A couple at the Nazareth Village in modern-day Nazareth, exhibiting life as it may have been in Bible times.  In today’s reading we learn about what must have been many animated conversations between Isaac and Rebekah. Can you guess what the woman in the picture may be saying? If you have an idea, write it as a comment on this blog. It could be a very serious matter, but we can all appreciate some humour as well.

Key Verse: Genesis 25:21

Now Isaac pleaded with the Lord for his wife, because she was barren; and the Lord granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

Isaac and Rebekah had been married for 19 years but had no children. Isaac became desperate in his prayers. He believed the promise and God gave double…twins. Rebekah prayed also and she received a special word from God (25:23). However, the girl with the ambition to water the camels now took things into her own hands and tried to produce God’s plan rather than letting God do it. Human effort is necessary, but to revert to our own resources alone, after having prayed and received God’s provision, may not change the final outcome, and will cause heartache along the way.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Father God, above all I desire Your will as expressed in Your promises. Grant me the grace to wait on You, making my time and effort available to You, and at the same time to know that You are working all things according to Your will. Like Isaac, I plead fervently with You in prayer. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayer. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Over the years in the service of Christ, I’ve done my best to plan and work for the fulfillment of God’s purpose as revealed in His Word. Twice, during the time I served as Chairman and President of Crossroads Christian Communications, I pushed initiatives through the Board of Directors which a majority favoured, but not all. Both times proved to be mistakes. I learned to ask the Directors to take the issue home, pray fervently, and come back to the next meeting to vote again. If we still could not agree unanimously, we dropped the matter or changed course. Like Rebekah, I’m a “Get it done” person. God has used this drive, but I must be careful. The Crossroads Directors approved the sponsorship of this daily blog. Granted, it was not a huge and costly outreach like our participation in four World Expositions (all unanimously approved), but it illustrates the fact that unity brings the blessing of God on our lives and ministry decisions.

In Christ’s love and service,

David

P.S. With unity we can see the fulfillment of big and little visions. As a result of having a Christian Witness at four World Expos, over 100,000 precious people registered first-time decisions for Christ at our pavilions in Vancouver, Brisbane, Seville, and Hanover! Below is a photo of our first such effort…Pavilion of Promise at Expo ’86 in Vancouver.

  1. (NLV) Genisis 26:24 “And the Lord appeared to him the same night and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham; do not fear, for I am with you. I will bless you and multiply your descendants for My servant Abraham’s sake.”

No matter what we may have gone through or may be going through, it’s important to remember the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is with us. Therefore there is no need to worry for He has placed each of us here, has been a guide on our path, and has blessed us immensely with good things. When our life as we know it comes to an end, He will continue to bless us, keep us and be with us into eternity. As God created this covenant with Isaac, so too does He covenant with us; for when He gave of His only beloved son Jesus, He died and atoned (paid the price) for our sin, that whoever may believe upon Him would have everlasting life. Jesus, Immanuel, God With Us! Hallelujah!

  2. “Here are your jugs of goat’s milk; you want more?” Lord, help us to trust you not only in the big decisions but the small details of our life.

  3. She is definitely trying to get her point across as she speaks with her hands. He is listening intently and looking right into her eyes. I think he is believing what she is trying to voice

  4. I think she is saying, Do you really expect me to do that, I kno w I am supposed to obey you but that is s bit far fetched don’t you think?
Enjoyed the reading today and being reminded that we must wait upon the Lord, His will not ours be done. Amen and blessings to all. Eleanor M

  5. “Now Isaac, I want mint jelly with the roasted lamb for dinner, tonight.” “Yes, dear,” Isaac replied. 😀

  6. Been following this blog since the beginning, however don’t comment much. Look forward to each day’s post. This morning we are in shock as last Saturday we laid to rest Bill Maracle of the Revelations Quartet, and then this morning early got the call that Rev. Howard Dudgeon, lead singer of the group passed in the night of a heart attack. Please remember these two families in prayer at this time of sorrow, and also the remaining members of the group Terry O’Shea & Steve Taylor. God is Good and His plans are best.

    • Thank you for posting this information, Carolyn. So very sorry to hear this news about Rev. Howard Dudgeon’s sudden passing from The Revelations Quartet. I was aware of Bill Maracle’s passing. Having heard them perform many times, I feel nothing but sadness and my heart goes out to their families at this time.

  7. Rebeka says to Isaac, “I know I need to be patient but we have been married for 15 years and still no baby. How will God fulfill His promise to Abraham if I can’t give you a son? Do you think He will chose one of Keturah’s boys, maybe Midian, instead? I have a feeling we will hear from him in the future.”
