Key Verse: 1 Kings 19:12

After the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

Here we are brought to a standstill as we catch a glimpse of the stillness there is in God. Let us remember how Jesus slept while His disciples struggled with the storm. Jesus brings a stillness to our lives (Mark 4:35-41). By faith we understand this and we come to rest in Him.
The revelation of God to Elijah was preceded by violent signs. We must understand that if we choose to follow God’s call and engage head on with the enemy of our souls, we will be thrown into the midst of the struggle. This is war! Those who engage in the struggle must do so with total confidence in the assurance of the ultimate victory of our God.This will be our constant experience as we live with inner stillness, while engaged in the struggle.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I’m listening for Your gentle whisper. Father, in spite of the wind, the earthquake, and the fire, I pray that I will hear Your “still small voice.” In the Name of the One who said, “My peace I give unto you,” the Lord of all, Jesus Christ (John 14:27), Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I have great memories from 1978 when Norma-Jean and I saved for quite a while to take our sons to Israel. The girls had come to Israel with us a couple of years before this. The boys’ high school principal, David Craig, told us, “Your sons will learn more in that month than they could ever learn in the same time in high school. You have my permission to take them out of school for a month.” Reynold, Ron and I backpacked from place to place, and Norma-Jean, with a friend’s van, would meet us with supplies from time to time.

On Mt. Carmel we read the chapters we’ve been reading in this blog for the past two days, and we wondered how Elijah could beat Ahab back to Samaria (18:45-46). Then as we climbed down the east side of Mt. Carmel, we realized that Elijah probably went down the way we were taking, while Ahab, with his horses and chariots, had to go down the gentle slope of the mountain which went in a westerly direction, the opposite direction from Samaria, before he could turn east again.

In a very real sense, I’m travelling every day through the land of the Bible as I read, meditate, pray, and write this blog. Between 4:00 and 6:00 a.m. I am “still.” The telephone never rings. No one knocks at the door, except Jesus. The old hymn says, “Blessed quietness, holy quietness, blest assurance in my soul!” (click here for the lyrics).

Yours for waiting on God in the quiet place,

David

  1. I also appreciate the history of our country and other countries.
I also realize that God has never forsaken His people, we had Christian leaders in the past and I do believe we have Christian leaders today, but they somehow do not want to speak out. I wonder how, for instance, Preston Manning who is a Christian can sit in the Parliament of Canada and hear what is happening and what rules and regulations are being put in place and some of these procedures are very questionaable….. I wonder how someone can sit and listen and maybe even vote on different legislation and realize that not all legislation is for our edification……I wonder how Christians can balance the day if they serve in governments….I just wonder….BUT IN THE BIG PICTURE I KNOW THAT GOD IS PRESENT AND HE KNOWS EVERYTHING THAT IS GOING ON…..back to square one for me……I wonder………

  2. I love the Lord still small voice help me Lord to always be obedient to Your call in my life daily to reach out to others and do as you command me God Bless you David and Norma Jean that God contine to give you stength untill we see Jesus in the clouds Amen

  3. So in the supporting verse in today’s blog (Mark 4:35-41), the apostles still didn’t really know who Jesus was at this point?

They seemed very surprised when he calmed the storm.

  4. Thank u for today’s and every day’s study Rev. M.
Today is National Day of Prayer in the States:
    Heavenly Father,

We come to You in the Name that is above every name—Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Our hearts cry out to You.

Knowing that You are a prayer-answering, faithful God—the One we trust in times like these—we ask that You renew our spirits, revive our churches, and heal our land.

We repent of our sins and ask for Your grace and power to save us. Hear our cry, oh God, and pour out Your Spirit upon us that we may walk in obedience to Your Word.

We are desperate for Your tender mercies. We are broken and humbled before You.

Forgive us, and in the power of Your great love, lift us up to live in Your righteousness.

We pray for our beloved nation. May we repent and return to You and be a light to the nations. And we pray for our leaders and ask that You give them wisdom and faith to follow You.

Preserve and protect us, for You are our refuge and only hope.

Deliver us from all fears except to fear You, and may we courageously stand in the Truth that sets us free.

We pray with expectant faith and grateful hearts.

    In Jesus’ name, our Savior.

    Amen.

  5. Amen!!

A Hymn: Test and Music: Larry Mayfield
“In this quiet moment, Jesus, speak to me, fill my heart with Thy Love divine, Your Power let me see.. Isaiah 30:15 “In quietness and trust is your strength”

Through the storms of life…listening to that still small voice, and hear. Jesus I pray in your Mighty Holy Name. Amen!

  6. Oh the peace and joy that come from resting in the quietness and stillness of the Lord (Psalm 37:7)! Thank you David for reminding me of this.

  7. Thank you Lynda for that beauatiful prayer! It reminds me of the Lord’s Prayer!
I’ve learned a “wee” bit in life, we must completely TRUST IN GOD FOR EVERYTHING IN OUR LIVES!
and GOD SAYS IN SCRIPTURE THAT HE WILL NOT FORSAKE US!
and IT SAYS IN SCRIPTURE THAT HE ALWAYS IS WATCHING US! and SCRIPTURE TELLS US THAT HE WILL SUPPLY US ALL OUR NEEDS!
and SCRIPTURE SAYS THAT GOD WILL PROVIDE ABUNDANTLY SO THAT WE `MAY`HAVE ABUNDANT LIFE!
