DAY UNTO DAY

Today’s Reading: Psalms 19-20

A beautiful sunrise over the Sea of Galilee. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork (Psalm 19:1).

Key Verses: Psalm 19:1-3

The heavens declare the glory of God;

And the firmament shows His handiwork.

Day unto day utters speech,

And night unto night reveals knowledge.

There is no speech nor language

Where their voice is not heard.

Francis Collins, physician, scientist, and leader of the successful project to map the human genome, wrote in his book, Belief, the following statement: “These arguments from the observed order of the universe are compelling [he has just stated scientific reasons as to why he is a believer in the Creator God], but they say little about whether such a “creator” God would be interested in human beings.” King David, inspired by the Creator God, acknowledges that the heavens and the earth, the universe itself, speak in every language to all people everywhere! Then David points all who hear or sing Psalm 19 to the fact that God is “interested in human beings.” God has communicated to us in the “law,” and in “testimony” (19:7). God has given us “statutes” and “the commandment” (19:8). These verses teach us that the Word of God not only communicates the thoughts of God, but they bring conversion, wisdom, rejoicing, and enlightenment!

These are the reasons for this blog! When we grasp the fact that God wants us to know Him (not just knowledge of His physical universe, but to know Him and His thoughts), we can begin to understand that God’s Words in His Book are, “more to be desired than gold,” “sweeter than honey,” and “in keeping them there is great reward” (19:10-11).

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, Psalm 20 uses the word “may” seven times as a prayer. May King David’s written words be my prayer too, dear Lord, as I make them personal to me. I believe that You do “answer in the day of trouble;” You do “help… strengthen… remember… fulfill all your (my) purpose” (for my existence). Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

In the 1990s, Crossroads published eight books, one for each season over a two-year period. The titles of all of these books were, Day unto Day, taken from Psalm 19:2. They had the same purpose as this blog, i.e. getting the Word of God into the hearts and minds of people everywhere on a daily basis. Two of our team members at the time wrote the daily commentaries. Rev. Nizar Shaheen covered the Hebrew Scriptures (the Old Testament), and Rev. Jim Cantelon covered the Greek Scriptures (the New Testament). Simultaneously with the publication of these books, Jim and Nizar gave daily teachings on each Bible reading on television. These TV segments were filmed on locations as close as possible to the Biblical sites where the events described in the Bible took place. As the host of 100 Huntley Street, I arranged for these to be carried daily. We repeated them twice over a four-year period. We found in our video archives the Day Unto Day segment from 1991 for today’s reading, Psalms 19-20 (click here to watch… I just noticed a bit of a surprise at the end!).

Also I must thank God for Psalm 19 particularly, as it was verses 1 & 2 which God used in 1977 to confirm to me that Crossroads was to add a DAILY live voice to our weekly TV productions of Crossroads and Circle Square for children. That daily live voice was named after the address of the studio building in downtown Toronto, “100 Huntley Street.” Now, for over 40 years on daily TV, “day unto day” and “night unto night,” there has been a voice speaking words about God (we’re well over 10,000 programs!). We’ve also done productions in 18 languages which have been seen on TV in over 50 countries, and now with the internet, our content is available everywhere. We have graduates of our School of Broadcasting in over 80 countries, and in many of these areas our grads are producing television in a variety of languages which take “their words to the end of the world” (Psalm 19:4).

Yours for listening daily and nightly to our communicating God,

David

P.S. Ron here again. Thank you for your kind blog comments and prayers for Dad… keep it up! He remains in hospital in a serious, declining condition. Dad has often said, “I’m indestructible until the Lord is finished with me… and if He is finished with me here on Earth, I don’t want to be around one minute longer… I want to be with Him!” God is in control!

  1. Amen to the Psalms, this morning, and stunning photo, Reynold. We love you, dear David. Thank you Ron, for reading your dad our comments and prayers for him. Lord God, bestow upon David, Your blessing for a return home to victory to see Your sweet shining Face, that he may not suffer on earth any longer. Love to all the Mainse family and dear saints in the Lord.

  2. Thank you so much David and family for this blog and all you do and have done. I am praying for you all. Much love is sent your way

  3. Dear David and Ron and family,
    Thank you for the reminder re Day unto Day. I watched the video then got my copy of the book and reread Nizar’s entry re Ps 19, noting that back in 1991 I had placed a bookmark and marked his comments re the heavens and God’s Holy Law as “sources through which we can come to know God. The first is a universal witness which brings mankind to believe in the existence of |God. The second leads one to a deeper and more personal revelation of God.” I also marked his comments about David’s prayer (19:12-14) and the Lord’s Prayer: “Mankind needs to continually pray for God’s strength and sanctification, for although he can never be sinless, he can strive to be blameless by not allowing sin to have dominion over his life.” These words are a powerful testimony to all human beings of the reality of God and of his interest in and provision for each of us to live God-touched lives. Thank you for the original message and for today’s reminder.
    My prayers for strength and healing and blessing and all that God wishes for you and each member of your extended families continue, and I intend to raise your situations in our church’s Chapel healing service at 12:15 today. God bless you all.

  4. Gracious loving God, we are so grateful for the many decades of leadership that David has given us, reminding, exhorting, pleading to us all to turn from sin and follow Jesus. We know there are thousands already in heaven who are there because they heard the Word from David and his guests on Huntley Street. There will be great rejoicing when David joins them! I pray for Norma Jean at this difficult time of bedside vigil. Give her strength, courage and faith as she continues to love and comfort her life’s partner. I pray for Reynold, Elaine, Ellen and Ron as they watch and pray for their father. And for the extended family, may each one follow in the footsteps of this most faithful servant of the Lord. Thank you dear Jesus for the countless blessings we have received through David. Amen

  5. Love to you all. Family is, and has, ministering as Jesus would have, if He was walking the earth today. Thank you all and blog folk as well.

  8. Praising God for David as he journeys through to a new and glorious body at God’s control.May love surround him. Our human desire is for him here in strength but my hearts desire is for the gentle presence of God through the Holy Spirit to divinely bathe him in God’s glory.

  10. Ron and Ann – thank you for continuing to post this blog and for keeping us blog readers updated! Praying for peace for your whole family! Thanks for the link to the Day unto Day videos – I grew up watching them when I could. I have one of the book series that was passed to me when my father went to be with Jesus 16 years ago. I remember him reading them. So thankful for this blog! I had never read through the Bible completely (lots of starts but no completions) until the first year Pastor David did this blog. Thank you! God bless you all!

    We pray for Norma Jean as she daily sits with the love of her life at this very difficult time. Our prayer is that Reynold, Elaine, Ellen, Ron and their partners and children will feel the strong arm of the Lord holding them up with comfort and love during this difficult time. God Bless each one. I write this with tears as David has been such a blessing to so many.

  13. Lakemount church in Grimsby is praying for you David that God would continue to use you till the very end. Reynold and Cathy were here yesterday at the women’s conference at Lakemount and Reynold gave the church the report on David’s condition and we began to pray and to praise GOD for David Mainse. It’s not over until GOD says it’s over. Memories flooded our minds yesterday as it seemed like yesterday but it was in the 80’s when you, David, came into the campgrounds at Arden Ontario to visit each campsite and encourage campers. We were 2 of those campers along with our 2 boys who gave their lives to JESUS, thanks to your ministry and your visits encouraged us so much that we went on to become ministers here in the Niagara area and missionaries to India. Bless you, bless you our brother as we continue to believe GOD on your behalf. “There was a man sent from GOD who’s name is David Mainse”.

  14. Lord God I THANK YOU for David Mainse!! Thank You for his blog which has blessed me and countless others. Thank You for his life and using him to bless countless others.

  19. I thank God for David and all your family. You are a blessing to so many. May God strengthen you all and keep you in His very special and loving care. Thank you, thank you, thank you, as David would say. I have always loved his optimism, kindness, honesty, and his joyful and unshakable faith.

  20. My prayers for Pastor David’s complete healing. I was fortunate to accompany Norma Jean and David on their 2010 tour in Israel. I learned a great deal from both of them. Pastor David is a very great man who has done many things that I could only dream to do. Children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have received an enormous inheritance by just being in his presence.
    Truly a man of God.
    I wish you all every spiritual Blessing today and every day

  21. My husband and I had the pleasure of meeting David and Norma Jean at the Kanata Baptist church almost 10 years ago, when we were newly married and hadn’t yet had children. They were gracious and kind. David prayed for me by email on another occasion and God answered our prayers to provide me with healing from chronic pain. My husband and I have been blessed by this blog, 100 Huntley Street, and the Crossroads ministry. Our prayers go out to the Mainse family and we are especially thinking of and praying for David as he is in the hospital. Thank you, Ron for the updates. You are all loved!

  22. James 5:14-15New King James Version (NKJV)

    14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

  23. Dear Ron Mainse

    I have been blessed by your Father Ministry and his personal massages on a daily basis through 100 Huntley Street. Since I have become Christian in 2000 from Muslim background. You all have become my family, and true inspiration to serve our Master and Saviour Jesus Christ. I am praying for your dad everyday to finish God’s work in his life in a glorious way. I have learned a lot from all of you, but mostly from David Mainse the boldness and perseverance in serving Christ.
    One of my dreams is to meet with your dad one day, and become a consistent and dedicated partner in your ministry, and serve with the prayer’s lines in Arabic for those who has the language barrier but speaking only Arabic.

  24. You have given us so much inspiration and insight David by the very life you have lived. Peace, Grace and Honour be with you during this time in your life, here, now and always! ✝

  25. I have followed your blog postings from the first day, it is what I do when I awaken each morning. To you dear David Mainse, I send my gratitude and prayers for peace in this season of life. Thank you for giving to me encouragement and strength through the Word. I met you in White Rock, B.C., when you traveled across Canada, and was struck with emotion as I shook your hand. I felt it was the closest I had come to touching the hand of an angel.

  26. Dear David, want to remind you of how you have blessed me over the years, 100 Huntley St, especially when I was caring for my mother; household salvation; how it encouraged me to believe for the salvation of my father. Dad before he was saved would cast his eye over to the screen when Simon Cameron came on and told his testimony; the prayer line which I called on occasion, attending the opening of the new building with my 81 year old mother, meeting you in Grand Falls, NB and having my photo taken with you, and taking a tour with you and Norma Jean and Ron and Ann in 1915 to Israel which was one of my dreams. Also giving you a big hug at Toronto airport and you told me I was special because of my name Ger to which I responded,” YOU ARE SPECIAL!” Also this 100words.ca blog and your faithful prayers for all your blogging friends. You have blessed my life and countless others. Tearfully I say, God bless you my friend. A great reward awaits you! Prayers and blessings. Ger

  28. Get well David Mainse. Why should you go before Jesus returns? If it is to spare his best from the time that is coming, may you see Jesus as Stephen saw him.

  29. God has given me the words” I prayed for you from your own blog “May the Lord answer you in the day of trouble;
    May the name of the God of Jacob defend you;
    2 May He send you help from the sanctuary,
    And strengthen you out of Zion;
    3 May He remember all your offerings,
    And accept your burnt sacrifice. Selah
    4 May He grant you according to your heart’s desire,
    And fulfill all your purpose.
    5 We will rejoice in your salvation,
    And in the name of our God we will set up our banners!
    May the Lord fulfill all your petitions.
    6 Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed;
    He will answer him from His holy heaven
    With the saving strength of His right hand.
    7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses;
    But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.
    8 They have bowed down and fallen;
    But we have risen and stand upright.
    9 Save, Lord!”
    May the King answer us when we call.” https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=psalms%2019-20&version=NKJV

    God had placed a wonderful, seems like last, and huge mission To David Mainse of spreading His word through the blog etc. It is said that His word is a lamp onto our feet and a light onto our path….that His word will never return void.
    I pray for blessings and grace in this time.
