THE BOILING POT

Today’s Reading: Ezekiel 24-25

This large boiling pot of beans is at the Mully Children’s Family in Ndalani Kenya. Through the years, much support has been given by our 100 Huntley Street viewers for the thousands of children cared for by Charles and Esther Mulli. This pot represents blessing, but Ezekiel’s pot in today’s reading represents judgment.

Key Verse: Ezekiel 24:14

“I, the Lord, have spoken it;

It shall come to pass, and I will do it;

I will not hold back,

Nor will I spare,

Nor will I relent;

According to your ways

And according to your deeds

They will judge you,”

Says the Lord God.

Ezekiel 24 has three illustrations which provide a picture of judgment. (1) The cooking pot. (2) The loss of Ezekiel’s wife. (3) Ezekiel has not spoken for some time, and now he speaks again. The reason for all this is found in verses 24b and 27b…that “you shall know that I am the Lord God!” Ezekiel’s knowledge of the future siege of Jerusalem (24:2) constitutes a confirmation of his genuine, God given, prophetic gift. Our key verse points to the fact that judgment is “according to your ways…your deeds, they will judge you!” The Judge on the bench simply recognizes facts and passes sentence accordingly. The people are their own worst enemy, bringing judgment upon themselves. It’s not God’s fault!

Ezekiel 25 points out that Israel is not alone in the destruction they’ve brought on themselves. Neighbouring countries also suffer the consequences of their sins.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I repent of my sin, and according to Your promise You forgive me (1 John 1:5-10, Psalm 51:1-4). I pray that I will turn 180 degrees away from sin. I realize that while I’m forgiven, sin still has its consequences in my life, my family, and my community. I cry out for purity of heart, mind and deeds. I do so in the Name of the only Person who never sinned, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I’ve just watched the movie, Son of God. The scene of Peter’s sin in denying that he even knew Jesus was so powerful. The producers may have been easy on Peter because, while the Scriptures say Peter “began to curse and swear,” I don’t think I heard the cursing and swearing (read Matthew 26:69-75). The events of Jesus’ life were there with great strength, even though the order of those events may have been changed somewhat. A movie producer must be given the leeway to cover the material as he or she (Mark Burnett and Roma Downey) see fit (for a 100 Huntley Street interview with this amazing husband and wife team, click here).

Currently there’s a new movie out on the resurrection of Christ called “RISEN.” Click here for info and trailers.

Yours in support of powerful visuals, as well as words, which, like Ezekiel’s word pictures (a boiling pot), convey “Truth!”,

David

  1. The photo of the boiling pot of beans is a wonderful visual connection with today’s scripture reading. Yes, we declare to the world, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. We have fellowship with You, Lord, and therefore we do not walk in darkness, and we practice the truth. Yes, Lord, we walk in the light as You are in the light. We have fellowship with one another, and Your precious blood, our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, Son of the God, most high, our Heavenly Father, cleanses us from all sin. We are righteous because we walk with You, Lord. We give You all the thanks and praise and glorify Your Holy Name. Amen, amen, and amen. Blessings fellow saints, in the Lord.

    “How good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity…for there the Lord has commanded the blessing…” Psalm 133:1–3, AMP

    Thanks Beverlee for that spirited song, loved the words.

  3. David. I am on a trip met some people of high influence, broken hearted due to the hard hearts and darkness. “Lord help me yo be the second version of “Peter”. Abba.

  4. Have a Blessed Lord’s Day, all…”Rejoice in the Lord Always, and again I say, Rejoice”. May “The Joy of the Lord be your strength”. blessings and love to all.
    Thank you Lord, for “Your Mercies that are new every morning” and I receive them this morning, rejoicing in You, for it is the “Day You have made”, and I choose to rejoice in it, Amen.

    “Bless the Lord, Oh my soul, Bless the Lord Oh my soul, and all that is within me Bless Your Holy Name”

  5. I had never realized that Peter cursed. Somehow I missed that. But, of course, they did not have the Holy Spirit yet. They had Jesus Teacher but not the Holy Spirit living within them – bringing the teaching to mind. He was so very sorry after though.

  6. I discovered this prayer a while back, I don’t know who wrote it, but it seems appropriate for the Lenten season we are in, so I offer it for anyone who like to add it their prayers, formal or informal

    O Jesus, meek Saviour and Prince of Peace, implant in me the virtues of gentleness and patience; let me curb the fury of ANGER and restrain all resentments and impatience so as to overcome evil with good, attain Your peace, and rejoice in Your Love. O Jesus, model of humility divest me of all pride and ARROGANCE; let me acknowledge my weakness and sinfulness, so that I may bear mockery and contempt for Your sake and esteem myself as lowly in Your sight. O Jesus, teacher of abstinence, help me serve You rather than my appetites. Keep me from GLUTTONY, the inordinate love of food and drink and let me hunger and thirst for justice. O Jesus, lover of purity, remove LUST from my heart, so that I may serve You with a pure mind and chaste body. O Jesus, defender of the poor, help me to avoid all COVETOUSNESS for earthly goods and give me a love for Heavenly things. Inspire me to give to the needy, just as You gave Your life that I might inherit eternal treasures. O Jesus, exemplar of love, keep me from all ENVY and ill will; let the grace of Your love dwell in me that I may rejoice in the happiness of others and bewail their adversities. O Jesus, zealous lover of souls, keep me from all SLOTH of mind or body. Inspire me with zeal for Your glory, so that I may do all things for You and in You. Amen
