Pictured here is one of the Majestic entrances to Jerash Jordan. Recent excavations show that Jerash was already inhabited during the Bronze Age (3200 BC – 1200 BC). After the Roman conquest in 63 BC, Jerash and the land surrounding it was annexed by the Roman province of Syria and later joined the Decapolis cities (mentioned in Matthew 4:25 and Mark 5:20). In AD 90, Jerash was absorbed into the Roman province of Arabia, which included the city of Philadelphia (modern day Amman, the capital city of the Kingdom of Jordan).

Key Verses: Job 7:17, 8:21

What is man, that You should exalt him, that You should set Your heart on him?…He will yet fill your mouth with laughing, and your lips with rejoicing!

Job asks a great question. What is man? Jesus answered that question. Mankind is the object of God’s love (John 3:14-17). Jesus changed many things that Job and his friends believed. For example, Job said, “He who goes down to the grave does not come up” (Job 7:9b). But Jesus did come up! His grave is empty! (John 11:17-26).

Bildad correctly predicts God’s ultimate plan for Job: (1) Eventual prosperity. (2) The joy of God’s way. (3) Laughing. (4) A confession that brings rejoicing! (Romans 10:8-13). As I’ve written often here in the blog, “Jesus changes everything!”

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I pray for the grace to look beyond my present circumstances to Your long-range plans for me. Thank You for the fact that I am loved by You and that You are mindful of me. May I not live, as has often been said, “under the circumstances,” but may I live “over and above.” In the Name of the One who has overcome even death itself, the Lord Jesus, Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I confess every day that I am an “overcomer.” In the last book of the New Testament, Revelation 12:11, we are told that, “They overcame him [Satan] by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony.” Job and Bildad did not have the written Scriptures in order to know absolute truth, but we are able to compare Scripture with Scripture. I’ve learned through the years that I must diligently study in order to, as the Apostle Paul taught a young pastor/teacher, Timothy, be “diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15).

I had a great example from my Dad. Mother died when I was 12 and Dad and I were left to carry on. He would have the porridge on the stove when he called me to get up for school, and when I arrived in the kitchen, he would have his Bible open on the table, ready to read to me, and then we would kneel and he would pray for me for the day ahead. Only then would he serve the porridge for our breakfast. A child never forgets such consistency. To this day, my number one priority is reading God’s Word and then praying for the day ahead. I’m overcome with emotion just now as I type this and think of the heritage I was given.

Yours for consistently reading God’s Word and for praying with our loved ones,

David

  1. Shalom Dear David on your 81st Birthday.
Your life has blessed so many millions and Meridel and I are part of that number.
I remember in November 1977 when you and Norma Jean made a special trip from Edmonton to Red Deer Alberta to visit Meridel in the Red Deer Hospital after we lost a lovely baby girl. Your presence then and always was a tremendous blessing to us.
We are praying day by day for you here in Jerusalem for your health and blessing in every way. Love always in Yeshua, Jay and Meridel

  2. God’s Word sustians for a lifetime of experiences!
Your parents were amazing examples of the courage of Holiness people to live The Word in all aspects of the day.
I am greatful for your daily example. Courage and love day by day with God’s Word carrying us. Be blessed this day with wisdom, compassion and Love!

  3. Praise God, for your upbringing and consistency your parents taught you, dear David. Thank you for teaching us the same discipline. How great is Your love, Lord. We need You, dear Jesus. Prayers of love and healing for all saints in need, today.

You, Lord, are all I have, and you give me all I need; my future is in your hands.

  4. My father passed away 16 years ago at the young age of 50. My greatest memory of him too was very early in the morning the porridge was ready and him reading from his Bible. I would sit quietly with him and watch and listen and then stumble back to bed for a few hours before school (he worked at AECL on an early shift). I was never able to master that schedule until 5/6? years ago when this blog was started. Dad would have read it for sure! Now im up before 5 to have my time with my heavenly Father before my children get up. Thank you for your faithfulness!

  5. Your parents’ good works follow them as you have taught us the same discipline Pastor David. Thank you. It has made a difference. Claimed the key verse too before I read it here. Amen Rebecca. Thank you Beverlee for all your links, scripture and songs. God bless you David and all saints!

  6. Your words of wisdom and prayer for the day are an encouragement and blessing. Thank you for your consistency. Yes you truly have been blessed to have such a wonderful heritage!
We truly are blessed to have the Bible to lean on and absorb for our daily lives. To know that Jesus is the “Way the Truth and the Life” John 14:6. His Name is the Tower into which we can run and be safe.
We are saved by Grace through faith, and that not of ourselves; its a gift of God God. Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

Have a glorious day all you bloggers!

  7. God bless those who had good parents! dad was an alcoholic, very abusive to me; did not keep me safe, men did things to me and I thought it was love! had no teaching about these things; famous words were bitch, cunt, slut, whore! I did not know what they meant but dad called me them.
I arrived at home with a baby and no dad! Again my dad was so ashamed of me!
It was funny because no one else was and everybody loved the baby!
I had a very screwed up life! no direction, no teaching of any sort, I am so AMAZED that I am still here, Holy Spirit removed addictions from me 22 years ago, broke my leg and God gave me swimming! Yep! I’ve had quite the life!
I have forgiven my parents because God says so and I did love my parents, they just didn’t know how to raise the 1st child; also, baby boy died at 2 years; mom expecting 3rd child; WOW! good reasons for dad to REALLY drink, had so much to drown; poor mom, she had a nervous breakdown; I loved the little sister, however; that only lasted for maybe 20 years; and then more issues happened; all in all The Lord GOD loves me no matter what has happened; I have confessed my sins; He has forgiven me; He does not remember the sins no more, I am so thankful I am alive, God helps me share my story with so many others that are hurting!
I’ve shared that I have a mental illness! Please if anyone is needing support tell them to read my story! I had a very GOOD Pastor when I took confirmation! This Bible study was 4 years; and I really enjoyed studying the Catchesim; God’s Word; and still do!
if a person never has anything to do: REMEMBER there are always weeds to pull and prayers to be said,

    God bless this blog!

    • Sah, I appreciate that you share your testimony. However, I do not appreciate the language you use and wish you would refrain from using such profanity on the blog. It is upsetting to me. Anyways, I will keep you in my prayers.
