GREAT AND MIGHTY THINGS

Today’s Reading: Jeremiah 33-34

In the lower parts of what was the High Priest Caiaphas’ house is a dungeon. This is the area where Jesus would have spent the night after He was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane. In today’s reading, we find Jeremiah is “still shut up in the court of the prison” here in Jerusalem. Above the dungeon, the Church of Saint Peter in Gallicantu (“the cock crowing”) now sits.

Key Verses: Jeremiah 33:3

Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.

God spoke the words of our key verse to Jeremiah while he was in prison. Whatever our circumstances, we just need to “call,” then listen and watch! God hears and answers pivotal prayers. The pivotal word, “behold” (33:6), turns our eyes from the judgment we bring upon ourselves to God’s promises of healing, abundance of peace and truth, return, rebuilding, cleansing from sin, joy, praise, honour, goodness and prosperity. It’s no wonder that Jeremiah quotes the often-repeated words of King David, “His mercy endures forever!” The fact is that King Zedekiah is the last of the line of Kings descended from David to reign in Jerusalem until the Roman authority, Governor Pilate, places these words over the head of Jesus as He hung on the cross, “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews!” (Matthew 27:27-37). Jesus said to Pilate, “My Kingdom is not of this world; if My Kingdom was of this world then would My servants fight” (John 18:36-38). It is estimated that by the time of the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans in 70 A.D., at least half of the people of Jerusalem, and many of the priests, had made Jesus, the Messiah King, their Lord and Saviour.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I pray for grace sufficient to truly repent, so that I consistently do the right thing, not as the leaders of Jerusalem who seemed to repent but then reneged on their decision to free the slaves (Jeremiah 34:8-16). Lord, I sing the chorus, “Keep me true, Lord Jesus. Keep me true. There’s a race that I must run, there are victories to be won. Give me power every hour to be true.” I pray this in and through the Name of the only 100% consistent One, the Lord Jesus Christ! Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Jeremiah 34:22 tells me that, “The host of Heaven cannot be numbered, nor the sand of the sea measured.” The inspired-by-God Scriptures, while not a scientific document, when it contains a statement concerning natural science, does not contradict truth. Around 200 B.C. the first textbook on astronomy was written by Hyparchus, a Greek. He claimed that he had counted the stars and there were 850 in total. Some claim that Hyparchus counted 1,022 stars. Of course, 1600 years later, Galileo discovered the stars were numberless. At any rate, when even modern texts are different than the clear statement of fact in the Bible, I take my father’s advice on this. When I came home from a grade seven class and reported that I had been embarrassed in front of my science class by a teacher who mocked me for believing that God created all there is, Dad said, “Just wait, David, you’ll find out that the Bible is right when all the facts are in.” I’m pointing this out with several examples during this two-year journey through the Bible. For example, the Babylonian wise men, advisers to Nebuchadnezzar, believed, according to their records, that we humans, animals, etc., were vermin on the hide of a great giant. In spite of 70 years in captivity in Babylon, the Jewish writers of the Bible never wrote such nonsense. They had God’s revelation of Himself, the Holy Scriptures.

Yours for a wait-and-see approach to current “scientific” texts, which are always changing and in many cases the scientists are at odds with each other,

David

  1. They may have laughed then Pastor David, but Praise GOD, they are not laughing now. I’m sure they were laughing when NOAH started to build GOD’S ark; then soon and very soon, the open mouths were filled with droplets of rain, then the laughter stopped as the rains came down heavy from heaven and the laughter soon changed to tears and the tears turned into cries / pleas for help.
Well, we have such an ark today and HIS NAME is JESUS and if we will call unto HIM today, HE will not laugh at us, but will have compassion on us and save us if we need saving; HE will heal us if we need healing; HE will supply ALL our needs if that is the need in our lives, BUT HE WILL NOT LAUGH AT US,Praise HIS LOVELY NAME.

  2. Lord, we hold up Catherine’s granddaughter Cathryn, this morning, as she faces a heart test at hospital. Please keep her in the best hands and have the tests reveal what the doctors need to know to treat her accordingly. We pray for Your loving hedge of protection around her. We also hold up Amelia, Lord, as she awaits her test results.

To the family of Evan and Jordan Caldwell, who were tragically taken, in the bobsled accident in Calgary, please know our prayers are with you. May God’s loving arms wrap around and comfort you during this terribly sad and difficult time. We don’t understand the reasons why our loved ones are taken so soon and tragically, from us, but we know with all certainty, they are safe in the arms of Jesus, safe on His gentle breast, sweetly, they shalt rest. To David Carr, Mark Lyons and Caleb Hettinga, still in hospital, we hold you up in prayer, for strength and healing, and ask God for the best medical care to be provided. Caleb, who is facing the worst physical trauma and recovery ahead, hold onto the cloak of Jesus, son. To Danny Spalding whose bravery was crucial during the aftermath, may the Lord God put the right people in place for you to lean on when the time comes for you to unfold your feelings about the trauma you experienced. Boys, know there are many saints praying for you, around the world. Jesus is the sword strength and mighty Lord who saved you and will clear the way for your recovery. Praise God for all of your lives! Jesus is Your Shield, now and forever!

Happy Shrove Tuesday and blessings fellow saints as we spread the seed of Jesus to all we meet.

  3. for me personally there is no other explanation concering the creation of this world and the humans and wildlife of all kinds; it was not done by man but by someone with much greater power than ever seen on earth! The migration of animals is jaw dropping, the movement of the sun, moon, stars is so wonderful and beautiful, it just takes your breath away! The seasons that are always on time, the birth of a child, the instinct both in human beings and animals is unbelievable! The world works in perfect harmony! IT IS ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICIENT! Yes, I believe God created the world and everything that is in it! He made it perfect and even when humans screw it up, the world continues to turn as God created it to do!
I feel the same way about the Lord’s Prayer! This prayer was written with the proper order first! The first 4 lines Honour our Lord God, and then the next line is to ensure that we have daily bread; THEN the next line is “forgive us our trespeasses as we forgive those who trespass against us!” It is no accident that this line would be in the first part of this prayer because this action, to forgive, is the difference in having a good life or a very good life. Forgiveness releases the hormones in our body which help us to digest our food properly, to be happy with each other and to have a good relationship with God!
I am so thankful that God created this world and gave us this prayer and He promises us to be with us until the end!
thank you for this blog! bless everyone today!
