LORD, REVEAL YOUR GLORY!

Today’s Reading: 1 Samuel 3-4

The Ark of the Covenant, as depicted in a replica of the Old Testament Tabernacle at Timna Park in Israel. We read today how the sons of Eli carried the Ark into battle where it was captured by Israel’s enemies.

Key Verse: 1 Samuel 3:10

Now the Lord came and stood and called as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant hears.”

The first verse of our reading is a sad commentary on the spiritual life of Israel. “Rare” and “No widespread revelation,” says it all. But God spoke to Samuel and Eli was knowledgeable enough to recognize that God wanted someone to listen to Him. God is a communicating God, but are we listening? It’s hard to hear that “still, small voice” (1 Kings 19:12) in the midst of the hustle and bustle of life. This is one of the main reasons why getting up early each day to wait on God is so very important.

God cut Eli’s family off from His blessing because, as our reading informs us, Eli did not restrain his sons from their vile behaviour. This resulted in the tragic capture of the Ark by the enemies of Israel, the death of Eli’s sons, and Eli himself. Most tragic of all was the name of Eli’s grandson, “Ichabod,” meaning that the glory of God had departed from Israel. In our churches, let us reverse the decline and bring God’s glory in Jesus Christ into sharp focus. John said of Jesus, “We beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14b).

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord Jesus, I take time right now to spend listening for Your voice. In the quietness of this moment, I wait on You. I meditate on the revelation of Your glory! Hallelujah! Grant that I may help to make that revelation widespread throughout the whole world. Please keep me from being so selfish as to keep that revelation to myself. In Your empowering Name I pray, Amen!!!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Eli was the ripe old age of 98 when he died. I was thinking of Eli’s passing this past week. If I live as long as Eli, I’ve got twenty years to go. Whatever time I may have left, I want to serve God faithfully. I want to serve you dear blog readers. I want to serve the leaders of the Crossroads Family of Ministries. I’m absolutely sure that God did not allow me to live this long in order that I may sit around and twiddle my thumbs! At my age Winston Churchill was serving as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. I’m asking for advice from you who read my blog. What do you think I should spend my remaining days in doing? Please pray for me and ask God to give you a word for me!

Yours for the glory of God, even in humour,

David

P.S. I’m thankful that, unlike Eli’s sons, my sons are serving God well. The eldest is a missionary in Africa and our blog photographer, and my youngest son serves as Chief Ministry Officer of the ministry sponsoring this blog, Crossroads Christian Communications Inc. Lately on 100 Huntley Street, as we approach program number 10,000, Ron has been doing a series of “Flashback” segments (click here for a Flashback to 1978 and here for one from 1981).

  1. Just keep doing what you are doing Mr. Mainse! This is what God wants you to be doing right now, you are a survivor, the cancer is gone, your here! I truly believe you are the right person to be going to speak in May of this year! I don’t believe that was just the “luck of the draw” God spoke to the people who called you and they believe that you are equiped to go and speak! Somehow I feel this talk you are going to give is crucial! God will not let his people go! The Jewish people are God’s chosen people! I also believe that Christians throughout the world need to pray for Mr. Netanyahu, Israel’s Prime Minister? Forgive me if I have it wrong! I also believe that the time is very crucial for North America to pray for Christian leaders, both in our communities and leaders of our countries! In regards to this blog: many, many people are reading this blog! God bless our technology today! Going back to the question? what should you be doing? I say again, exactly what you are doing! God bless you.

  2. David, in response to your request for ideas for you at this season of your life.
Whenever I hear and see you on Yes TV it sparks my faith and encourages me in my Christian walk. I would like to see you as often as possible in some programming on Yes TV.
I’m 83 now and have supported Crossroads financially since it began and visited the live program a few times. I’m finding myself slowed down too much!

  3. To Ann Mainse, who edits this blog, there is a typo in the spelling of Foreman underneath the title of the video:
Flashback: George Formean’s Life Changing Moment.

  4. Thanks for today’s prayer. Public speaking/prayer vigils is what I feel you should spend time doing, David. The word from God I received for you is “prayer for peace”.

    Jesus Prays for All Believers
“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will[a] believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.” John 17:20-21

Wishing all saints a blessed day!

  5. I looked this up:
“The spiritually mature person can keep growing in wisdom, love, joy, and other spiritual gifts. In fact, many of this world’s greatest prayer warriors are senior citizens. In spite of changes, losses, and chronic health conditions, elderly people can continue to cultivate their relationship with God.” (and their spouses. ( I added that:-))
Love getting to know our bible thru your teachings Rev. M. Thank you.
    Blessings fellow saints.

  6. I believe you should be a voice in Canada for the moral decline in our nation, such as abortion, marriage that is no longer a man and a woman, drugs and all of our moral failures. I know you have done this in the past and encourage you to continue. You are a man people respect and you have a voice to speak out. Of course continue the blog, they are a blessing. May the Lord continue to keep you well and strong.
    Bless you and your family.

  7. Your blog is very important influence on me. I have enjoyed reading the bible and learning what it means through your 100 words. They help me understand it better and I am more able to relate to what the bible is Teaching me. It is the closest I get to going to church at this time. Thank you for your diligent work on this blog.

  8. Pastor David Mainse. “Take the ‘high road’ in Canada to share the ‘love’ of Christ. Our country is increasingly becoming secular and many brands of Christianity is totally dishonoring to Christ – many feeling we are bigots, always judging people, negative and on and on… the Disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit and were filled with JOY…declared the word of God with BOLDNESS…we truly need a genuine demonstration of the Power of God in our land so that Christians and NON-Christians will NOT be able to deny the power of God at work…like the incident in Act 3 & 4, the healing of the crippled beggar, 4:14, they could not deny what God had done..”since they could see the man who had been healed STANDING THERE with them, there was nothing they could say” . God is using you and he will continue to place His Burden on your heart. A good balance, I guess, is talked to Norma-Jean. For whatever you want to do will also impact her. Maybe you are doing what God wants you to do. Just ‘being’ there – an encouragement to believers – reminding us of where our eyes should be directed, areas we need to support, pray for. Encouragement, Encouragement, Encouragement that challenges all of us to be encouraged, take up the torch for Christ…yes, just staying put and being that inspiration that you are – in hundreds of ways – you have done it!!! Now continue to inspire others to do it…encourage, inspire, challenge the Christian community…expose obstacles to faith and revival…God is using you. I am inspired. I prayed again this morning because I have always been affected by this chapter because of my name, Samuel. Literally, I am saying, “Speak, for your servant is listening”. I want to be used by God – I want to keep doing what I am doing – but listening to see if has other ways “to be used by God.” Praise His Wonderful Name. We give him all the Praise & Glory. God is good all the time! Samuel

  9. Keep the blogs coming. They bless me every day. I believe we need someone of your stature to speak to all the immorality happening in our country of Canada. It hurts me to think of what our children are seeing and taught. Marriage
between same sex, and couples co-habituating even among Christian youth is
destroying our country. And the abortion rate is appalling. I would like to see you speak to our Prime Minister . I believe he is a believer in God and hopefully would like to see changes also. So, whatever God empowers you to do, we will pray for you. God Bless you and your lovely wife.

  10. Reading this blog later today and I will say Amen to all the responses as the Lord can use you in all these areas, Pastor David. You are making an impact right now with this blog and appearing more in public and prayer vigils are important for a spiritual awakening. Making disciples of all nations. Preparing people to stand and be ready for the Rapture.

  11. I thank God for all the comments today! When it comes to morals in our country, no one can change that anymore! It is too late! HOWEVER the people of the world, Christian people, can all PRAY WITHOUT CEASING! God and God alone will change the world! If we could see where Christians are located in our world, we would be so surprised! I believe there are more Christians than non-Christians. Today is March l5, 2015 let us take time every day in our own lives and pray for restoriation in our world starting with our own lives, our communities, our provinces, our countries, I also believe that each one of us has some stumbling blocks that we need God`s help to remove! God loves EVERY PERSON unconditionallty!

The Holy Spirit has certainly moved in my life! I had a rough time realizing that God loves me no what I`ve done! I liked the phrase “BLOOM WHERE YOU ARE GROWING RIGHT NOW!“

  12. AMEN!!! Samuel .
Bless you rev David . I have never been able to read the bible with understanding & you have delivered that to me.
I so feel you are under the blessing of our LORD JESUS.
Thank you for listening & obeying the LORD . I have failed to do that but I am listening now & willing to obey .
You are in the right place & right time Rev David . Keep up the good work you are a faithful servant of the LORD.
