BLESSINGS

Today’s Reading: Deuteronomy 28

Click scripture link to read online or HERE to listen online (then click the symbol of the audio speaker above the scripture portion on the right-hand side).

Looking east toward Masada, the dead remains of a tree and the cracked earth depicts the harshness of this desert area. This picture represents the world without the water of life. We choose "LIFE!" Jesus is the "LIVING WATER!" Jesus said to the woman at the well, "If you only knew the gift God has for you, and who you are speaking to, you would ask Me, and I would give you LIVING WATER!" At least twice in every daily 100 Huntley Street telecast, dry and thirsty souls are invited to come to Jesus and drink of Him. "LIVING WATER" is offered because people who love people give generously and sacrificially to bring JESUS' LIVING WATER TO WHERE THE PEOPLE ARE!!!

Key Verse: Deuteronomy 28:2

And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God…

In verse one of today’s reading, Moses makes it clear that he does not refer to all the previous rules and regulations he has given the people, but only that which he states “today.” In chapters 26 and 27, he repeats the word “today” four times. These chapters were all one message. In our readings to come, we’ll see why Israel brought blessings and curses upon themselves. There are 68 verses in Deuteronomy 28; only the first 14 have to do with blessings, 54 are about curses. What does that emphasis say to us? Obedience to God brings blessings, and disobedience brings curses. This is the principle of “sowing and reaping.” The Apostle Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, wrote in Galatians 6:7, “Do not be deceived; God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” Let us remember always that every action has a consequence. Blessings “overtake” us, and so do curses. This is one of Moses’ final messages to all Israel. We may want to pay close attention.

PRAYER FOR TODAY:

Overtake me, Lord God, with Your blessings. Please give me the grace of obedience to these final commands given by Moses. Help me to know the difference between right and wrong and to always do what is right. Lord Jesus, You gave a prayer which made a sinful man right in God’s sight. I pray that prayer now… “God, be merciful to me, a sinner.” Amen! (check out Luke 18:9-14).

100 PERSONAL WORDS:

I remember a husband and wife team who joined us in the early years of the daily 100 Huntley Street television ministry, Rev. Don and Edith Osborne. Edith set us up in the new generation of computers, about which I knew absolutely nothing. Don set up telephone counselling centres across Canada, which were the means of bringing thousands of people to the knowledge of Jesus as their Saviour and Lord. They are retired now and live on Vancouver Island. In chapel one morning, Don told us that he had dreamed of a highway with two cars travelling on it. The first car had written on its side the word “understanding.” The second car was marked “peace.” The “peace” car was seen to “overtake” and pass the first. Don realized that God was confirming to him that the peace which comes from God overtakes and surpasses our understanding (see Philippians 4:6-7). God gave peace to Don in the midst of illness and proceeded to heal him shortly thereafter. I have been so very blessed by people God has sent to work with me through the years. I have truly been overtaken by blessings!!!!!

Yours for God’s blessings,

David

P.S. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Last evening’s live-streamed webcast was blessed by God!!! There still is time to tuck an over-and-above year-end offering in an envelope and have it postmarked December 31, 2014, or you could still call with credit card in hand 1-800-265-3100 and give your best final offering to the Lord’s work for 2014. The address to write on your envelope is Crossroads, Box 5100, Burlington, ON, L7R 4M2. Or you can click HERE and donate online. As I’ve shared earlier this week, Dr. John Hull is with his elderly Dad and Mom over these days. His Evangelist Father is very ill and may not be there for John much longer. This year-end effort to help lift the financial burden from John’s shoulders onto ours has encouraged him greatly. John has pre-recorded the 100 Huntley Street telecasts for January 1 & 2, 2015, and I expect him back live with Ron, Moira and others for Monday, January 5th. Please keep John, his Dad and Mom, and all the team in your prayers. Deuteronomy 30:19 tells us, “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on Heaven and Earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!” What a great New Year’s resolution this message from Moses makes! The ministry of proclaiming the Salvation message to people everywhere is a life and death matter. We choose LIFE!!!!!

  1. David
I just got back a day yesterday from celebration Christmas with my family and
enjoyed it very much. I want to continue with our blog in 2015. My computer

I do watch 100 Huntley street on T.V. I pray that God will give you over and above
with all the finance that is needed. I pray also for Don Hull and his family that
God will give them the peace, comfort and strength that they need during this time
    In Jesus Christ name
    Amen

  2. Oh the wrath of the Lord in Deuteronomy 28! People were (and still are) too weak and selfish in nature to understand and obey the discipline of the Lord and to look and live beyond themselves to live with the purpose of glorifying God and his kingdom. Thank you God for the gift of your Son and our Saviour Jesus Christ that we would be forgiven of our sins and granted eternal life. We are too weak without You, Lord! Thank You for guiding us to truth. “For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted” Luke 18:14.

Happy New Year’s Eve, fellow saints and God’s continued blessings to you! Amen!

  3. The webcast last night was directed to the followers and supporters of this ministry and puts it on a much more on a personal level. It was like we were there with David and Ron. My hope is that this narrowcast is the first of many. A great way minister to, and bless my fellow 100words bloggers and others that care about ministry of Crossroads. Thank you David and Ron, I was blessed.

  4. thanks for the live streaming last night! It was a wonderful, personal way of connecting with us. I have been on board since the 70;s and have watched the Fruit of this ministry grow grow and grow! You are a blessing to me and thousands more. I encourage you to have more of these live!!!

  5. Someone who loves me as a sister in Christ sent this prayer:

Father, Thank You for each and every day You have blessed us here on earth. Thank You for Your tender mercies. Thank You for giving us friends and family to share joys and sorrows with. I ask You to bless my friends, relatives, brothers and sisters in Christ and those I care deeply for, who are reading this right now. Where there is joy, give them continued joy, Where there is pain or sorrow, give them your peace and mercy. Where there is self-doubt, release a renewed confidence. Where there is need, fulfill their needs. Bless their homes, families, finances, their goings and their comings. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  6. The 100 words that comes to my e-mail account does not show the bubble for comments. I always have to go and put the website in to get that. This is a bit of a new change for me. Also, today’s e-mail did not have the speaker that you click on to both hear and read the Bible portion. I did get the narrow cast last night though. I will re-read this day’s blog again tonight. I have a lot to do today preparing for my husband’s funeral on Friday. Have a wonderful New Year ahead in 2015, all.

    • Doreen, may you sense Our Lord Jesus’ Presence and Comfort during this very difficult time. May His Peace and Love envelop you!!!

      • Thank you so much, Gisela. The Lord has been so good. I am comforted. In reading the death notices in the Toronto Star today, I saw another Ross. Ross Ingram. I believe he was on 100 Huntley Street in the distant past. He died yesterday and he was a wonderful preacher. He came to World Vision also when I worked there. They are now with the Lord!!

  7. Facinating reading today, as always! We could not get the live streaming last night with our iPad, however contributed online. Many blessings, health and happiness to everyone in 2015!!

  8. My husband and I watched your webcast last night. We appreciate all you do, your blog and 100 Huntley. I sent in our year end donation just now on line. We have been supporters since the 1980’s. We feel that this is a very worthwhile ministry! Thank you David and everyone else involved!
Happy New Year to you David, your family, the Crossroads Team, and all fellow bloggers! May God’s richest Blessing be upon all!!!

  9. Amen! I really enjoyed the webcast last night and count it a great privilege to be part of 100 Huntley St. ministry. It is a great way to connect with us and trust we see more in 2015. You have ministered to me through my life and helped me through some difficult times. Happy New Year David, Norma-Jean and Family, 100 Huntley St. Team and Fellow Bloggers!

  10. To all my fellow bloggers.
May your new year be filled with inspiration, building of bridges and tearing down of walls. Blessing others, and gratitude for the eternal hope we have in Jesus Christ.

  11. David, I live on the West Coast not far from Vancouver, I logged in last night to watch your live webcast. Unfortunately, I never received it. There was a message that said it would automatically start at 8:00pm Eastern time. That would be 5:00pm my time, but it never did begin. Do you know anything about this?
