SUCCESS

Suggested Reading: Joshua 1

The Broad Wall is an ancient defensive wall in the Old City of Jerusalem. The wall was unearthed in the 1970s and dated to the reign of King Hezekiah (late 8th century BC). The Broad Wall is a massive defensive structure, seven metres thick. The motivation for building the wall was the expected invasion of Judea by Sennacherib. The wall is referred to in Nehemiah 3:8 and Isaiah 22:9-10. This would have been similar to the walls of Jericho as described in the Book of Joshua.

Key Verse: Joshua 1:8

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

Today, “You will make your way prosperous,” and “You will have good success.” How can I predict this with confidence? The answer is that you are faithfully participating with me in this blog. You are confessing God’s Word with your mouth. You are meditating consistently on what you read. And you are practicing what you are learning. Yes? Yes!

Four times in our reading the Lord says, ” Be strong and of good courage.” Could we agree that God wants to get through to us with this message? Yes? And yes, again! If we could listen in on God’s conversation with Joshua, we might observe other ways that God emphasizes His message, but for us His way is to repeat Himself. May I suggest that all of us repeat 4X these words out loud if possible, “BE STRONG AND OF GOOD COURAGE!”

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Lord God, I’ve held in my hand Your answer to spiritual and even material prosperity as I’ve read Your Word today. Grant that Your Word will permeate my being. May Truth fill every cell of my body, even more than the breath in my lungs or the blood in my veins. I pray this prayer with fervency, and in Jesus’ Name. Amen!

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

Many of the sites of Joshua’s conquest are in what is today Palestinian Authority territory. There are many locations in which David Reynold Mainse took photographs at no cost to Crossroads which, God willing, we’ll see here on my blog as we read through Joshua, Judges, 1st and 2nd Samuel and on. For example, Jericho, with its ruins of what once were walls, the fountain of Elisha, and many events that took place in Samaria with King Ahab and Jezebel are presently under the control of Palestinians. I’m also looking forward to seeing pictures from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, where many more Biblical events took place. My son spent over three months in the pursuit of excellent photographs. I give him these words today, “be strong and of good courage.” His current mission is in Uganda, Africa. Please remember him in your prayers. His strong and courageous wife, Kathy, faithfully serves the Lord together with my son in a ministry called, “World Embrace” (WE).

Yours for strength and courage,

David

P.S. Here is a clip from 100 Huntley Street that illustrates strength and courage. It highlights Nick Walenda’s amazing tight rope walk across Niagara Falls a few years back. Did you see it? It was on almost every major TV channel across North America. As he walked you could hear him saying, “Thank You, Jesus!” and “Praise You, Lord!” (click here).

  1. I understand the feeling that Nick Walenda was embracing the day he walked the rope!! It’s very inspiriing! May God bless the ‘WORLD EMBRACE” mission of Reynold and kathy Mainse! We certainly need much more embracing in our world today! In fact, I would encourage everyone to “hug” someone at least once a week (or more) there is something about the human touch that brings a good feeling to a person!
Someone who saw me before Christmas at our Community Carol Festival came up on Friday and hugged me. I had to be reminded of who the person was but it sure was a nice feeling! Today someone “hugged” me through a telephone conversation! I was so appreciatative of the call! “What the world needs now, is love, sweet love, because that’s just the thing that there is so little of” I’m sure that song is on U Tube! snowing lots, but I went swimming! so thankful for God leading me to the pool 20 years ago this coming April. peace and grace to all.

  2. Yes Sah we do need hugs every week at our church for a greeting we give each
other hugs some like shaking hands. I like the hugs myself, and we need to smile
more. Have a good day at church blogers wether with everyone or just being
with the Lord whatching it on t.v.

  3. What a marvellous spectactular event that was as many prople watched Nick Walenda walk that tight rope to victory. Such is life as each one of us walk our own “tight wire” of life here on earth. We can do it alone as many do and take our chances in life hoping that we’ll make it someway, someday, somehow OR- we can place our trust in the LORD JESUS CHRIST and believe HIM to take us through life. For the ist 30 years of my life, I, foolishly depended on self to guide me through difficult times, made a lot of costly mistakes and virtually ended up in misery with the end being worst off than the beginning; then I got invited to this little country church close to home in Grassie Ontario. I reluctantly accepted an invitation with my wife to attend a service in January 1975, listened to the message very intently whereupon the LORD spoke to my heart with HIS still small voice and together with my lovely wife, we gave our hearts to the LORD JESUS and never looked back. YOU can take this whole world BUT give me JESUS. Anybody out there know that tune ?

  4. WOW!

  5. Great pic of ancient wall around Old Jerusalem. Thank u Reynold. I pray God will keep Reynold et al safe in Uganda and bring many souls to Jesus.
I don’t like unnecessary dangerous situations or tempting the Lord. It reminds me of when the Devil told Jesus to jump off the wall and get God to save him. That’s just me.
This old hymn reminds me of my beautiful Alberta.

Blessings on this Sabbath fellow saints.

  6. Beautiful photography by your son Mr. Mainse.
I have a question of the wall pictured above.
Was it originally 7 metres thick? It doesn’t appear the thickness in perspective of other items in the photograph.

    Love this blog 🙂

  7. The Lord’s encouragement to Joshua is special; letting him know that Moses will no longer be there, but that He, the Lord Himself, will be with him….that word in the book of Joshua, has been an encouragement to often…Praise God for His Powerful and Living word…and for this blog daily providing fresh manna…Thank you Rev. David and your team!!
