The present-day entrance to the historic village of Capernaum. The sign reads “Capernaum The Town of Jesus.”

Key Verse: Matthew 15:9

And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.

The third commandment (Exodus 20), “You shall not take the Name of the Lord your God in vain,” includes worship not founded solidly on a true understanding of God’s Word. Moses, upon his descent from Sinai, discovered the people worshipping with the practices of the religion of Egypt. Satan went into the religion business because he wanted to be worshipped. What Lucifer failed to receive in Heaven, he convinces men to invent on earth. The ancient temples of Egypt were an effort to copy the approach to God in Heaven with “the god of this world” depicted by an image in the inner chamber. Daily, daily, daily read God’s Word.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Dear Lord Jesus, I worship God in Your Name with an ever-increasing understanding of the Scriptures. I read, mark, inwardly digest the written Word, the Bible. You promised the “Spirit of truth ” will guide me into all Truth (John 16:13). I ask now for that guidance as I meditate on Your Word. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

In my first year of Bible College, I was required to memorize 50 Bible verses. I had learned memory verses in Sunday School, but this was different. I was required to quote all 50 verses one after the other. I’ll never forget the aftermath of that exercise. I took my Bible and hugged it to my heart, walking up and down the hall, worshipping God for the gift of His precious Word. The Holy Spirit transferred the Word from my head only, deeply into my innermost being. The result? “Your Word have I hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You” (Psalm 119:11).

Yours for a pure heart,

David

P,S. This Sunday is Father’s day. I’ve just read John 4:20-24. The pictures below are from when I preached on Father’s Day in 2014. Looking back to pleasant, God-blessed days is an encouragement.

Preaching the Father’s Day service at The Church on the Queensway in Toronto in 2014.

Myles’ dad, Todd Neilson and Papa, Bruce Stacey, were on the platform with me as I presented Myles with a special book from his Great-Grampa. The book contains 50 responses from my blog partners to Myles’ question (see blog posting from August 28, 2013).

Myles loves his new book from Great-Grampa!

  1. Remembering that time and all of us who responded to Myles’ question. May these letters continually be a blessing to Myles’ heart. Remembering my Dad today and how God answered prayer and he prayed the sinner’s prayer on his death bed. Trust you have a good day fellow bloggers.

  2. I have no idea what this means:
26 But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”

27 And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”

The lady is worried sick about her demon-possessed daughter and talk like this comes into play somehow. Praise the Lord the lady knew what Jesus meant.

God bless all saints and praying for the Trinity Western University issue.

    • Hi Lynda…I hope this helps

Jesus’ ministry was to the House of David…to the Jews first.
That is who Jesus is referring to when he says “it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs”

The Lay was not of the House of David …she was not a Jew.

  3. Dog was a term commonly applied to Gentiles because the Jews considered these pagan people no more likely than dogs to receive God’s blessing. Jesus was not degrading the woman by using this term, He was reflecting the Jewish attitude so as to contrast it with his own. She agreed to be considered a dog as long as she could receive God’s blessing for her daughter.
Many Jews would lose God’s blessing and salvation because they rejected Jesus, and many Gentiles would find salvation because they recognized and accepted Jesus

  4. Lord God, have mercy on our country. Please help us to open our eyes to our need for You. You gave Jesus, your own dear Son, to die for our sins, yet we can’t even see or acknowledge our sin. Please help us to turn to You. Bless all your workers, Lord, and guide us all into loving and serving You and others. In Jesus’s name, amen

Tomorrow is the March for Jesus in Calgary. Please pray that God will pour out His Spirit on all the participants, the onlookers, and the city. Thank you.

    • Lord Jesus in agreement to Rob’s pray, I ask that your pour out Your Spirit on all the participants, the onlooker, and the city. I pray for your protection over all involved, Amen!!

  5. The joy on your Gr-grandson Myles’ face says it all. How precious a gift he received from his Gr-grandpa”.

So blessed to read David’s testimonies and these pictures that are part of his life memories. Thank you Ron and Ann for continuing to bring this fresh manna to us daily!!

In today’s scripture Jesus leads the way in feeding the crowd with fresh manna. And they all were full with some left over.
In the Lord’s prayer ….we pray “give us this day our daily bread”

  6. we are sinners saved by God’s GRACE, God’s Riches at Christ’s Expense, now we are saints forever!
yep, Ain’t That Just Like the Lord!
Yes pray for Trinity Western University, again, this is all so “nuts”
we have Christian Schools, why not a Christian University? Imagine, if a student became a lawyer with a degree from Trinity University, don’t you think that the person who hires this lawyer will have a person who understands that we are sinners saved by grace! I can only dream of how the court cases would go and another thing!!!!! Just Imagine if a person has a Christian lawyer, how that would be such a witness to someone………
Lord You know what is going on, I pray that students could go to Trinity Western University and obtain their degrees and go about their life helping loving and helping others……
    Blessings to all …….
