Key Verse: 1 Chronicles 5:25

And they were unfaithful to the God of their fathers, and played the harlot after the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them.

“Unfaithful!” To be full of faith is to be true to God in every aspect of our lives. No compromise with anything that would draw us away from God. Today’s reading shows us that even though we are not always faithful, when we are in trouble, we can still call upon the Lord in earnest prayer, and He will step in as we invite Him to do so. Chapter 5:20b tells us that, “They cried out to God in the battle. He heeded their prayer, because they put their trust in Him.” Imagine, they captured 50,000 camels, along with other live stock. God remains faithful!

In Chapter six we learn of the importance of “the service of song in the house of the Lord.” In Psalm 100:2 we are told to “serve the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful singing.” Just a few days ago in our reading in Ephesians 5:18-19, we were told to “be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with our hearts to the Lord.” This is important to God. Therefore, it should be important to us!

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Thank You, Lord, for hearing and answering the prayers I offer to You each day. I cry out to You in the heat of the battle, and also when all is at peace. Please give me more grace so that I may be constantly faithful to You. I make melody with my heart to You! This is a time for singing and music. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I find that the thoughts that come to my mind (I confess to wandering thoughts in these chapters with so many hard-to-pronounce names) are, as they say, “off the wall.” When I read about the tribe of Gad (5:11), I thought of my minister when I was 6 or 7. His name was Rev. Stuart Woodland. My Dad was away because of the war, and the minister felt some responsibility to do what he could to help my mother to raise me well. He would threaten me by saying, “David, you be a good boy or I’ll take the gad to you.” I never found out for sure what a “gad” was, nor did I want to know. There was a twinkle in Rev. Woodlands eye when he said this, but I still took him seriously. I did learn well from the Bible stories we read every day that God does send punishment for wrongdoing. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” (Psalm 111:10a).

One of my favourite scenes in Journey to Christmas, a Crossroads documentary production, is when our travellers rode the camels through the desert, experienced a sand storm, and spent the night in a Bedouin tent. Click here for a taste of life as it may have been back in the days of 1st Chronicles.

Yours for continuing to read and learn, in spite of 1,000+ strange names,

David

  6. thank you for all your prayers,

I liked the fact that we click and hear someone read the Scriptures, for me, it is like having another person in the room with me,
I believe God’s Hand guided David Mainse to do this blog!
It has helped to bring people become more “honest” about their situations, thoughts,
I believe that we still have many more walls to tear down, and as these walls give way to the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ, that transparency will flow to others and others will be encouraged to share more, and maybe to the Holy Spirit calling them, enlightening them, gathering them, to the one True Spirit, the Triune God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
I believe we all have seen many bloggers sharing stories that may never have been released from a person’s heart if it were not for this blog
    I believe people feel safe,
I am thankful for David Mainse becoming more honest and open
A study calld REGRETS, REALITY AND RESTORATION is a very good study for all ages
my Pastor had the study, it is only 4 weeks long, I believe if you contact on Google THE LUTHERAN HOUR you may be able to get the CD and book,.
it was very good , I told my Pastor I wished we could have this study 40 years ago,
God tells us to forgive others as He has forgiven us, yes, that is true, we can forgive BUT sometimes it takes a longer time to forget, and that is ok because God understands, forgetting is a process
God bless everyone on this blog,
    Numbers 6:24-26
    “The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make His face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you,
The Lord life up His countenance upon you and give you peace”

    • Thank you Sah for your encouraging words and you are so very right. Praying God will answer you soon about your situation. Love in Christ. Catherine

  7. Am connecting late today but thanks for all your comments David and fellow bloggers. Beverlee, am praying for you and your Mom. Sah, I just read two postings you made to me that I hadn’t seen before. Thank you for your prayers and yes after praying the prayer of Jabez yesterday, and loosing all hope of ever retrieving my memory card, I found it in a place I had searched more than once before. Amazing! Let’s keep asking and believing. God will answer in His good timing.

    • it kind of reminds me that GOd never gives up on us! He searches here and there, and is with us all the time, and in my own life He was always trying to steer me into the right path but I had my free will, however HE NEVER GAVE UP!He“s worked through many circumstances in my life
I mislayed something and I searched and did find it eventually BUT IT MOVED ME TO CLEAR THINGS OUT!
Thank you Lord God for looking for me, not giving up on me, for taking all my sins upon the cross, for the freedom from past sins, for YOUR unconditional love!
off to the pool, praying the Lord will send me an envelope with $500,000 in it, put it where I would know it is from YOU and it is for me…Thank you Lord, I have laid out my plans to YOU for Your guidance, I pray this in the Name of Jesus Christ, amen

  8. God is so loving, forgiving and faithful…as revealed in scripture over and over again, and yet over and over again His children continue in their disobedient and willful ways. When will we ever learn???
Jesus, I pray hold me close, under the shadow of Your Wings, that I would not stray, but when I do Lord, and I know I do, I pray you draw me back quickly!!!

“I love you Lord, and I lift my voice to worship You, O my soul rejoice, take joy
MY KING, in what You hear, may it be a sweet, sweet sound in Your ear!!” I pray, Amen.

  9. Agreeing with you in pray Sah, for your finances to be met, In Jesus Name I pray, Amen!!
