A RIGHT ATTITUDE

Today’s Reading: Genesis 18-19

Mount Sodom runs along the southwestern part of the Dead Sea, where Lot’s wife looked back from the mountain and was turned into a pillar of salt. It is most remarkable, because the mountain is made almost entirely of halite, or rock salt. It is approximately 8 km long, 5 km wide, 742 feet (226 m) above the Dead Sea, yet 557 feet (170 m) below sea level.

Key Verse: Genesis 18:17

And the Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing…”

Before judgment, God always gives an opportunity for mercy. Abraham interceded with the Lord, asking Him to spare Sodom, and He finally settled on ten righteous people who would be sufficient to protect the city from destruction. Lot probably had at least that number in his household. However, only Lot, himself, was found to be righteous. God reveals His plans to someone so that they can pray fervently and give warning of impending judgment. For example: Noah before the flood; the increasing severity of the plagues before the final judgment on Egypt; the warnings of Jesus Himself before the destruction of Jerusalem, and others that I could mention. Abraham’s attitude (NIV) or mind (NKJV) was for mercy and not judgment. He experienced mercy himself in the promise of the birth of a son with his wife Sarah.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord, I intercede through the Person of Jesus Christ, Your Son and my Saviour. I pray for the protection of people everywhere. I pray for all to open their hearts to Your mercy shown in sending Your Son to save them. I pray for the soul-winning outreach of the ministry sponsoring this Blog, Crossroads Christian Communications Inc. I pray for Lorna Dueck, our Chief Executive Officer, and for all who work with Crossroads, in order to bring men, women, boys and girls to Yourself. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

The cause of protecting humanity’s oldest covenant, “marriage between one man and one woman,” has moved me deeply. First of all, with permission from the owners, I did several focus groups about same-sex marriages with mechanics at garages during their lunch hour. When I asked them about “marriage” they would talk about their parents and grandparents, and even their own marriages. Then one of them would say something like this, “#*@!!, I guess marriage doesn’t mean anything anymore.” I went into prolonged prayer most of one night, and I believe God said to me, “You must not go public on this issue unless you have the ‘attitude’ which Abraham showed toward Sodom.” I believe God gave me a gift of a loving approach to all who support same-sex unions, while standing firmly for traditional marriage. According to Jesus, one man/one woman is God’s plan (Matthew 19:4-6). When God’s purposes are deliberately violated, the human family eventually brings judgment upon itself. I pray fervently for God to hold back judgment and to continue to extend mercy.

Yours because of His mercy,

David

  1. It’s amazing to me how society has pretty much eradicated the word ‘sin’ from our modern vocabulary. For even a generation ago, most people knew what the term “living in sin” generally meant. Society may change, societal values may change, however the Word of God remains unchanged; this is what we as Christians stand upon for all that is righteous and true, where we gain our values, principles and spiritual food. Do not be deceived with empty philosophies of the day, we may live in “modern” times, but sin is still sin, and truth is still truth. Cherish the truth.

  2. That is amazing my mother of 91 yesterday asked me how are we supposed to feel about the way marriages are being interpreted and you David have given the faithful answer, pray for Gods mercy.
    Amen

  3. Yes, I believe we need to keep both the word “sin” and “mercy” in our vocabulary as interpreted by the Bible.

  4. Am praying for Crossroads Christian Communications, Inc. and the new CEO, Lorna Dueck. Blessings David and fellow bloggers!

  5. Incredible photo that goes perfectly with today’s scripture–thank you, Reynold. Although Genesis 19:30-38 is disturbing because of the pattern of incest that is repeated throughout the Old Testament. Wonderful vlog, dear David. Blessings dearest saints in the Lord.

  6. THANK YOU DAVID FOR THIS MORNINGS THOUGHTS RE MARRIAGE
[I am 83 and I agree with you]
I too have had to go through a similar process – we continue to love all, but God’s Holy written Word still stands
The Lord Bless you – your loved ones – your ministry and Lorna as she begins her new duties.

  7. I pray for continued strength and healing for you Pastor David. I pray this in the Mighty Name of Jesus.
Affirming the importance of standing for the Truth of God’s Word, and praying for His Mercy.

  8. In agreement with you Beverlee re: the incest in the Old Testament. Why was this allowed?
In today’s society I believe in marriage between a man and a women. What do I do if I have a nephew who I have loved since his birth who is gay? I may not agree with his lifestyle but he is part of our extended family. Am I allowing a double standard?

    • Do not wrack your own heart, Pam, for you are not in control of your nephew’s actions. Love from your heart, for he is your nephew. His sin is between God and him. Pray for him and encourage him with the Word. Know how much God loves you both. The incredible thing is God loves each of us with the exact same amount of love and sees us through the same eyes of love. We are all His children. The greatness of that love is endless and enduring.

  9. Bless you David…Only the copulation of one male and one female can humans be reproduced…same sex uniting means no human reproduction….so God is telling society that our society is bringing on its own obliteration
All the artificial methods, as in insemination, etc ,in the world will not change God’s warning.

  10. I find it very difficult to discuss same sex marriage, gays, lesbians life styles!
I have encouraged some people to talk with a Pastor at a Christian church and I have given the names of Pastors that I feel would be good people to talk with in regards to this situation. It’s difficult for me…..I have the same feelings about tatoos! Scripture, God’s Word, talks about all these situations, I find it hard to judge any situation, I want everyone to go to heaven!
Pam, incest is sin, and we are all sinners! No sin is different from any other sin, when we sin we sin against the Triune God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit! In the Old Testament it is exactly as it is in today’s world! All the sin that was recorded in the Old Testament is happening in today’s world!
Then God sent His Son to die for all OUR sins; and ALL sins of the future! It makes we want to faint from sheer blessings showered down from Heaven onto us, His children, who are cleansed through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God’s Son! AMAZING! AMAZING! AMAZING! Thank you Lord God amen
