Key Verse: 1 Samuel 8:5

…and said to him, “Look, you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways. Now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.”

Throughout history there seems to be a pattern that repeats itself over and over. We don’t learn well from history. There were the sons of Eli, and now the sons of Samuel. In each case the next generation failed to serve the God of their fathers faithfully. Surely they knew the consequences of their actions; nevertheless they failed. There is a strong tendency in us all to act as the popular song says, “I did it my way.” We’ve all heard little children say, “No! I do it!” It is my fervent desire that this daily blog will help us all say, “Yes! God’s way!”
God’s way did not satisfy the majority of the Israelites. He wanted to be their King, and it seemed to work very well for the people. They were prosperous. They were safe from oppression by their enemies all the days when Samuel functioned as their judge, before they had a king. But they were not content. The Scripture says, “Godliness with contentment is great gain” (1 Timothy 6:6).

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, may I be given grace every day to be content. You are my King, my absolute Monarch. I want to obey You in all things. I receive my instructions from You. I pray that I will steadfastly resist the pressures to conform to the world around me. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

For my personal devotions I’ve just read Romans 8:26-30 and also Romans 11:25-36/ Romans 12:1-2. The answer to the human problem of being faithful to God is here. It takes a positive and a negative charge to release electrical power. So it is with the release of the power of God in my life. Positive – “Be conformed to the image of His Son.” Negative – “Do not be conformed to this world.” Again I think of the electrical analogy. We have a built-in transformer. “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Not long ago, as I drove along Burnt Hills road just north of Kingston, an electrical storm was raging. Right in front of me I saw lightening hit a transformer which was up on a pole. Of course, everyone’s lights went out in the area, and power was not restored until the electrical crew arrived to make repairs. There is a storm raging all around, a storm that can knock out my connection to God’s power. I count on God’s power crew, the Word and the Spirit, to be on hand constantly to keep me in complete union with Him.

Yours for a constant flow, without interruption, of God’s power,

David

P.S. Romans 10:1 and 11:26 encourage us to pray with Paul that “Israel” “may be saved.” This is so very important for eternal salvation, but today we should apply our prayers to the nation of Israel. There is an election there!! Pray for God’s will to be done!!!

  1. So glad to receive today’s blog at this time (I expect you will be surprised as to how many followers were disappointed to not be able to sign on at 6 am this morning).
    Shalom,
    Graham.

  2. I tried to get on to 100words and NOTHING ….What happened?
It finanly came as I patienly waited PTL ….R…

  3. I lost connection to God’s Word this morning. Knowing what I know of Eastern Canada’s weather today, I don’t think it was an electrical storm. Thank u for fixing the connection Rev. M. (sort of).
Seems like it is human nature to think that we know better than the previous generation, especially if we aren’t consulting God daily.
Praying God’s will is done in the choice of Israel’s leader today.
    God bless.

  4. I did not receive it either, but went into 100words.ca and was able to get it there.

Thank you for your thoughts today Pastor David and I Praise God for this blog and the constant flow in my life, through The Word and encouragement of my fellow bloggers.

An update on our son Neil (PTSD and bi polar ). He is much calmer and is doing better. Thanks for your continued prayers.

    • This happened to me as well but when I went into March 16 was able to retrieve March 17. ‘The connection’ is severed from time to time and I have had to re-register. However, the disconnection is a good analogy and confirms what Pastor David was saying when a storm causes the electrical power to shut down until repaired. Great message, David, for us today. Sad about Samuel’s sons who did not follow his father’s faith in God. Reminds us to pray for all young people, teens, and adults who have drifted away from the Lord. Prayers for Israel today in their election day. Also, for Pastor David as he prepares to Speak in Jerusalem. We need another outpouring of God’s Spirit in this world – and I always pray, ‘Lord, begin with me”..to my town or city, province, Country and throughout the world. Also, I am just amazed at all the photos taken by Reynold. It would be great to have these on a DVD and make it available to support Huntley Street. Also, could work nicely in a book setting. In fact, 100 words could also be put into a devotional. So, Pastor David, these may be a few ideas. Blessings to all. Have a great day. Samuel

    • We didn’t get the blog yesterday but that didn’t stop us. We went ahead and read the next 2 chapters anyway. It was great today getting the blog.

  7. Hello David, I have been receiving your blogs for over a year now and I just love receiving them! I’m praying that as long as you have strength and you feel that God is leading you to continue with these blogs, that you will.

I had to change my Password yesterday and I didn’t receive your blog for today and so I was able to pull yesterday’s up and use the arrow to carry on with today’s blog. I had to ‘reapply’ so to speak so I trust that I will get tomorrow’s blog as always!

I just love the photography that your son does. It’s amazing. I am praying that I will be able to go to Israel one of these times. I want to go so much and, so far, it hasn’t worked out for different reasons.

I have been a Partner with 100 Huntley Street since 1983, although I missed some years in there as I had to go back to work for awhile.

The 100 Huntley Street programme has been a real source of strength for me through the years and has drawn me closer to God.

Thank you for your faithfulness and others on the team!!

    Chris

  8. Would you be kind & send me today’s message (which I did not receive as usual) as I then forward it to a friend who is for some reason not able to get it himself. Normally I receive the daily blog without any problem. I would really appreciate this. Thank you in advance. This blog certainly sets me up for the day. God Bless You for this.

  9. I have been trying for over a week to have your posting sent to my inbox, but unsuccessfully. Could you please assist me with this? I have called your office directly, and they told me that this was the best way to accomplish this. You have my phone # on file should you need to contact me. Thank you and God Bless. Ellen.

    • we will try to re-subscribe for you. Try checking your “junk email” box, in case your email program is filtering the blog emails.
      God bless.

  10. I love the bottom photo, Reynold! Thanks, David, for your analogy, today. “There is a storm raging all around, a storm that can knock out my connection to God’s power. I count on God’s power crew, the Word and the Spirit, to be on hand constantly to keep me in complete union with Him.” Praying with you and all the saints for a constant, uninterrupted flow of God’s power. Amen!

For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen. Rom 11:26

  11. Tried to get the blog this morning, was unable…also not even through going through Mar 16…however, it is now in the P.M. and I was able to connect through the Mar 16th, but not directly for Mar 17th

Thank you David for your analogy re Power connection and your prayer…prayed with you for God’s continued connection.

    Praise God Benjamin Netanyahu won!!!!

  12. I realized this blog was not posted at its usual time and I just shut everything down! It’s interesting the comments about the blog and not being there at the usual time! BUT PRAISE THE LORD everything came together! I have realized that I need to focus on other things when something doesn’t happen. Today I waited nearly 1 1/2 hours to see a chiro but that was ok, I just walked in and used that time to pray, chat with others, and pray somemore….I am waiting to her of the elections in Israel, please continue to pray for the people of Israel….pray for David Mainse as he prepares to speak to people in that area! blessings to all..
going to a Bible Study entitled Regrets, Realities & Relationships…excellent study!

  13. well Lord I need Your help! The Bible study was good! It brought down some walls that have been built up among people at a church, that’s nothing new! We hang onto things because we are not sure what people would think of us if “they knew”, so, I am thankful for this study, and now Lord I need Your help! I am open to caring for children with my wierd sleep pattern, I would enjoy doing that kind of work, I talked with Shawn so he will keep his ears open should he hear a conversation about someone needing a reliable person for their children, I am thankful I talked a bit with Pastor and I pray someone will be able to drive me on Friday and I need to be ready. Lord I pray for a financial breakthrough to clear things up. I love you Lord and I am thankful for this Bible study on this blog, I am thankful for all the people who respond! Be with those who are recovering from illnesses, bless the people in Israel, bless David Mainse as he prepares for his trip in May and for his invitation to speak to leaders on May 24, 2015! Thank you Lord for all the blessings of this day! May tomorrow be a day of miracles! In Jesus Name I Pray AMEN!

  14. Thank you ever so much David for your daily devotioal. It really keeps me on track. I am a senior and God’s Word is so precious to me and do not want to quit growning spiritually. My desire is to be a witness in the seniors complex I an living in, a great mission field , I am so burdened for these precious people.
