The “Church of the Primacy of St. Peter” on the northwest shore of the Sea of Galilee, Israel. It is built upon a rock known as the place where Jesus prepared breakfast for His disciples, following His resurrection and after Peter said to the others, “I’m going fishing!” They fished all night and caught nothing. Jesus then told them “Cast your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some” (more about this story in John 21).

Key Verse: Matthew 7:24 (NKJV)

“Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock; and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

Jesus’ disciple, Simon, listened in person to the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus had given him another name, Peter, or “Rock.” Peter had many lessons to learn before he could stand as a solid rock to deliver the foundational message for Jesus’ Church on the day of Pentecost, the birthday of the Church (Acts 2). John Paul II said, during his visit to Canada (he spoke French as he was in Quebec City), “Pierre est une petit pierre, mais Jesus est Le Grand Pierre…Peter is a small rock, but Jesus is the Great Rock.” I was listening to the Pope on the radio. He was right! Let us build our lives on “The Great Rock,” the Lord Jesus Christ.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Dear Lord Jesus, My life is being built on You as my sure foundation. On You I am secure forever. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

My wife was born in 1939 in a farm house built in 1878. It had solid foundations. Norma-Jean would often spend long periods of prayer in her birth room. Her life, like the house, was unmovable, totally secure. Nine years ago we sold that farm and built a smaller house. I personally helped the builder lay the foundations on solid rock. In the place we built, there is massive rock everywhere. As a 16 year old, I made a lifetime decision. I would build my life on “The Great Rock.” I’ve discovered that He is solid, and I am anchored to Him; He’s rock solid. I believe that no storms of life will ever push me off the secure Foundation of Jesus Christ!

Your Brother in Christ,

David

P.S. I wrote a book based on the Sermon on the Mount. It’s called, Journey Into Joy.  If you’re interested, you can purchase it on our Crossroads e-store here.

  1. Mt. 7:1-2 “Judge not, that you be not judged. For with what judgement you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.”

Have you ever been judged unfairly? We probably all have at one point or another in our lives. It can be a point of great contention, hurt, bitterness, strife and anger in our hearts … all those things that are not aligned with God’s Holy Spirit and the fruits of the Spirit. By living this simple guideline in God’s word, many a squabble and conflict that we might endure could be eliminated. After all, would we really want to be judged by the standards that we judge others? The Holy Spirit speaks. There’s such great practical wisdom in God’s word for our daily living.

    • Amen, Scott. It is so easy for us to judge others; the Word reminds us. We tend to lash out when we are in pain, ourselves, and often, it comes through as being judgmental. In fact, when we judge others, we are judging ourselves. It reminds me of something Bill Johnson said in a sermon: “Your shadow will always release what overshadows you.” Amen.

  2. Oh, thank YOU, Jesus for being our rock to stand on, through faith, and Your loving grace. Thank you, David Mainse, for that wonderful vlog message, this morning. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. We are your sheep who have followed your narrow path and our world has opened wide because of it, dear Jesus. We thank you with our love and praise and spreading the Word. Prayers for all in need, today. Blessings, dearest saints, in the Lord.

The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD; he is their stronghold in the time of trouble. Psalm 37:39 ESV

    “At Thy feet I fall,
    Yield Thee up my All,
    To suffer, Live, or Die
    For my Lord crucified.”

  3. I have shared this poem before:

I cannot say for certain, why the world is,
So colourful on some shores, then so grey.
Why some of us are blessed, with so much comfort.
And others struggle, just to live the day.
I cannot say for certain, of misfortune,
Or why some lessons, seem to speak in pain.
I can only place my faith, in my Lord, Jesus.
To follow His path, is the only way.

  4. Your vlog is such a wonderful addition to our reading, David! I commend you and thank Our Lord, for giving you the determination, commitment and strength to go this extra daily mile along our spiritual journey! His blessings and strength to all!

  5. What a wonderful start to the day great teaching this morning, thank you Pastor David love to see you on the Vlog. It makes it more personal when we can see you and listen to you, what a great idea God put on your mind.
Beverlee I loved the song and your poem, praying that you will be pain free .

  6. A well known evangelist said recently, that in the foundation of a house he had built, he placed a Bible. He said they did that in the new church building as well. He is a person who is very familiar with things in homes that attract demons. He came from a country where that is prominent. I don’t like to hear that “only a few” find the narrow way/gate. The preaching is so available in North America, so far. We have to make the best use of the opportunity NOW. I pray for a spirit of boldness. JESUS is our ROCK.

  7. I am sure enjoying the “Vlog” every day!! God bless you Pastor David and praying for a wonderful day filled with blessings for all our blog buddies.

  8. Thank you Brother David for your message on foundations and then the key verse speaks about the importance of doing the Word of God. Thank you Beverlee for your song and poem. God bless everyone involved with this blog today!

  9. hi David, I wonder if it’s possible for your son to add a “like” button to the comment section (like some of the news blogs have). You might get a better idea of how many readers you have, as sometimes (us introverts) we just don’t have words to say. lol! 😀

  10. Loved the message today. As a young child going to DVBS we sang the song “A wise man built his house upon the rock” . I didn’t fully understand the meaning then but it planted a good foundation. Thanks David for all you do.

  11. Dear Heavenly Father, thanks for this Vlog & Blog.
It helps us learn Your Word more thoroughly and grow spiritually.
The whole world needs You Lord Jesus!
May Your Will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven, Amen!
Please God have mercy on us all, Amen!

  12. “On CHRIST THE SOLID ROCK I STAND, ALL OTHER GROUND IS SINKING SAND, ALL OTHER GROUND IS SINKING SAND”

Joined with you in prayer this morning David, both on “vlog” and in this blog.
Yes my life is built on THE SOLID ROCK, A SURE FOUNDATION!!!

  13. Dear David,
I am so far behind in following this Bible Study that I am embarrassed to leave a comment thus divulging how far behind I am, but here goes…
Today I am reading the book of Job for the first time (not the first time ever – just the first time through with you, David – in your 2013 entry). I was curious about what kind of responses you got to your request for help with responding to Myles as I was reading August 28, 2013, so I thought I would go to your website and click around until I found the right date and see what suggestions were offered. I didn’t have to search – the link was there on today’s page! What are the chances??!! Pretty good I guess:) Thank You Lord for once again arranging what may seem to some as a coincidence but I stopped believing in coincidence as long time ago. And thank you David for this wonderful walk through the Bible. I may be slow but I’m with you and very grateful!
