MOSES & CHRIST

Today’s Reading: Exodus 40

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion on the right-hand side).

In the life-sized replica of the Old Testament Tabernacle, the High Priest stands beyond the Veil inside the Holy of Holies before the Ark of the Covenant.

Key Verse: Exodus 40:21

And he brought the ark into the tabernacle, hung up the veil of covering, and partitioined off the ark of the testimony, as the Lord had commanded Moses.

Tomorrow, God willing, we move to the New Testament book of Luke. In preparation for our meditation in the third Gospel, let us think about how Jesus Christ has been seen in Exodus. Consider these portraits of Christ in Exodus: (1) Moses and Christ are prophets – Both were endangered in infancy. Both voluntarily renounced power and wealth. Both are deliverers, lawgivers, and intercessors. (2) The Passover – Christ is the Lamb of God who was slain. (3) The Ark was the place where God manifested His Presence amongst His people, and Jesus is “Immanuel,” God with us. (4) Moses hung the veil to show the separation of God from His people…Christ tore the veil from top to bottom to unite us with God (Mark 15:38). Come and join us in the Gospel of Luke starting tomorrow.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, Thank You for the symbols of the Tabernacle which are revealed in You. You promised that the Spirit of Truth would guide me into all truth (John 16:13). I ask for the fulfillment of that promise and for the grace of consistency in my Bible reading, so that I will read every word with understanding. In Your Name I pray, Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I’m wondering how all of you who have joined me in this blog are doing. How are you? I wish we could visit face to face. Please let me know how the daily readings may be blessing you. For over 50 years I’ve done my best, with God’s help, to encourage Bible reading. My most constant memory of my Doctor of Theology father is of him sitting in his chair with his Bible open in front of him. Throughout his life, he must have read the Bible through more than 50 times. He was committed to 3 chapters a day and 5 on Sundays. This took him from cover to cover in 365 days. I used to promote that reading plan but found that the majority of those who started with me didn’t make it. Therefore, I switched to the two-year plan, which was not quite so demanding, and which gave more time for meditation on the content. Hang in there! If not down here on earth, we’ll talk it over up above.

Yours for the blessing of that all-too-rare jewel…consistency (Shakespeare),

David

SPECIAL VIDEO FEATURE: Exodus 40 is all about the process of the erecting of the Tabernacle in the desert. Back in the summer of 2012, we erected a full-sized replica of the Tabernacle behind the Crossroads Centre in Burlington, Ontario. Here’s a link to a time-lapse video of how it was done…probably a little different process than in 1500 BC! (My son Ron and I hosted this segment on a 100 Huntley Street program at that time). 1. I follow your blog from the beginning. I believe this blog has help me grow in my walk with the Lord both physically and spiritually. I am so grateful for your words of inspiration and time with us daily. This has help me start my day with the Lord reading and meditating on scriptures of the day, also your words of encouragement, and the photos, all have been a big blessing to me.
Thank you, I pray God will keep you well and give you many more years. Irene

    • I agree with Irene. I started about half a year after the blog first began. Thank-you so much. The blog has been a great blessing in my life.

  2. Thank you Rev. Mainse for that invitation to visit you. I feel that I know you very well by virtue of your blog which I read daily as you so dutifully prepare the “fresh bread” as you so aptly put it. I enjoy your insights daily as the bread of life is available to each one of us every day. Jeremiah said-“Thy words were found and did “eat” them and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart, for I am called by thy name ‘O LORD GOD od HOSTS”. Your father set an excellent example for his children by opening the Word of GOD every day and reading, studying and praying the scriptures daily. Would to GOD our leaders would do likewise and rule governments as the LORD desires to guide THEM AS THEY LEAD US.. This world would be so different. Thank you for your excellent example in encouraging your people to read GOD’S WORD daily. We thank you for being CANADA’S PASTOR TO CANADIANS AND INDEED TO THIS ENTIRE WORLD.

  3. David, I am still with you on this journey, now for the third time. Thank you so much for consistency. It has helped me so much to get through the whole Boble. I hope and pray that God will keep you here to complete another round!

  4. Thank you so much for your email every morning as I get into the word. I am enjoying and learning so much. I have always wanted to read the bible from cover to cover and never managed to do it. Your are making it so manageable and interesting. I pray your health will improve and Jesus will continue to bless you as you bless us in encouraging us to seek God through his word. Thankyou so much for your faithfulness….

  5. Oh David, I wish as well that we could all meet face to face, to tell you what a difference this daily blog has made!!
For me The Bible has come alive, it makes me cry, for the first time in my life the love of God feels “so real”!!!
I grew up in a christian home, and my parents did their best, but there were so many problems and a lot of fear and anger…these last two years have been wonderful!
I love the picture in my mind, of Jesus ripping apart that curtain…Thank you Dear Lord for loving humanity so much!!

God be with you until we meet at Jesus feet!

  6. This blog is such a help to me. I used to read a portion here and a portion there but the blog has helped me to consistently read through the entire Bible. I started sometime during the first round and have been going ever since. The link to the scripture of the day, (even to listen to the recorded version), the photos (with explanation), the commentary, your personal experiences and encouraging words have all been a tremendous help. Thank you so much to you and the family members who are also involved.

  7. Hi David
I want to thank you for your way of presenting the salvation plan of our Lord God our Saviour.
I enjoy every one that I was able to read.
I too am lvlng in the retirement age , money is not plentiful but my love for our saviour Is rich.
Please continue what you are doing, may God bless you with the work you are doing.
    Harold

  8. I am not doing so well right now– mourning my mother’s passing, but also because my mother was my source of income, my job and was providing me with a home, so I am dealing with a lot more loss than just her presence. I am in my late fifties and the thought of starting over again at my age seems daunting, but the Good Lord hasn’t seen it fit to call me home, so I have no choice but to go forward. Right now forward looks like a large mountain I will need to climb, but I am hopeful that with the time I will see the mountain with God’s help was really just a tiny hill. And part of the reason for that hope is staying connecting to who God is through His Word– lately I might not have been following everyday, but I read His Word every day, even if it just a paragraph–and having the fellowship of other believers on this site to turn to in times like these for prayer support and to be able to support them in prayer has been a comfort and a joy– So thank you staying faithful to the Holy Spirit — this blog has been God’s gift to many of us

    • Donna M I pray God will strengthen you and supply every need at this time. Take time to grieve and know Our Lord has you in the palm of His hands.

Lord Jesus, you know Donna’s needs right now and as you comfort her in the passing of her dear mother, give her peace that the mountain she feels she is facing, You can remove and lead her towards the path you have laid out for her. Amen
      Blessings dear Donna.

    • Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and know that He shall direct thy path. Pro 3:5-6.

  9. The daily Bible reading, and your blog has been a blessing to me.
Thanking you Pastor David for your faithfulness, and others who help you daily to make the blog come about!!
    Blessings to one and all!

  10. Your blog is blessing me immensely Pastor David(we are without a Pastor and I led the Bible Study last night and have a sermon for Sunday on the Baptism of the Holy Spirit) as it gives discipline and order to my life. Also your postings and meditation on the Word has increased my belief and faith level so can speak with more authority so you see it has helped me a lot. To God be the Glory! Also have posted your vlog on my facebook page so my family and friends to be taught. Am taking a Missions’ trip but want to be able to keep up with my tablet hopefully. God bless you in spirit and health today David and fellow bloggers.

  11. my thoughts are the same as yours Irene I am learning everyday from you David ,
and love your personal words. I didn’t see yesterdays post until later on . I have
two books called ” Abide in Christ” and on the Holy spirit by Andrew Murray they are
very good if anyone wants to know where to look them up I would suggest finding them. Donna here is a scripture you can lean on So do not fear, for I am with you,
do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help; you I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 NIV . I hope this helps

  12. Dear David, I can’t thank you enough for hearing Gods Holy Word and obeying our precious Lord Jesus . This is the second time for me it has helped tremendously to keep me consistent in reading Gods Holy Word has given me the strength to see my 35 year old daughter go through chemotherapy and radiation. We have seen many miracles on this journey. The Lord prepared the way but it was up to me to obey that still small voice calling me back to him. I was a back slider you see. How thankful that I came back to Him before my daughter got sick. My new church family of only 3 yrs have shown only love and prayers and have helped us to get through this trial. My husband has not joined me in coming back into the fold , he had a double bypass surgery on January 4 th of this year , believing he will come back he knows the Word better than I . I see changes in him so I know my Lord is quietly bringing him back. Thank you for your years of faithfulness David . I so need this blog to keep me steadfast ,listening and obeying Gods ways . Praying for Your health we need you here on earth to help us.

  13. Hi David, What a Blessing your blog is! For me, being consistent means getting up earlier than everyone else, and being alone with our Lord……It has been wonderful! Thank you for all your encouragement! Donna, l pray God’s best plan for your life going forward. Your mother would want you to be happy even without her for a season……Don’t stay isolated, the world and the body of Christ need you!

  14. I just love completing a book of the OT and going forward into the NT. Exodus was so powerful to read. Thank you for the comparisons of Moses and Jesus. I am honoured to have met you in person on more than one occasion, dear David, but most recently when you were here at Wesley Acres in August for your birthday week-end. My friend Oliver Mweaneake from the Congo was a guest speaker with his book Still With Us and I was blessed to personally introduce him to you. This morning, I enjoyed capturing the sunrise while reading Exodus 40 and John 8-9 lakeside; my last few days here. What a joyful time it has been and I am especially blessed to have written several chapters of my book, here. Thank you David, for your daily bible study and blog. It has kept me on track in the Word and helped me to sink into an even deeper understanding of and relationship with Jesus Christ. It is all for His glory. Amen!! I continue to pray on my hands and knees for you, David, and saints on the blog. Wishing all a most blessed day, in the Lord!

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Mt 6:33 KJB

    Many Blessings
    Love in Jesus Our Lord

  16. Pastor David I can’t thank you enough for your consistency in continuing for yet a third run. I started with the first one but was very inconsistent. Now I get up at 430 to have time where no one else can interrupt and spend that time with God. For years I didn’t understand when moms could find the time but after doing this with you for the past 4 years I know my time with God is first and I don’t miss it …. I CAN’T miss it. I LOVE my time with Him and am so grateful you obeyed and followed through. You have helped bring God’s word alive to me through the short synopsis , prayers, and thoughts and I have enjoyed the vlogs as well. Thank you for all you do. God has used you to make a difference in my life. God bless you and your family.

  17. Marilyn ánd I visit with you each morning … and are blessed by your insights, encouragements and prayers. You have been our spiritual great grandpa since we met you and Norma Jean on our tour of Israel in 2012.

We are well … blessed beyond our imaginations. God has kept His promises. George and Marilyn

    • Amen.

Vivienne and I were on the yellow bus in the Holy Land in 2012 with David and Norma-Jean and found the experience transformative.

I check the fresh bread offered through this blog daily and have referred it to some others.

Hoping that David is feeling better and is (or will soon be) home.

      Shalom,
      Graham and Vivienne.

  18. Thank you David for leading us all through the Bible faithfully everyday. I started with you in February of the first year, and I’m still with you! I may not read the entire blog every day, but this is the most consistent I have been at reading the Word daily! I appreciate the links to Bible Gateway that makes it easy to catch up if I miss a day. Thank you!

I hope you are recovering well, we miss you on daily television. It is great to see Lorna back! My mother watched 100 Huntley St. when I was a kid, and I started when we were married in 1988. I have been a part of the studio audience at both your locations and have met you a number of times. We love and support Crossroads and you too! Happy belated birthday! My dad’s is the same day, a year younger than you. Thank you for your lifelong service to the Lord! You are a blessing to millions!

  19. Thank you Mr. Mainse for blessing us with this daily blog.
I still enjoy and learn from it and have done so since you first started.
    We love you !
And thank you to all who are involved in the blog !

    Diane 🙂

  20. David, thank you for doing the blog. The 2yr. Reading is great. I,ev read my Bible over many times but the daily blog helps on days I,v been slack. We need the Word (the Bread of Life)every day . Trust you are out of hospital now Thank you and my you let the Lord keep using you.

  21. I have been reading this blog since 2012. Love it! The insight you share daily and I especially love your prayer section. This blog has kept me consistent in my bible reading and when I do fall behind on occasion it is easy to catch back up. Bless you David!!

  22. I..we..are truly thankful for 100words.ca. It is like manna for our souls. May God bless all of you involved in bringing it to us, and may we partakers continue the holy work of bringing that manna to others.
Another way I see Jesus in Moses is in his obedience: over & over in Chapter 40 Moses does everything as the Lord commanded him, until his work was finished.
Jesus was totally obedient in all He did until His work of being our Passover Lamb was finished.
Faithful and obedient, spending time in God’s presence and then doing what He says…may we also be like them, faithful in our generation. In Jesus name, amen

  23. I wish we could meet in person also! Reading other’s comments I am touched at how God is using you as such a blessing to us all, pastor David, you are such an example of godly gentleness in a world were there are precious few humble and gentle men. God I pray that all men could weep over the things that are on God’s heart like you are able!

I keep feeling drawn to come to the Burlington center for a visit, I hope someday I will be able to make a way to do so, God willing.

My favorite memory of my dad is also him bent over his Bible at the breakfast table, early in the morning, his coffee beside him.
I have a picture of that Bible and his hymn book (old hymns are the best prayers!) sitting on that table in a ray of sunlight. I wanted to post the picture for you all, but I don’t know where it is.

God bless you and all your family too, and thank you so much for your prayers for us all! I am so much in need of them right now.

  24. Thank you again for the Bible reading plan. I have used the books that were offered on your telecasts over the years. It is an additional blessing to get them by e-mail, fresh each day. Praying for you that you will be strengthened physically more and more each day to continue this ministry. Reading about the bread and lamp stand in the tabernacle, reminds me of Jesus, the bread of life and the light of the world. How, I need Him every day, even as I need food and light.

  25. Hi David,
It would be wonderful if we could do these readings with you in person!
We have done these studies with you before but not consistantly so we are going to do our best to be to stay with you the full 2 years this time!
We were with the Full Circle tour in Israel in 2012 and were greatly blessed by Ron’s bible readings and teachings.
Hope you are out of the hospital by now.
    God bless you abundantly.
Thank you for all the work you do
    Allan and Sybil

  26. Dear David, I’m grateful to the Lord for your faithfulness in this journey of going through the Bible in 2 years. It has been a blessing to me. Also, I want to thank you for being a man of prayer. You have referred to your grandparents and parents – and the legacy of their prayers on your life and family – but I want to affirm you and Norma-Jean for your prayers. You have touched (and continue to touch) our nation for God through prayer and proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. May I and my generation follow well in your footsteps. God bless you and give you everything you need from Him in these days. Helen

  27. Many, many people, like my wife and I, are blessed each day to read the 100 Words. We usually do not comment but we do read every word including the accompanying scripture. I am convinced that there are hundreds more who are also reading and enjoying this 2 year walk thru the Bible.

  28. Your comments this morning Pastor David regarding Moses and Christ are enlightening: Praise God Christ tore the veil and set us free!!!
May the Lord continue to encourage, strengthen and bless you as you continue to bring for this daily manna sharing your heart and thoughts with us. What a blessing to us all who participate!!!

  29. Dear David, I too am following with the readings , Daily I wouldn’d
miss it ,It means so much to me to get that fresh bread early in
the morning… I thank you for your faithfulness to God and us….
Praying for you for strength and good health, May God Bless you
    and keep you Love Rosemarie….

  30. I am so blessed by our blog each day, and continuing from the very beginning. One tends to wander when one doesn’t have a plan, and this blog disciplines me to read each day and meditate on God’s inerrant word.

I don’t always post but want to add my deepest appreciation for your faithfulness and godliness in getting it out each day, even during your illness. A wonderful example of God’s sustaining love.

I pray you have renewed strength each day and that you will have complete healing as The Hand of God touches every inch of you. Blessings to you and your amazing family.

  31. David I started following your blog as part of my daily devotions 3 years ago. I tremendously appreciate what you are doing with this blog. As a Pastor I find it uplifting, challenging and encouraging. I have recommended your blog to many people during this time. I with you pray for a great outpouring of God’s Holy Spirit on our nation that many people will come to know Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. I believe in the Healing Power of Jesus and right now I am believing He will heal me of having fallen out of the bed during the night. I know all things are possible with Christ Jesus. Although I cannot do a lot of things I used to be able to do due to several health restraints and being a senior who cannot walk any distance especially without my two canes, I know that Jesus is carrying me through and is using me to touch other peoples lives for His sake. God Bless you David.

  32. I have had success reading through the bible in two years in the past our church would give out reading list to be completed over one year I never lasted more than two months now I have no guilt and have a daily bible reading and prayer time. now that I have completed the goal I go to whatever reading is on for the day if i miss one I do not try to catch up . I also find the audio reading helps me in some of those old testament passages that I used to get bogged down in in the past In conclusion my devotion time is mush better than in the past and my prayer time for the Church is much more consistent

  33. I too am enjoying our daily time in the Word. It has been such a blessing to me over these past years. You are a real inspiration too all of us Pastor David, you and Norma Jean are VERY SPECIAL PEOPLE. Chosen by God to minister to people everywhere. May God heal you from this infection so you can carry on the work that you love to do. Thank you again for helping all of us stay committed to reading through the Word daily . Blessings from Eleanor M.

  34. I say yes and amen to all the comments that were posted and Pastor David doing this daily blog with you is such a wonderful thing and it means it means the world to me that I can go through the Bible with you on a daily basis and God bless you and everybody who does this blog that’s a man thank you

    • Hi David
My third round with you reading the Scriptures through. One is amazed as we read through Exodus to see how thorough God is in leading Moses and then all the process in telling Moses what he wanted before Moses provided to info to the Israelites. As we came to the last few chapters I was amazed again as I gleaned the following:

      1. So Factual. the exact amount of materials, measurements, gold
      2. So Descriptive – extensive details of every piece of furniture etc
      3. Responsibility – Belalel made everything the Lord commanded Moses & his assistant Oholiah – great qualifications they fulfilled
      4. Accountability of all materials used, amounts of gold, silver & bronze, the value and where used.
Truly, God is a God details. Great lessons on using our gifting, fulfilling our responsibilities, been accountable, reach for excellence. God expects the best. Even in retirement, I want to be that kind of servant of God. Great blessings. Thoroughly enjoyable when you move beyond what seems like tedious reading. It truly is God’s Word – every word, every detail. Thank God, all these ‘shadows’ in Exodus in now fulfilled in our Lord Jesus Christ. Great to be on the journey with you David and other bloggers as we consistently read through the Scriptures. I’m with you! Love and prayers for health and strength.

  35. I am Following this journey through the Bible for the second time around! I am so grateful
For it as I know I would not be doing this without the inspiration of David’s blog. Thank you David. My life is different, and for the better, because if your dedication. God bless you abundantly.

  36. I pray everyone will read Donna’s blog! Let us ALL pray continually for her and that God will supply ALL HER NEEDS!

I am so overjoyed with the honesty of David Mainse over the years and the honesty of the bloggers! When we are completely honest, in our confessions and to one another, then the WORD OF GOD EXPLODES!

My friend Eva is recovering from chemo/radiation. she is very positive, she needs low income housing; praying the Lord will provide.

I am in desperate need of a financial breakthrough!
Yesterday I was so overwhelmed with thankfulness for everything that God has done for me! I did not have to deal with any withdrawl programs, God took away smokes/alcohol in a flash! April 16, 1995! HE DID THAT FOR ME! So thankful, so very thankful……In Jesus Name I Pray AMEN

  37. This blog is and has been an absolute blessing.
I’ve used it as my daily Devotion for > 3 years & have been doing it now daily with my intended, Joel for almost 1 year.
We are blessed each day and it helps us remain consistent and disciplined in our quiet time with our Heavenly Father.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you and your family Rev. Mainse for your diligence and faithfulness in sharing God’s Word.
