OBADIAH’S VISION

Today’s Reading: Obadiah

In Petra, Jordan, this massive façade, 30m wide and 43m high, is carved out of the sheer, dusky pink rock-face and dwarfs everything around it. The engineering genius of the ancient people who lived here is awe inspiring. Petra was the capital city of the Edomites. In today’s reading the prophet Obadiah denounces Edom for her pride. Secure in their impregnable fortress city, the Edomites felt that they were beyond the danger of invasion or conquest.

Key Verses: Obadiah verse 17

But on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance,

And there shall be holiness;

The house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.

The Edomites were descended from Esau, the twin brother of Jacob, sons of Isaac and Rebekah (read Genesis 25:19-23). Rebekah “went to inquire of the Lord.” This expectant mother was aware that the twins were struggling in her womb and she prayed about it. “The Lord said to her: ‘Two nations are in your womb…the older shall serve the younger.'” Obadiah’s prophecy confirms what God said to Rebekah, that Edom (Esau) would serve Israel (Jacob). Mount Zion (Jerusalem) is the capital city of the descendants of Jacob.

Obadiah predicts that the proud people of Edom would be humiliated. In the day of Jerusalem’s calamity, Edom had gloated and even surrendered Israelite fugitives to the enemy. Edom was guilty of flagrant injustice. “The day of the Lord” is a time of reckoning for all nations.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I pray that I will be found walking in “holiness,” ready for “the day of the Lord!” May the laws enacted by our nations reflect Your “Holiness”, Lord Jesus! I pray for our leaders. Grant them grace, I pray, to serve You and all people in righteousness. May our leaders be made aware that the nations are being judged in Your courtroom! Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I marvel at the homes and public buildings carved from the solid rock in Petra. Today it is not a proud capital city; it’s a tourist destination, a most impressive relic of an ancient powerful nation. King Abdullah of Jordan was in New York City, and no doubt he was intent on promoting tourism, which is a mainstay in the economy of his country, when I had the privilege to meet him at the Mayflower Hotel. As we visited I mentioned that my son-in-law covered his country several times each week on TV in the Arabic language. The King said, “What is his name?” “Rev. Nizar Shaheen,” I answered. With a surprised look on his face, the king said, “Nizar is a great man of God. I watch him on TV regularly.” It occurred to me that the king might have been tempted to say this for tourism’s sake, so I asked him, “On what channel do you watch Nizar?” He knew all the details, so I concluded he really did watch the message of God’s Word as Nizar and his guests present Jesus as Saviour and Lord!

The Crossroads ministry launched the Light For All Nations Arabic language ministry over 30 years ago. We were able to do this because of the prayers and support of God’s people (click here for more about Light For All Nations).

Yours for shining the Light of Jesus around the world,

David

  1. Yes, indeed, praying for all leaders of our nations–that they be guided by You Lord God and humbled to their knees. Looking back at the blog two years ago, I hope you still read the blog, Don Stubbs. I no longer attend the church I was at in 2016, nor believe in the preaching of Bill Johnson from Bethel Church in Redding, California. Thank you for your prayers for me and for sharing your insight. God has had me centered at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Bloomfield, ON for the past year, under the incredible leadership of my Pastor, Peter Spragg. You can hear his sermons on-line. Ever so blessed by our Bible study groups, delving deeply into the Word, incredible worship and fellowship. Thanks again for your prayers, Don Stubbs, and fellow saints. Blessings to all for a special day in the Lord. We worship YOU!

At that time I will gather you; at that time I will bring you home. I will give you honor and praise among all the peoples of the earth when I restore your fortunes before your very eyes,” says the LORD. Zephaniah 3:20 NIV

    • Amen Beverlee…thank for the link…Unfortunately I did not see the movie; not going to theaters these days.

      • Actually, I am going this afternoon, Irene. Sorry to hear you no longer frequent movies. Friends from church have gone and said it is excellent. God’s blessings on you, today, Irene.

        • The reason I don’t go to theaters is that not too many of my friends go either, not because we have anything against movies or movie theaters, but because stairs are not easy to climb. Also finding ones way around can be a problem.
I’m glad youre going, be blessed!!

  2. A timely testimony Beverlee as our now small group is having a meeting tonight about the future and health of our church. I am very concerned so would you please pray for me fellow bloggers. This blog by our beloved David Mainse and now posted by Ron Mainse has developed such an appreciation for the Word of God that any lack in our services makes me deeply concerned. Glad the Lord led you Beverlee to a good church. Heard Rev. Michael Youssef say lately, “Preach the Word and everything else will fall into place.” Amen. They all have their place.
“The grass withers; the flower fades: but the Word of our God shall stand forever.(Isaiah 40:8).

    • Amen Ger…I pray for the Lord’s intervention with your church, for His outcome! I pray for peace of mind for you Ger, at this time and always!!

    • Lord God, our Heavenly Father, Saviour Jesus Christ, and to the sanctity of the Holy Spirit, we bring our sister Ger’s Church before You and ask for Your intercession and blessing upon it. That Your Will be done, Lord God.

Agreeing with Irene for your peace, Ger. Be still, your heart, and trust in Him.

    • Yes Ger I heard Pastor Youssef say that line also…..He’s right….. BUT IT IS THE HOLY SPIRIT that straightens things out and that includes our words…..I ever so thankful for the Holy Spirit and for all the bloggers and for the Mainse family for listening to God to tell them to share the Gospel with the world!
      WHAT A BLESSING!

The prayer lines are still blocked! It’s a message only and its cold and so impersonal…..Lord what is going on? Please unlock this prayer line! TY Lord in Jesus Name we Pray amen

      • The prayer lines are not blocked; there is no message; they are open 24/7. I just called to check, confirmed with the lovely prayer person who answered and prayed with me for this misinformation to be corrected on the blog. Perhaps you are calling the wrong phone number, Sah:

        24/7 PRAYER: 1-866-273-4444

  3. What a wonderful message Sheen gave when you click at the end of today’s 100 Words. This message in so many languages is such a blessing and so clear to understand.

God bless all the programs produced at Crossroads. We appreciate all the time and effort to continue this blog also.

  4. Found a great quote on praying for Syria and its disastrous situation:

Albert Einstein: “True peace is not merely the absence of war but the presence of justice, of law, of order—in short, of government.” Pray for justice in Syria. Pray for wisdom for the world’s leaders as they respond. Pray for an end to this horrific violence and for lasting peace in this war-torn country.

    Amen.

    • I pray God changes the hearts of our leaders. Please Lord, give our leaders wisdom & grace to lead well. It is a difficult job, & without You & Your guidance, they are lost. Please guide them, humble them, & bring them to the point of recognizing their need of You. I pray that You, dear Lord God, will forgive us & bring us -Your people as well as all the nation- back to You. May You truly have dominion over this land, from sea to sea and to the ends of the earth. In Jesus’s name, amen

    • amen Lynda, amen! yes let us pray around the clock for our leaders! We pray in Jesus Name that the devil will not get a hold of any of the leaders nor harm them or their families! We pray for the Triune God to enter in the hearts of the world leaders, and the people in this world and in Jesus Name we rebuke the devil from every corner, from all governments, from all the homes, schools, churches, grocery shops;coffee shops, from all business offices, from all alcohol drinking places; we thank the Triune God for removing all evil, we thank You dear Lord, forgive us our sins as we forgive those who have sinned against us, amen amen amen

  5. Viewing today’s photo; I’m amazed what they were able to accomplish without all the amazing equipment available today. An in most cases the building are not half as ornate or well built.
I Watched 100Huntley Street this morning and was pleased that they continued to give tribute to the Hombolt tragedy; and to pray for their needs; remembering those in hospital as well.
In today’s scripture the emphasis was on God’s judgement of the proud.
And I prayed the prayer as well; concern for Canada and its leaders, for God’s intervention that this nation be a nation under God!

    • amen Irene amen! In the Name of Jesus Christ our Risen Lord and Saviour we rebuke all evil from our governments; we pray for our Saviour to give leaders discernment, wisdom, sound judgment;the right words, supportive family, community
In Jesus Name we Pray amen

  6. Thank you Irene, Beverlee and Eleanor. Felt the effect of your prayers. God bless you. Amen Lynda and Rob. I am very concerned for this nation and leaders.
