CONSECRATION

Today’s Reading: Leviticus 8

The High Priest washes his hands at the Brazen Laver. Behind him stands the replica of the Brazen Altar. During the Summers of 1997 and 2012 thousands visited the Crossroads Centre in Burlington, Ontario, to tour the replica of the Tabernacle which was created by Teen Missions International of Florida.

Key Verse: Leviticus 8:5

And Moses said to the congregation, “This is what the Lord commanded to be done.”

The first seven chapters of Leviticus speak of the sacrifices. Chapter eight introduces the priesthood. As sinners we need a sacrifice. As believers we need a priest. We have both in Jesus Christ. He offered Himself as the final Sacrifice on the Cross, then He entered the heavenly sanctuary as our Priest. The ear, the thumb, and the big toe represented hearing the Word of God, doing the will of God, and going where God commands. Notice that Moses did not say, “This is expedient, agreeable, suitable or traditionally proper.” He did not lead by consensus. Seven times in this chapter the word “commanded” is used. In tomorrow’s reading, we’ll learn the results of obedience. Here’s a sneak peek…”The glory of the Lord shall appear to you” (Lev. 9:6).

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, grant me the grace of strict adherence to Your Word. I find the symbols of Your Priesthood in the Old Testament and the fulfillment of those symbols in Your life and teachings, as described in the Gospels. Thank You that You established “Truth” in these ways. Finally, You confirmed the truth in practice, evident in the lives of believers in the Acts of the Apostles and in the detailed writings of those Apostles. Please sanctify anew my hearing, my doing, and my going. I pray in Jesus’ Name. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

While still a teenager, I heard the Rector of a local Anglican (Episcopalion) Church say that it is absolutely essential to “Read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest the Word of God.” Some statements, such as this one, have been indelibly engraved on my mind. I’ve just read again Jeremiah 31:31-34 and Hebrews 8:7-13. You may want to click on those references and read them with me. I understand that God has put His laws in my mind and has written them on my heart. I make myself available to Him to do this every morning. What an amazing privilege to say, “I know Him,” and to be certain that He is merciful to my unrighteousness. My “sins and lawless deeds” He remembers no more!

Yours for putting equal portions of our minds and our hearts into a more thorough understanding of God’s Word,

David

  1. Praying and Thanking the Lord for His love and grace, and that you will get to go to your house soon. Thank you for sharing that lovely picture of you and your wife. You both look so happy. When I looked at it, I thought of Paul when he said I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Thank you for this blog David. I feel such apart of the family of the Lords even though I sit alone.

  2. Dear David , It is wonderful news that you are going home Oct 4th. I pray for you, Norma Jean and your family. God bless. Love Ruth.

  3. So happy to hear that you will be released soon. That was a long stretch in hospital. Amazed at how you were able to keep the blog going in spite of being so ill in hospital. Praying for strengthening for both of you (I have been visiting hospital for over 4 years now with my sister and I know it has taken some of my strength too). Thanks so much to all involved in the blog. (I was a tour guide in the 1997 Tabernacle – a great experience).

  4. Thank You, Lord, for Your loving mercy! Thank You, David, oh good and faithful servant, for leading us! I used to be afraid of the Bible. When I went back to school and did my under-grad in Religion and Culture, I selected all the Christianity courses and world religion courses to learn about every culture and belief system possible. But I avoided taking the courses that were centered in the Bible. When I continued on to graduate studies and did my master’s degree in Theology, it was the first time in my life that I had read the Bible through in its entirety. But I still avoided scripture, Greek and Hebrew, and specialized my degree in restorative justice. I am so grateful to have been led all these years by you, David, with an in depth daily Bible study and great blog to go along with it. You have always been my greatest teacher! Sorry for the long personal message, this morning, saints. Wishing you all a beautiful day full of blessings as we worship our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen!

Listen, stay alert, stand tall in the faith, be courageous, and be strong.

  5. It is wonderful to hear you are going home. God is good and answers prayers. You, Norma Jean and family are constantly in my prayers. I am on my second round of. “A Daily Walk Through The Bible”… Thank you again as one octogenarian to another..

  6. Thank you David for your faithfulness for your daily blogs in spite of lying in a hospital bed for so long! I am so delighted and so thankful to The Lord to ‘hear’ the wonderful news that you will be going to your own house on Tuesday! I have been praying for you and will continue to do so!! I am praying for you both as I know it is not easy for Norma Jean either . . . or for your family. Such a wonderful picture too! Thank you for sharing Ron!

  7. Thank you Pastor David for including Jeremiah 31:31-34 and
Hebrews 8:7-13 within your comments. Praise God for the New Covenant, Written on our hearts: THE BETTER WAY,” Written in RED!!” THANK YOU JESUS!!
THANK YOU FATHER THAT FOR YOUR GREAT LOVE FOR US!!!
YOU GAVE YOUR ALL FOR US!!! HOW AMAZING!!!

  8. I’m glad we don’t do the Priest and blood thing anymore! It doesn’t appeal to me at all! Just thinking about Jesus on the Cross is enough to make me pass out! I know there are people in this world who still torture people! I am so sorry that this happens in this day and age! Lord all I can do is ask You to intervene in these cases and send the Holy Spirit into the hearts of those who have wicked hearts and turn these hearts towards You and Your forgiveness!
Lord I also ask that You please guide and lead the First Nations people to some form of Reconciliation and Forgiveness! What happened to these precious people was horrible! Again, Lord it seems white men are mean and dangerous and have very sinful hearts! Again, Lord I ask You to enter the hearts of these people, turn them from those evil ways, let them see Your face and let them experience Your forgiveness! Let us pray for all the people in Canada to be more loving and practice kindness to all people.
Thank you Lord for healing David Mainse, thank You Lord that he will be at home soon and enjoy his surroundings with his family. Thank you Lord for this blog! AMEN AMEN AMEN
