THE SNARE/TRAP

Today’s Reading: Psalms 140-142

This is the Parliament House in Athens, Greece. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is located at the bottom of a high wall surrounding the Parliament Building. On this wall is a relief that depicts a fallen soldier which is surrounded by quotations from Pericles’ funeral oration. Two sentry boxes on either side of the tomb have small canopies to protect the guards against the sun. Psalm 141:3 is a prayer for God to “Set a guard over my mouth. Keep watch over the door of my lips.” This prayer should be prayed by all politicians and in our case at Crossroads, all who seek to communicate God’s thoughts expressed in His Word by the use of all forms of media.

Key Verses: Psalm 141:3, 9

Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth;

Keep watch over the door of my lips.

…Keep me from the snares they have laid for me,

And from the traps of the workers of iniquity.

Common to all three Psalms in today’s reading is David’s recognition that snares have been laid to trap him with wickedness, iniquity, and isolation. In each of his compositions we learn that David turned to God for protection and deliverance! When we pray and ask God for His intervention in our lives, God says, “Yes!” A New Testament reading which confirms God’s answer to the prayers of our key verses is 1 Corinthians 10:11-13. God promised us (and He cannot lie) a way of escape from every trap or snare that has the potential to destroy us. God, Paul declares, will “MAKE THE WAY OF ESCAPE!” God has shown us the escape plan, but it’s up to us to run for it! Our escape from the snares of the world, the flesh, and the devil is the CROSS OF CHRIST! For believers in Jesus, His Name stands for all He is and does. Proverbs 18:10 says, “The Name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe.” Amen!!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I pray the words of the key verses: “Set a guard…over my mouth;… over the door of my lips…keep me from the snares…and from the traps.” As Psalm 142:5 says, “I cried out to you, O Lord…” I do that now! I confess, “You are my Refuge!” I pray this in the Name of my Strong Tower, the Lord Jesus Christ! Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

As I’ve done my reading and meditation today, I’m praying for our new Canadian Prime Minister and also for the candidates who are seeking their party’s nominations for President of the United States. Tomorrow evening there is a TV debate in which the Republican candidates expect to participate. As we’ve read today in Scripture,”The snares…the traps” are there to destroy people. Several of these have boldly confessed Jesus as Saviour and Lord. Please join me in prayer that God will “set a guard” over their mouths. On November 11th, we’re remembering those who gave their lives for our freedom. Because of this freedom, Brit Hume, a former White House correspondent for ABC News, on live worldwide TV, looked into the camera and spoke directly to golfer Tiger Woods, who had messed up his life badly, and said, approximately, “Tiger, you need Jesus!” God surely caused Brit to speak boldly and wisely. For decades on the 100 Huntley Street daily telecast I never went on air without praying, “God, please put a watch (or guard) over my mouth!”

Yours to be on guard, protecting each of us from all the snares and traps that sin, self, the devil, and other people may set for us!!!

David

P.S. Here is an interview with Brit Hume from the Christianity Today magazine.

  1. Amen! Yes, Lord, set a guard, over our mouths. Keep watch over the doors of our lips. Keep us from the snares they have laid for us, Lord. And from the traps of the workers of iniquity. Our God is faithful. He will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that we may be able to bear it. We are freed from Your almighty sacrifice, grace, and forgiveness of and for us. Amen, amen, and amen! Thank you so much, David, for the link to the interview in Christianity Today. I read the article, and also the following one: From the Bahá’í Faith to Porn to Alpha to Jesus. It was an excellent article and a great reminder to get back to my writing. Our God is so good, amen! Blessings fellow saints. It is a wonderful day for healing and being and living as children of God and spreading the Word to all the world. All for Jesus! Amen!

    • Beautiful prayer song! Also, Strong Tower has been coming up over and over to me lately. We sang a new “Strong Tower” song a church a week or so back. We had been singing another “Strong Tower” song prior to that. Have read articles lately with that verse quoted and I do mention “Strong Tower” to folk when the opportunity comes up. Praying for little Jeremy and River.

  2. Dear David, thanks for your so beautiful words.

So glad your little girl is better. Pray for our pastor Mika Kostamo, his wife Tamara as his first little boy 4 year Jeremiah has a persistent low platelet rate about 16 to 18, due to a genetic disease called Fanconi’s Anemia. The pain is so ongoing as unless the Lord heals there is no hope for a cure. Love, Anne

    • Lord God You have a plan for Jeremiah and his health, comfort the parents and the rest of the family. I pray Lord God that You will heal this precious child! NEVER DOUBT THE POWER OF PRAYER! We thank You in Jesus Name AMEN

  3. Brit Hume is such a good man of substance. I have seen him on Fox News quite a few times and he guards his lips quite nicely.
Looking forward to the debate of the Republicans.
One of my friends has a problem with a friend of her husband’s and we had a friend who used to do the same thing. They send (supposed to be funny) pornographic email fwd’s. to us so I suggested to my lady friend that every time she received a repulsive email from this fellow to hit reply on his email and send him a lovely devotional or quote from our bible or a great video from 100 Huntley St. I think God would want us to try to convert this type of character rather than send him a nasty email. I’ve done this with a “friend” of ours and we no longer get porn. from him in fact some of the emails we’ve received now are also Godly and inspirational. My friend was quite upset about those emails and happy to have the suggestion about the devotionals. Jesus didn’t dismiss individuals just because their souls were warped a bit. He tried to win them over to salvation. Hope this helps if anyone else is having the same challenge with individuals. Fear not!
    Blessings fellow soldiers!

  4. Amen to every comment, uplifting music & song!

Praying for God’s Will to be done in each life with special needs.
God is good & His Mercy Endures Forever! Praise His Holy Name! Amen.

  5. David
Sorry to hear about your great-granddaughter, River June. Praying for her that her medical condition will be totally resolved and she will live a healthy productive life. I can’t help but think of Jesus and the little children. “Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not” Mark 10:13-16 “And He (Jesus)took them up in His Arms, put His hands on them, and blessed them”. What a beautiful picture! “O God, place your hand upon the life of River and bring complete healing to her body. All this, through Jesus Christ our Lord who made it possible through his death and resurrection. (Romans 8:11)*Matthew 18: 1-10, Jesus emphasized how precious and important children are to him. Prayers for River and all the children, young and old, who need the touch of God upon their lives.

*”But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwell, He who raised Christ from the dead swill also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.” NKJV. I like the KJV even better. “It shall quicken (make alive) your mortal (physical) body by His Spirit that dwelleth in you”

Praying for all who need God’s healing touch. This verse in Romans is a powerful promise we can claim and experience. His resurrection power quickening and making alive our physical bodies. Special prayer for you Pastor David Mainse that God will continue His powerful healing process in your life!

Can we really believe what God is saying in this verse? wow! it is enough to shout ‘Hallelujah”!!! “O God, unleash your Resurrection Power upon us all, in Jesus Name!. You are powerfully at work in so many lives today and I give you worship, praise and thanksgiving”.
