MY REDEEMER, THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

Today’s Reading: Job 18-19

The Russian Orthodox Convent of the Ascension is located on the Mount of Olives. According to Orthodox tradition, this is the site where Jesus ascended to Heaven 40 days after His resurrection. A chapel behind the church is dedicated to John the Baptist, and according to tradition his head was found in a jar hidden in a cavity under the mosaic floor of an ancient Armenian church. Job said, “He shall stand at last upon the earth.” Jesus stood here at His ascension, and he will stand here again at His second coming.

Key Verses: Job 19:25-27

I know that my Redeemer lives, and He shall stand at last on the earth; and after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!

This may be the first time to emphasize three key verses in this blog. They are so refreshing to read! Job has been enveloped in darkness, but suddenly light breaks through! From here on, Job slowly, slowly begins to hear from God.

We too can have truth illuminate our paths as we read His Word and seek the Light of the World, Jesus, in sincere prayer. Let us confess out loud, if possible, Job’s declaration in our key verses!!! This will engrave these words into our hearts and minds. Take time to meditate, concentrating on what God is speaking to us about His purposes for our lives.

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life” (John 8:12). John writes about that light in his first letter to the churches. Let’s read those words found in 1 John 1:4-7 and make a fresh determination to “walk in the light as He (Jesus) is in the light.”

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I pray for grace to walk so close to the “Light of the world” that I will never “walk in darkness” again. In the Name of Jesus, the true Light for all people, I pray, Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

In the early 1940’s, my Dad was stranded in Egypt and the Sudan because of the world war, and I had a job to do to help my mother and my two sisters. I had to cross a field, a ditch, and the base line road to reach the barn of Stuart White. Mr. White would fill my little pail with milk while he was milking the cows, carefully put the lid back on the pail, and send me off home. This was fine during the long evenings of summer, but in the dark evenings of winter at milking time, it was a different matter. I carried a lantern (no flashlight available) along with my pail. That light was my comfort. At 6, 7 and 8 years old, I was sure there was danger lurking in the shadows. While the pail was by my side, my lantern was as far out in front of me as I could hold it. Because of that light, I safely negotiated the ditch, the fence (my uncle built a stile, steps over the fence), and crossed the field to the safety of home. What a relief to be home. A cup of warm milk (no refrigerator) would be my reward for bravery. Throughout my life, I’ve desperately needed Jesus, God’s Light here on earth, to walk in security and safety.

Yours for consistently “walking in the Light.”

David

  1. David I love your stories this verse came to mind when I read it.
” I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life.” John 8:12 NIV
I hope you enjoy your day everyone I am staying near my air conditioner today.
    God Bless

  2. Today’s reading reminds me that God alone is my only hope. Bildad, Elphaz and Zophar remind me of the “Prosperity” Gospel Teachers, always focused on themselves and what they need to do to have a comfortable life, like God is some sort of slot machine that dispenses Grace based on actions. Job knows the truth, that God is his Redeemer, there is nothing we can ever do, no task we can ever perform, that will ever change that.

  3. My Redeemer lives, amen! Thank You Jesus, for being our LIGHT! We would be so lost without You. Thank you David Mainse, for sharing that special childhood memory with us. God’s blessings dearest saints.

    “At Thy feet I fall,
    Yield Thee up my All,
    To suffer, Live, or Die
    For my Lord crucified.”

  4. Amen! Jesus is the True Light! I’ve carried a few pails of water across a field in my day so can identify with that David. It’s a blessing to see Job come to the understanding that the Lord is His Redeemer. Trust you are doing well after your eye operation Catherine and other needs on this blog are being met in Jesus name!

    • Thank you Ger all is well and today I am reading without my glasses. Still blurry and a little sore but time and resting in My Redeemer Jesus will heal. Thank you Ger and all my blog friends for your prayers. Blessings to all.

    • Beautiful link, Lynda. Holding the firefighters out west up in prayer, to You, our Lord, for safety, protection and strength. Amen.

  5. I know that my REDEEMER lives! Wonderful and uplifting today. Thank you Pastor David and everyone who posted links. Such blessings as one heals.

  6. Amen David! I also enjoyed your story. Am reading the Little House on the Prairie series and can so relate. Every day they struggles and every evening they sang for Joy!
I’m really enjoying the Book of Job and glad it’s a long one. Job 19:23 “Oh, that my words were recorded,
that they were written on a scroll,”
also testifies to the Power of Faith because we’re reading them today!!!
LOVED all the songs! Thank you! God Bless us ALL and ALL missionaries everywhere!!

  7. Good day blog friends in Christ,

I just finished reading “Heaven” by Randy Alcorn. I found it very enlightening with consistent references for supporting his point of view throughout… As we all know, many passages can be taken literally or figuratively and sometimes both. In many cases his perspective is quite different than mine… a very good read.

I’m enclosing a link to his Appendix B in his book: Literal and Figurative Interpretation. Curious – have a look

Have a blessed day friends in Christ,

    • YES!!! Job 19:26 And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my FLESH I will see God.
I thought I was misunderstanding this today! Fascinating!! Thank you David for sharing this!

  8. YeP! had lanterns and milked cows! Black/white, brown/red cows ate good green grass, gave white whole milk and yellow cream! Made butter by shaking a jar! Delicious!

Grandpa was always around, always prayed before meals, before a big storm! Prayed before the butchering began, prayed for all our neighbours who were all immigrants of some sort!
Our neighbours were Cree and Metis, mom, dad, 3 children, 2 boys (very handsome) one girl! These were our neighbours!
We played, sang together, laughed together, visited everybody, always, always, when we butchered my grandfather always buthchered enough for us plus all SURROUNDING families. It was just the thing to do!
I have shared the one-room schoolhouse I attended! I shared about Miss Snowball who came in black buggy with a black horse every Friday and told us stories from the Bible using flannelgraph! She was wonderful!
Yep! I am so thankful I had that time in my life! I heard stories about Jesus when I very small! I thank God for all that because I don`t know if it would happened any other way!

  9. going back to the l8th of August! I still see 2 people praying to the side, a man and a woman! I wonder why others saw Jesus! Interesting!

    • To me I thought it was one person sitting with his knees up to his chest but now it looks like two heads bowing. Will we ever know? Inquiring minds want to know David!!

  10. The song that came to me “Jesus my Redeemer, Name above all Names, Precious Lamb of God Messiah, Holy, Holy One. Thank You Oh my Father for sending us Your Son, and leaving Your Spirit ’till the work on earth is done”
“When I stand in Glory I shall see His face there I’ll praise My God forever in that Holy Place. Thank You Oh My Father for sending us Your Son and leaving Your Spirit ’till the work on earth is done”.

I relate to your milk/cow story as at 6 yrs of age it was my early morning chore to bring the cows home for milking from our farm 1/4 mile from our home, and in the evening drive them back: also milk one cow.

  11. I’m nearing a year reading your path through the bible, David. Thanks, it helps me keep reading. I read “yesterday’s” blog as I leave for work shortly after 6 (Yes I’m running late!) Two things in today’s reading: Vs 13-” the 1st born of death” is a good description from someone who does not know of Satin, and an oddity I did not catch before; Vs 17 – “repulsive to the children of my body” Job must have had daughters or small children in addition to the sons with families of their own
