guiding the leaders and the people. We thank You in Jesus Name amen

  5. Lord can’t get through to the prayer line;
Lord I have a room with a single bed;a small fridge;micro/wave, cable; bath, own entrance for busy working mature person;non smoking/drinking/no pets;no parties;must be responsible;respectful;hard working person;A Christian would be fine;must like using the pool for exercise & showering;can use my kitchen to cook meals; Lord You know all; I pray You will send the right person, in Jesus Name I Pray
TY for healing Carol; remove ALL cancer from Susan and Jim; TY Lord for all the blessings of this day
TY for nice neighbours; God bless them keep them healthy; TY for this day amen

  6. Yes, we so often are impatient, and run ahead of the Lord; or don’t wait to hear what He has planned for the Day!
The Day He created in which we can rejoice and be glad in it, all we have to do is to listen and obey; for the Joy of the LORD, is our strength, and a refuge for our soul! Praise His Mighty Holy Name! Amen!
