THE GLORY OF THE LORD

Today’s Reading: 2 Chronicles 3-5

A beautiful mosaic in Jerusalem inside the Church of Saint Peter in Gallicantu. This church was built over Caiaphas’ house where Jesus was put in a dungeon for the night after His arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane. The translation of the words on the left is, “You are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church.” John Paul II, in his visit to Quebec City, referred to this Bible verse in this way, “Pierre est un petit pierre, mais Jesus est le grand Pierre” (Peter is a little stone, but Jesus is the great Rock).

Key Verse: 2 Chronicles 5:14

…the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.

There is no doubt that the blessing of the Lord was on the project of building the Temple. The glory of His presence was so intense that the priests could not stand up in their places. The authorized King James translation of 1 Chronicles 5:13-14 says, “The house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the Lord, so that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of God.” The inference is that the priests could not proceed to their assigned places of service in the liturgy of worship. God, Himself, showed up and took charge. We may ask ourselves the question, “What would happen in our churches if this same manifestation of God’s presence occurred?”

We can expect God to demonstrate His approval upon those things we’ve been called to do by Him. The heart of the promises of God, and the history of their fulfillment in the Church that Jesus said He would build, is that signs and wonders happened regularly. In the French language on the mosaic pictured above, Jesus is saying, “I will build My Church.” When we are His hands and feet, His body functioning as He intends, we will experience, “the glory of the Lord.” Let us take time right now to extend our hands to Heaven and worship. Let us gather in our churches at every opportunity for corporate worship.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Dear Lord God, in the next chapter (chapter six), eight times over Solomon asks You to “hear from Heaven.” I am totally confident that You hear me now as I pray for Your Presence to be over me, under me, and around me. As King David wrote, “In Your Presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Amen!!! (Psalm 16:11…Click here for all eleven verses of King David’s hymn of worship).

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I’m overwhelmed by God’s Presence just now. My language is not capable of expressing my heart to God. At the beginning of the Church, God gave His 120 people, who had waited in His presence in an upper room for ten days, a mighty manifestation of His Presence. There was the sound of a strong wind. Tongues of fire appeared upon their heads. They began to speak to God and of God in languages they had never learned. They spilled down onto the streets of Jerusalem with such enthusiasm that Peter had to explain that they were not actually drunk. As a result of all this, and Peter’s message in the known language, some 3,000 people that day came to believe in Jesus and were baptized (Acts 2:40-41).

In my blog two days ago, I shared with readers the story of the new Archbishop of Canterbury. The newspaper article connected him to Holy Trinity Brompton church in London (click here for a repeat of that article). It was at that church that, as I leaned against an ancient pillar so that I would not fall backwards, I experienced the glory of the Lord in a more powerful way than ever in my life. I simply could not stand, and in fact fell on my face and was unable to move for some time. I describe this in more detail in my latest book, This Far By faith, pages 33 and 34. I urge every blog reader to get your copy of this book. Crossroads asks for a donation of any amount in order to cover the costs and in support of its great outreach for Christ (click here for information as to how you can get your copy of my book right away).

Yours to believe with you for God to manifest His glory to us and through us!!!

P.S. On Father’s Day yesterday, I had the joy of “tag-team” preaching a service with my son, Ron. Below is a photo of us on the platform, as well as a photo of me with Ron and his two sons.

  1. Thanks for the photos, David! Was at an incredible worship service and awesome sermon, yesterday–felt the anointing of the Holy Spirit! Wishing all saints a most blessed day!

“There was a scar on yonder mountain-side,
    Gashed out where once the cruel storm had trod;
A barren, desolate chasm, reaching wide,
    Across the soft green sod.

“But years crept by beneath the purple pines,
And veiled the scar with grass and moss once more,
And left it fairer now with flowers and vines
    Than it had been before.

“There was a wound once in a gentle heart,
    Whence all life’s sweetness seemed to ebb and die;
And love’s confiding changed to bitter smart,
While slow, sad years went by.

“Yet as they passed, unseen an angel stole
And laid a balm of healing on the pain,
Till love grew purer in the heart made whole,
    And peace came back again.”

  2. Enjoyed your book “This Far by Faith” very much. You were and are a mighty vessel of faith in action for our Lord Jesus Christ. There are mountain moving miracles recorded in your book. A great read…

Our Lord Jesus spoke and He stilled the waters… may the Holy Spirit of God move us into action today and every day. God Bless…

  3. Have had one awesome experience of the glory coming into the sanctuary at Bible School. Thank you Lord! Sounds like a delightful experience you had yesterday father and son. Thanks for sharing the photos! And also sharing your experience Beverlee..

  4. Forgive me if this sounds critical, but in a lot of our churches today liturgy is a historic concept and seems to be avioded so the presence of the Lord depents to much on the one leading the worship instead of the Glory of Gods presents

      • whoops! computer glitches! I sometimes have to remind myself that David Mainse is a human being just like the rest of us! And again, please forgive me, but he’s a man who shares the Gospel with the world!
I believe God uses everyone on this blog to share the Gospel, to grow in our faith, to receive grace and mercy from God and share with others. WE ARE HUMAN BEINGS, AND WE TRY THE BEST WE CAN TO LOVE OTHERS AS JESUS COMMANDED US TO DO, BUT WITHOUT HIS HELP, WE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO DO THIS TASK! ALSO PLEASE REMEMBER THAT WE SHARE THE LOVE OF GOD THROUGH THOUGHT, WORD, AND DEED.
AGAIN, I DON’T MEAN TO OFFEND, BUT I NEED TO BE REMINDED THAT WE ARE HUMAN BEINGS, CREATED IN THE IMAGE OF GOD, AND SOMEDAYS ARE ROSES, SOMEDAYS ARE CACTUS! blessings to all

  5. Thank you Rev. David for all you shared in this morning’s blog. The pictures of you and your children are precious, and a must be a joy to your heart.

Thank you for leading in that powerful prayer unto the Lord; I joined with you in prayer; and in worshiping the Lord in the Spirit.

    It was a confirmation as….
prior to joining in this blog; during my time of prayer in the presence of the Lord this morning…this is the word I received…
Psalm 66:18-20 “If I had cherished sin in my heart, the lord would not have listened; but God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer. Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me!”

Thank you Jesus for Your Love for us!!!

  6. Thank-you for carrying on this wonderful blog…and thank-you for all the sharing…faith uplifting and encouraging…am amazed how often the word will be confirmed the the same day in another ministry I am taking part of….enjoyed the book also…

  7. Dear David:
I’m here at Braiside and was blessed to hear you and Ron speak on Father’s Day. It was such a great honour to sit under your preaching. It was a great reminder to keep God’s word as the most important thing in my life. Thank you for being such a great example and a true Father of the faith. I think you likely don’t want platitudes or praise but I’m just so greatly to God for you and as I see you it encourages me to follow Christ more deeply and fervently. Bless you and Norma Jean.

  8. Thank you Lord, for this means of communicating with fellow pilgrims. Scripture, commentary, prayers shared in the Love of Jesus.
