ARISE

Today’s Reading: John 5

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion on the right-hand side).

In the Old City of Jerusalem are the ruins of the Pool of Bethesda. This is where Jesus healed the paralytic man who had been waiting for his healing for 38 years (John 5:1-15). Here you can also see ruins of a Roman temple to the god of medicine and the remains of a Byzantine church built over the temple.

Key Verse: John 5:24

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

In yesterday’s reading we moved from “PERISHING” to “EVERLASTING LIFE.” Today, Jesus teaches that by believing we move from “DEATH INTO LIFE.” Seven times in John 3, 4, & 5 Jesus repeats His eternal or everlasting life promise. He really wants us to know the facts about our future as believers in Him. Since the sin of our first parents, we, as a human family, have moved in the opposite direction. We’ve gone from life to death. But in Jesus, that direction of destruction has been reversed, both in this life and in the hereafter. The example of the man with the 38-year-long infirmity shows us the “DEATH INTO LIFE” principle at work in our physical bodies in the here and now. The religious leaders of Jesus’ day failed to understand that Jesus came to turn what was the normal process around 180 degrees. By believing in Jesus, the new normal is “LIFE.”

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, I believe in You. I give You my entire life for both time and eternity. I believe You for the healing of my body, my soul and my spirit, a complete turn around from death to life. Please continue to give me the gift of faith to believe, 24/7, that this is a fact and that nothing will ever change this fact. This assurance fills me with joy. Thank You, Jesus! Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

When I served as a Pastor I was requested to lay hands on a newborn baby and pray for his healing. Marina Cooper’s little one was born with a hole in his heart. The very next day, I received a call that the hole had closed and her baby’s heart was perfect. I believe that Jesus did this!!!  He promised that these signs would follow them that believe. He said, “…they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover” (Mark 16:18b). Every believer qualifies to do this. Just do what the Scripture says and leave the rest up to God. For some reason I have begun to sing words from one of the children’s songs from the GodRocks ministry, “Not a doubt! Check it out! Better believe it!” My eldest daughter, Elaine, and her husband, Bruce Stacey, have given me t-shirts with those words on them, plus an additional t-shirt with another line from the same song, “Not ashamed to shout it!” Here is one of their scripture songs online.

Yours for believing,

David

  1. The Lord is my Rock–awesome God Rocks song–thanks for the link, David. I prayed for you, this morning, on hands and knees, for continued strength healing and renewal. Two scripture verses from John 5 stood out this morning: 14: “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you,” Jesus said to the paralytic He had healed. This gives rise to the belief that poor health is a punishment for sin. That is a good topic of discussion. The other verse is 44: “How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God?” Isn’t that so how often we are? We seek love and approval from our families and fail to concentrate on the purest of love God so graciously pours upon us. Loving the rain and wishing all saints a blessed day in the Lord.

“The Lord your God in your midst,
    The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.”
    Zephaniah 3:17 NKJV

  2. I have been believing for healing for 10 years from Parkinson’s. Today I am
very discouraged. Not all people are healed. How do I come to terms with
the Lords will be done? Healed or not healed?

Thank you David, you are truly a blessing.

    • Dawn,my buddy has had advanced Parkinson’s for 5-6 years and his faith remains very strong. He also works out at the Y about 3 times a week to help maintain his muscles so he can continue to ride his motorcycles. He is a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association,as is David Mainse and is an adm in New Life In Jesus. If you are on Facebook you can send a friend request if you wish.(I’m standing beside my motorcycle.),then I can connect you two.You will know it’s my Timeline instantly.God bless

  3. An encouraging devotion for me today! Please pray for my brother in law, he has been undergoing radiation treatment for the last couple of days and for 22 more days after this. He’s a Christian thank the Lord but we want him here for a while yet! My mom and sister depend on him, he is my dad to them now that dad is gone to heaven.

    • Lord God, we bring May’s dear brother-in-law before You and ask for your divine healing intervention in his life; that the treatments will cure the cancer and that he will brought back to full strength and good humour, Lord. We pray that he rests and heals completely and that you bless him and May’s family abundantly. In the precious Name of Jesus, we pray; amen, amen, and amen.

  4. Yes, we need to pray and leave the rest up to God. I believe the faith of the one prayed for comes into play as well. Thank you Beverleee for your kind words yesterday. Lord Jesus we pray for the brother-in-law of May that you will sustain and heal him through these treatments, and continue to make him a blessing to his family for your Glory. I understand you came home from the hospital on the 4th David. God bless you.

  5. What a great photo Reynold…revealing the intricate structure so clearly, and the pool below. Thank you.

For 38 years the man lay waiting for someone to help him; Thank You Jesus that you saw him, Jesus knew exactly what the problem was for He said “rise up pick up your bed and walk. I find it interesting that Jesus asks him “do you want to get well? The man had an excuse “everyone got into the water before him, and no one came to help him” I wonder how many of us really do want to be healed?
Or do we have excuses, waiting for someone to do it for us.

  6. Hi Dawn

I have a friend with Parkinsons; she was so bad and then one day she went to a different doctor, a specialist, and he changed her meds and she was like a normal person again, she has very very slight tremors, she uses a walker, she speaks a bit slow, but she is doing very well.
she still has Parkinsons but it is better controlled that it used to be….just thought I would share this with you….
I have experience with mental illness….God showed me a better way to control the illness, He got me into swimming, it helps a lot…..
Dawn do not give up, continue to talk with God, ask Him tons of questions and we will continue to pray for you……I am glad you shared ……God bless you, have a great day……

  7. Praise the Lord for your great ministry. We enjoy your TV programs

I’d like to subscribe to the 100 Daily words. Thank you!!

  8. Saturday October 22 2.30pm EST – Unfortunately there seems to be a mix -up in posting the Blog. Friday’s Blog has been repeated ( email ‘edition’ ) again on Saturday, but with Saturday’s date. The online edition still reads as per Friday’s Blog ( John Chapter 5 ) and with Fridays date. I’ve had to skip posting it on the Four facebook accounts which I moderate. My Main account is KOTTON CANDY, which has a world-wide ‘reach’ https://www.facebook.com/KOTTON.CANDY.original/

  9. Yes, this posting states its Oct 22 2016, but the posting is a repeat of Oct 21, 2016 including the bloggers’ comments.

  10. Am wondering where Saturday’s post is as well. Trust Pastor David is alright. Does anyone know or is it a glitch in the media?
