GOD BLESS YOU!

Today’s Reading: Deuteronomy 15-16

It would appear that this man sitting among the ruins of ancient Philippi is in need of encouragement. Let’s find someone today who may be discouraged and give him or her a lift.

Key Verse: Deuteronomy 15:7

If there is among you a poor man of your brethren, within any of the gates in your land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not harden your heart nor shut your hand from your poor brother…

The generosity mentioned in our key verse will be rewarded. We will be blessed when we open our hands wide to anyone who has need. There is ample evidence that God keeps His promise to the giving person. In verse ten of this chapter it states, “For this thing the Lord your God will bless you in all your works and in all to which you put your hand.” This exhortation is repeated in chapter 16:17, “Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord your God which He has given you.” The Apostle Paul refers to the instruction given by the “Pillars” of the Jerusalem church. “They desired only that we should remember the poor, the very thing which I also was eager to do” (Galatians 2:10). To practice this as Jesus did, we may want to read Matthew 5:38-48.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, by the Holy Spirit and the reading of Your Words, please grow in me a generous spirit. You are the greatest Example, by far, when it comes to giving. You gave Your very life for poor humanity. For starters, I give my life to You by giving my life for others. Please bring across my pathway, every day, someone I may help. In Your generous Name I pray. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I’m meditating just now on God’s promises found in the Words of Jesus: “Give, and it will be given to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over…” (Luke 6:38). When I read from the Hebrew Scriptures, I recognize that, in His humanity, Jesus is Jewish. No doubt He read the words of today’s reading as a boy. Jesus, as no one else, practiced generous and sacrificial giving. I’m thinking about what Jesus has received as a result. Amazing!!! IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE GREATEST POVERTY IS TO LACK THE KNOWLEDGE OF JESUS AS SAVIOUR AND LORD!!! I try to watch the 100 Huntley Street telecast daily, sometimes twice a day. There are two half-hour shows back to back every day on “YES TV” (the first half-hour is also on Global TV).  While I was in hospital I would watch online at 100huntley.com. Lorna, our CEO, reminded me recently that when I was hosting 100 Huntley Street, I called for one or two invitations to receive Jesus on each telecast. Lorna was my co-host from 1994 to 2002. She and I are deeply concerned about the year-end shortfall of funds in our general operating budget. She doesn’t know I’m writing this. I have a burden of prayer for Lorna, the Board, the entire team and all of you who support us. Will you help me do something extra to lift the heavy burden by sending a sacrificial year-end offering to Crossroads? The quickest way to do this is to make a toll-free call to 1-800-265-3100 with a credit card in hand (or give online HERE). I know that you, my blog reader, are doing your best.

Yours to help us all to give as God has blessed us,

David

Please forgive me for going way over my goal of 100 words. I just had to share the burden with you for your prayer and support. I’m asking Ron to find a recent picture of Lorna on the set of 100 Huntley Street and put it below.

  1. Yes, David, I called in a $100 year-end donation last night to Crossroads, after watching Lorna on 100 Huntley Street, requesting help, and I call for everyone to do the same. We wouldn’t have the daily bible study and blog, saints, if it weren’t for David, or encouragement from Lorna and others on 100 Huntley Street. I, for one, am especially grateful. 100 Huntley Street has been a part of my life since it began June 15, 1977, and oh, what a difference it has made because I have found Jesus. All for His glory! Wishing all saints a blessed day in the Lord!

  2. Just had an average income man, the garbage pickup man come to my door and we exchanged Christmas greetings. Would have liked to have given him a tip or a Tim Hortons gift card but didn’t have enough. Maybe next week. Still nine of us in the family still living. Getting so many phone calls for help lately with so many causes. Will take your reminder Beverlee. I started to watch 100 Huntley St. when I came home from Africa in 1979. Enjoyed it so much and I knew a lot more of the guests then. Then when I cared for my mother here we watched it at 8am and it was my daily encouragement. Merry Christmas to CEO Lorna and all the staff.

  3. Lorna and the team are presenting 100Huntley Street in a most interesting and friendly way and I pray the shortfall will be filled in a Miraculous way. Jesus I pray this in your Mighty Name, Amen!!!

  4. Saints, I have a special prayer request for my best friend Beth’s spouse, Marc. He is in hospital, now, and in need of a liver transplant. Please hold him up as well as Beth, especially at this time over Christmas, having just lost her dad, John. Thank you all for your prayers. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

  5. Merry Chrisrmas David and Norma Jean and your whole amazing household of faith. Thank you for your encouragement to give a special gift which I did this morning by calling the number you posted, David. This is God’s work, we are His people, and I know we all want His work to continue strong May God richly bless Lorna and her family with great encouragement and joy in this tremendous task. Isn’t it so calming to remember that NOTHING is too hard for the Lord! God bless all the many followers of this tremendous resource David gives us daily. Every day we get a Bible study, a prayer, a personal story with application, a lesson in history, in geography, in beauty through photography.

I am so, so blessed by your daily insights out of God’s Word! Thank you very, very much.. Grace and peace to all.
